Advice for beating greater dragons?

I don't know why but GD's continually spank me..

I crafted a new weapon and died just as fast as when I was using a non custom weap. A little dissappointing

My char is unfinished so there are a couple holes but so far I have managed to solo balron/collectors of soul, miasma, fire demons, and other "lower rung" type hard creatures.

I crafted a new 60 cold/40 energy double axe, imbued with 30 ssi, 38 di, 55 hml, 44 hsl, and reptile slayer. GD ate me for breakfast twice.

The fireball and melee attack just does so damn much damage my bandaging and leeching can't keep up. Combined with the mana vamp and para, it leaves me missing vital swings I need to stay alive.

Another time the thing blessed itself so I couldn't honor. So I came at it again with EOO and tried to honor and although I was 2 tiles from it I got the dumb "you cannot see your target" type error and missed honor again, cause then it moved near me and i swung at it. ugh

My vitals are 120 sword, 108 (training) bush, 105 effective tac, 100 anat, 100 heal, 71 chiv, 99 necro. phys is 70, fire is a little low at 60, cold is 70, poison is like 56, energy is 70 or 68. the only one which seems like it might be a problem is missing full fire resist. have 133 or 136 hp, swing double axe at cap.

but whats really killing me are the mana vamps and the para's. plus they deal damage so quickly i just can't leech it back.

i don't really want to craft a dragon slayer for 300% specifically for GDs. i don't see any need for this weapon. i would rather have a reptile so i can attack all things with it. maybe down the line i'll reimbue it and turn it into a dragon slayer.

thanks

Definitely fix your fire resist. That will make a huge difference.

Greater Drags have pretty good energy resist, even with your axe having some cold damage I'd still consecrate before running in.

Are you using mace and shield glasses since there isn't HLD on your weapon? Shouldn't miss as much as you're hinting at below. Also what is your hit chance? Should be 45 so you can still hit even after you get mana vamped and can't lightning strike.

They're slightly tougher than Ancient Wyrms.

Try a daisho.

I'm planning on changing over to M&S glasses though I cannot yet as I need the 20 str and 15 hci from the spirit of totem until I can redo my suit. Same with the fire, I've replaced every piece I can without redoing the entire suit, which will take me a lot of time... still haven't even settled on the suit build yet.

I'm having trouble fitting everything I need on the suit. Classic case of not enough imbued items. I have the 30 ssi weap, the 5ssi ring, the 5ssi cloak, and tinker legs. I think if I drop the tinker legs it will free me from this issue, but it will mean I can't use my ornate at cap. And the tinker legs have such high utility I really hate to drop them. But I might need to just to finish the suit.

I do have 45 dci, and my hci is pretty high, either 40 or 45. When I get para'd it doesn't start auto attackign when I am unpara'd. So I have to dbl click again - this also may partly be interface issues I'm not used to. Although I also noticed myself whiffing due to the difference between 120 swords and GD's potential 145 wrestle.

I can make a dragon slayer daisho, I would see the need for that as I would want one for rikky, wyvern, or stygian.

I can also dash in again with eoo, pre consecrate, and feint up. And hopefully I don't get dumb line of sight issues on the honor like last several times

If you're using Classic Client, make your UOA macro to pop the box and check the box to pass the macro on to the client.

Make another macro in your client macros for attack last as the same key. That will pop your box and attack the previous target.

I had the same issue a few months ago. GD's just ate my lunch! I made a daisho, got my resists up, and.... still got creamed about 50% of the time.

Then I tried archery and it made a huge difference. It's ridiculously easier with archery. But I'm not thrilled with that solution, so if you find a breakthrough I would love to hear about it.

The daisho and feint really helped though, so definitely get one if you can. I just wish there were another weapon with feint that hit harder.

GD's spank everybody. :gee:

Even with all-70's, Consecrate Weapon, EoO, etc. I still have to joust these guys. You just have to be ready to run when you take one of those big hits.

I rarely miss when hitting them, but even with HLD and HLA, those nasty 50+ damage hits sneak through.

Hm, probably also has something to do with... none of you use Spirit Speak, do you?

Add me to the "you may have to do a little jousting" suggesters. Last time I took one it was using fencing and a leafblade with only HML, HSL, and DI. Even with 70 fire resist I couldn't stand toe to toe to start - but only had 114 HPs.

I would change Bushido for Ninjitsu and use Mirror Images with a Dragon Slayer. I'd also change Healing for something more useful.

what would be more usefull than healing?
On that temp he posted, he mentioned specifically being Mana Vamp'd and Parra'd, so Resist. Bandages will be blocked by Bleed/Poison and halfed in effectivness by melee and breath attacks.

my eventual spirit speak template (which is dependant on me finishing the item template to switch to) will end up having 2 swappable skills. ill have anat, or resist. and then ss, or healing. prolly just stick with ss fulltime

my acct is a year old (705 skill pts) now so eventual template will be

120 sword/bushy
105 tac (+15 on ssi ring)
100 anat or resist (swap)
120 nec (+5 on bracelet)
70 chiv
90 ss

goin 120 nec for unfizzleable revenants. i can change it later if desired

I use a Dragon Slayer Bladed Staff with 30 SS, ML, SL and DI, just joust them, and use the AI continually. Once they are about half life it is no problem to stand and kill em.

If they get the first hit, it can hurt, but back off and heal, then go back in.

Greaters are not bad at all, try a Paragon Greater some time, thay can be difficult. (Insta kill ya, with a bite and Breath, together. :( )

I went to Destard and fought one. Honored myself so I wouldn't get ganked by 30 dragons, Honored the GD, EoO, Consecrate, Evasion and the whacked at it with my Ornate (HML, HSL, HLA, SSI, DI). Pretty easy. Took 2 Evasion casts to drop it. Didn't die once. I'm not sure how to help you out cause I really didn't find it to be hard :(.
