Raffle-How to make it secure UO world....

Looking to raffle off a decently large Item(s) and Im just trying to figure out HOW I can do it securely.

Any ideas? Or past experiences?

Only way I think I can make it "secure" is ask the person to give me like a pin # like a 4 digit number. and I secure it.

Have them buy runes.... Mark the runes using your house.... changing the name of your house each time you mark a new one.... giving them numbers and all.....

when you put them into a runebook it will tell you the co-ordinates so no one can "cheat" the system because they can't mark a rune for your exact co-ordinates with that name on it.... unless perhaps they go to another shard and transfer a rune over if they have a house on that exact spot but that is highly unlikely .....

Anyway that is my suggestion...

Post the winning numbers and then have them drop you the winning rune with a runebook with their name and rune to their house into a mailbox at your house..... then you recall to their house and drop the item in a mailbox on their house.

This of course assumes everyone has a mailbox and a house...... otherwise they can drop the winning rune in a runebook with their contact info in it.

What if they buy all the runes? lol, I want to make the gold price low enough that it gives a chance to younger or less fortunate (sounds terrible sorry) players a chance to buy....

Dont know. We will have to wait and see.

I'd have a raffle at a player event, such as an auction, with the winner having to be present.

Load 120 bags with 120 marked runes, all renamed, with only one of them going to the landmass where someone waits (and have the person with the item hide and log off there hours earlier). Say, for example, a remote, spawnless island in Tokuno or Trammel.

All the others will be to the same facet, say each a different square in a corral. Have the bags loaded into 2 pack horses.

Earlier, go to a provisioner, and buy as close as you can to 20 differently-titled NPC books that can't be edited, and write down the list of names.

Load all the books on the vendor as the purchase tickets for the event. Have those all sell (watching for people that are hogging the books - perhaps saying that buying more than 1 or 2 books per set disqualifies).

Take the books back from the buyers, noting down the player & book name, and handing them a random bag from a packie as part of the exchange. If a book shows up more than once, or one of the books that you DIDN'T load on it, you can check the journal to see whose purchase record does not match up (after all, if someone has more books than they bought, you can tell they are cheating). Prevent them from participating further, if possible (if they buy more books, refuse to take them)

After the first 20 books sold, put the books back on the vendor, and repeat, until you hit 100, 120, or whatever the total number of tickets.

Now, once all the bags are distributed, you tell the people to recall to their runes. If someone makes it to the right spot, they win.

Note that there are some locations where one could have all the losers see the winner arrive on their isolated spot, but that could cause an enterprising cheater to recall from a losing spot, then go to a rune library to recall to the winner's spot, hoping to beat the real winner. Whether that is an accceptible risk is up to you (if not, you could have the losers recalling to the empty right-side North Jhelom corral, and the winner recall to Dragon Island, one of the small unconnected islands in/around Vesper or Minoc, etc.

alternatively, you could use ship key copies (only one of them going to the winning boat, the others going to other boats, so that all keys would seem legit until the judge hidden on the winner reveals)

I've actually used this idea, It works well.

To answer your other question, Don't put the runes on a vendor. It'll be a pain in the ass but I handed them out myself. My raffle was free, but I guess you could make it so people can meet you at X location between x hour and x hour to buy the tickets.

It's the most secure way I could think of, Raffles before that sucked.

My other raffle idea i use is that I hand out a rune to each person and tell them at x time to recall off that rune. I go to the winning location and wait for whoever has the winning rune.

This seems too easy to duplicate the book once the winning number is announced. The Rune idea seems a lot more complicated to set up and manage - but sounds a lot more secure.

A very easy way of doing it is:

1. Create an Excel Document with two columns:

-Raffle #
-Passcode

2. Determine the amount of tickets being used for the raffle, and associate both a unique Raffle # and Passcode

3. Purchase NPC Books within game, assign the title of the book as the Raffle # and put the Passcode associate with the Raffle # within the book

4. Put on a vendor, and sell for however much you would like.


5. When the Raffle # is called, they should ICQ or meet you and confirm the passcode to ensure that it is the accurate ticket.


Simple, and effective. All you need is time to create the spreadsheet with unique passcodes (raffle #s can be an easy sequence) and labeling the books.


The rune idea is also just as effective, in my personal opinion.
