Make sure you heal him a few times before you start in case he cast bless on himself, it used to work fine so unless they changed it recently that should work.

I honored him as soon as he popped up before he even targetted me. The 'monster is too damaged' message didn't show either.

There is no message prior to attacking that indicates you successfully honored a mob, but if you did, the game messages let you know once you start attacking.

"You strike with precision blahblahblah"
"You have gained perfection blahblahblah"

Are you getting those messages? If so, you have it honored.

This may be dumb. But Don't you need Bushido? I Would imagine you have bushido if you were fightin him on a dexxer. But I think you need at least 50 Bushido to acquire perfection bonuses.

Was he human form or rat form? Maybe they changed it so he needs to be a rat to honor? Try forcing him rat form then healing and honoring?
