7 years of waiting for nothing...

EA customer service strikes again!!!

I waited over 7 years for space around a house to become available.

Cleared the house.

Paged a GM. Waited almost 45 minutes.

Now the GM tells me he won't remove the hide hanging in midair? This hide wouldn't be there in the first place if the code were properly written.

This is what I've been paying for??

I am now angry enough to cancel multiple accounts.

Page again. GM's do remove items blocking house placement. Try rewording your paging request to make it very clear what the problem is, ie. "There is an object from a previous house blocking me from placing another house. Could someone please remove it."

Page again. Ive had GMs remove items that were blocking placement multiple times in my UO history. RNG determines dumb GM or smart GM. Guess which way the RNG is weighted?

When I had the problem several years ago, they would move an item not necessaryly remove it. (But enough away to place the wished house..)

do it on notepad, then copy the request into the form

when you get the reply, copy that onto the notepad

keep a record of the responses, and when this is all done, sent the whole thing to GM review

the least they could do is take a hike out and have a look at what someone is talking about.... they'd be able to see right away that it's not a rock or tree

sheeeesh

I will try that, but I can't get text to post from Notepad to the GM request. It just aborts the help request.

I am paging again. Stay tuned for further bulletins

Paged again, waited almost 2 hours...

"GMs are not available to assist in this matter."

This is the kind of customer service that I have come to expect from the banking and insurance industries.

The worse part is....Did they mean they wouldn't help in that matter, ever?

Or there's so few GMs on at the moment that they have some weird priority list which for some reason this doesn't fit? And if this wouldn't meet the priority list, what would, I wonder? I don't think it's cheating or use of racial slurs, both of which tend to get ignored.

you should have received an email on your GM help request after you have gotten the canned message.

The email should have your page message with GM name and the GM's response.

Copy and past that for GM review.

It once took me 2 months of paging every few days to finally get a GM to come remove a statue so I could enlarge a friends house.

You just have to keep trying.

As I recall my character emoted getting down on his knees and thanking the god for taking that infernal statue away.

Yep, there are still some UO GM's that know what they are doing. But it may take you a number of tries to find one that does. In the meantime fill out the GM review form on the UO website and let them know how pissed off you are about the "service"...

Done this NUMEROUS times on problems I have had with GM's Not doing something or Not knowing game mechanics that can only be fixed by a GM & have in the past & Nothing gets done, believe me. You get the same "We'll Check into it ..." BS
And I still have the GM Review emails to prove it

Its all on the wording. I have had gms come and remove stews left over from couldrons, stretched hides, statues, broken deeded decor items. I admit it sometimes takes a couple paging attempts but there are key words you should never use like "house, or "placement". I usually add at the end of my paging message "I cannot continue on my gameplay untill this issue is addresed" I hope everything works out for you and the damn GM's help you out.

I ran into something similar once, not with a leftover object but where part of the original foundation ( I was re-sizing ) prevented me from placing. I paged a gm, and was waiting when I suddenly lost connection. When I logged back in, the foundation was gone and I could place. In a few cases could relogging clear some of these? Just a suggestion for a very frustrating issue...

How's that any help to someone who's first language isn't English? Or for that matter, someone it is, but doesn't necessarily have the written ability to present their case as clearly? Are the foreign or those with less than exemplary grammar skills, any less worthy of attention, as other paying clients?

In a laughable sort of way, it reminds me of the old text adventures, with the return response of "Syntax Error". Even better, for anyone that played the first Discworld graphic adventure game, Eric Idle voicing Rincewind repeating "That doesn't work...".

And god how that single statement became very frustrating the more you heard it throughout the game...

But now you've got me wondering if I've still got my disc around somewhere!!!

Not to mention some of the more interesting combination of inventory items to solve certain puzzles. :)

If you don't find the disc however, I believe the game is now considered abandonware/freeware, is available for download and works fine with DosBox.

I know one of the lead developers well, that worked on Discworld and Discworld II with Psygnosis. I still have a selection of goodies from each release. Damn, they made some good games.

Yeah, I have to admit, it was Discworld I that actually got me into reading the Pratchett novels (which sadly I didn't know existed prior to that). Of course, this was... oh... a decade and a half ago, round about.

There's just something awesome about a fantasy game that is based on a fantasy world that has a hysterical sense of humor -- and really, what's wrong with a disc that rests on the back of four elephants that are on the back of a turtle floating through space?

Ooh... which reminds me. I still haven't read The Fifth Elephant.

Could I get a PM on this please for shard and location if this has not been resolved?

Apologies for the delay. We have a little something we are putting together for Saturday.

I have paged several times in the past for this issue; They will not some and do it while you wait, but often it will get done in a day or so. I would email the locations to customer Support

Yeah Thunder, that's what happened when I placed that castle.
A lot, i mean a LOT of items ended up under the sign, locked down, and even scattered a bit over several tiles out, all locked down, and couldnt be removed. Standing on the steps, I couldnt unlock it, said "That is not in your house" or some such. Standing enxt to it, said "I wasn't in the house" or somethign to that effect.

I paged, got the usual answer about replacing lost items.
Paged again, Got some malarky about GMs can't do landscape and world building matters, or something like that.
Paged again, reminding them this had been done for me once before, with some stew that was stuck on the ground...why does stew block placement anyway? LOL
Finallythe GM review thingy popped up, and I sent em a note telling them of my opinion on the matter.

Logged out, and left.
Came home, checking email, had one from them letting me know they were sorry for the delay and misunderstanding, and that my yard was nicely cleaned up :)
And it was...

You know, you could easily fix most of the GM problems by requiring them to appear @ the player's location when a page is sent so the player can explain the problem in a little more detail.
Yeah, it would push the que back a bit, but hell I'd rather wait some extra time and get it fixed the first time than have to go through all this luck of the draw, trying to word it better in 200 characters or 'keep paging for a few days in a row' etc.

Unless you have no control or say in the GMs policies or actions. If that's the case then players and devs together are screwed.

Another problem with GM support that I have notice is that you sometime get GM support response email wayyyyy before you actually received the response in game (2-4 hours in time difference!).

This seems to happen a lot when its a canned response. What is the cause of this?

1. GM padding their response time?
2. the ingame support response is not in sync with email response?
3. God only knows?

I have paged a GM 2 or 3 times over seperate itmems blocking seperate house placements and I always got the response "A GM cannot assist in the matter", but when I look 30 seconds after I get the response the item is gone.

Personally I think a lot of the GM's are forced to give the canned responses because EA doesn't want GM's to think out of the box. That would lead to each GM having a different response to simular situations.

Everynow and then you get a GM that gives the canned response, but goes the extra mile to make your request happen if it is an obvious situation.
