Producers Update - About Siege...

So with all the other features and bugs in UO, why did we decided to remove the daily stat cap for Siege?

The simple answer: Why not? Over a month ago I visited Seige to discuss a few topics, not the least of which was their population, and what they thought would drive more visitors to the shard. I made no promises, but asked them to identify a few easy fixes we could implement in one of the development cycles we have for this summer.

So, we did it. Will we implement other requests from their list? Perhaps. We will see how this update goes first before moving forward.
Meh, my first reaction was it feels like the issue is being brushed under the carpet.

This just makes me feel that Siege is the child in the back of the classroom with no friends, with the Teacher occasionally acknowledging our existence...

Was going to add this to the other busy thread but thats just a bit of a angry mess.

Went to the link you posted and read they are condsidering the development of a classic shard, with a decision whether or not to go forward by the end of the year. That could possibly effect Siege's population more than any other change they could implement here.

To be honest, I doubt the Classic Shard would ever be made. And even if it does get the go ahead at the end of the year, its a long way off release.

I think it's pretty clear we aren't getting any more changes anytime soon. They want time to evalute the RoT gains cap deletion? Give me a break what is there to evaluate? Notice there's not time frame for said evaluation...

We'll see how this update goes??? Whats there to see? At the meeting with him in Luna, he said Siege would get some development attention after July, when they finished the cycle they were working on at the time. This guy sounds like he is backing off that statement and trying to "justify" giving Siege what little dev time we recently received.

I have never been more disappointed and disgusted. :bs:

Am I the only one who didn't see the ROT changes as a shining light that we were gonna get attention from the devs? Please, someone tell me I'm not...

Hmmm... I have been seeing alot of new and old faces showing up lately.

This will make it easier for the new to siege to come, an easier on the old ones to return.

This is far better than nothing being done, IMO.

Time shall tell.

I felt the same way five years ago. I had faith the devs would help Siege, but this is status quo. They toss Siege a little tiny bone every couple of years and do nothing to address the bigger problems and thats why most players give up and leave. Its all about prodo you should expect nothing more than a bone for Siege every couple of years and you will have to BEG for that.

It used to irk the hell out of me when Castor, who was a vet when I first got here, had such a negative attitude in regard to the devs and toward our hope they would ever put in some serious time toward Siege. Castor finally threw in the towel and quit 3+ years ago. Today, I fully understand his frustration and headed down the same path. :(

Personnally I am new to Siege. I have been here maybe one month working skills mostly until the cap removal which made it alot easier. The only thing I see wrong with Siege myself is the fact that people leave because there is no PvP. However, there are some pvpers still here who stay in hopes of getting more to come. If those of you who are unhappy with the way things are stayed or came back perhaps the Devs will have no choice but to pay some attn if more voices are heard.

The more that leave the less likely more will come. I hate quitting it has never solved anything. Only by staying and showing that we are in fact active will more come. I know I have no place to talk as a newcommer but Lets face it. If you want something done in any given situation You have to help by doing it yourself. So Come back Guys Let's show the Devs We Mean Business!!! Long Live Siege !! *hides and waits for the raining tomatoes*

I would guess that the recent increase in population is more due to Shalimar dropping books on prodo shards than the changes to ROT.

Although it is good on her part. i HIGHTLY doubt her dropping books has caused the boost to the population.

While it's nice to see the producer helpin us out. I think if they were really interested in seeing how things went before moving forward why not implement something different to the game. I was thinking after reading this, why not institute a new way of detecting 3rd party programs to siege. Make getting caught have consequences, serve consequences. No 3 day suspension, I did like someones idea of having a cheater turn a certain color. On siege this would be great, only one character per account, less ways around hiding it. And erase 200 skill points from the character caught the first time. Than more serve each time. After the 2 or 3rd time erase the character. You aren't losing any subscriptions, and you are promoting fair game play. I believe this is what most players what, and I think it would drive a lot of people to this shard.

Some are here because they saw books on their other shards John, I know this because they told me. Others are here because of word of mouth from those who came because of seeing books and have had a good experience (friends they play with on other shards) and others have been appearing just because it's time for them to try Siege.

I don't know whether the RoT news has filtered through at this stage, it's early days, but I stopped dropping books a week ago, and won't be doing it again until the RoT change has become known and hopefully books won't be necessary anymore...we'll see.

Would be nice if the Devs had actually officially announced the change on the Herald, together with a few sentences on what Siege is. You know, a bit of promotion. Perhaps they can schedule some Dev time for that early in the New Year. *sighs*

Yeh, I agree with Hoffs. Would have been nice to get a little coverage of it. I remember at the time of the Publish going live nothing really was said.

I go back to my child at the back of the classroom example.

It would have been nice for the Dev's, mainly Cal as he visited, to have put a few words on the front page of UO.com to announce it. I'm sure they could have fitted that into the dev cycle :p

That would definitely have an effect on Siege's population... by killing it lol.

I have a question about the cap removal, did they just remove the skill cap, or has the stat cap been removed too?

Disclaimer: I am not in any way trying to justify the devs lack of action...

One of the items on our list of things to change was addressed, indirectly.
We wanted a blackrock area for increased skill gain, they implemented Treasure Hunting with dropping LOTS of Alacrity's. Sure, you may not have all your victims nicely bunched together in one place for the kills, but the increased gains are in place. You can find victims all over the map now, hunting treasures! ( let them open the chest before you kill them )

They have been working to make more and more items stackable, which indirectly addresses the bank box / lockdown / storage space issues.

Lets set up another meeting with them and demand more dev time, as was promised... but keeping in mind that we probably aren't going to get everything we ask for, as they have been addressed indirectly.

We wanted increased skill gain? We got unlimited skill gain! How is everyone upset with the changes??
