Hello all! I just wonder how long players will have to dig through thousand ingame vendors to find what they need?

MAKE A VENDOR BOARDS AT BANKS THAT ARE CONNECTED TO ALL VENDORS ON SHARD SO YOU CAN REMOTELY CHECK WHERE THE ITEMS ARE AND REMOTELY BUY IT

or just make the auction house like in WoW so people can put items in there and other players can place a bet or just buy it now

PLEASE RATE THIS THREAD
(you can set rating above the topic name, theres stars for it..). dont just view and close it.

Re: UO Auction House (as in World of Warcraft)

I like the UO system, as it exists now.

We have auction houses, which are more social than the WoW implementation, though the item you want may not be available on a particular evening. These establishments in UO do put you in contact with people that enjoy playing UO as a merchant. Failing that, you can always go to the bank or try global chat to find a player with the desired item.

I feel the script vendor-index websites ruin a lot of good vendor practices. A dedicated player that organizes their vendor well, clearly and logically arranges the items for sale should be rewarded with sales. Sales should be regardless of location as long as the player is willing to Gate and advertise. Well organized vendors outside Luna used to be much more prevalent. Luna vendors tend to be a disorganized mess with a jumble of overpriced mid to high end items.

Imbuing brings back an element of hanging out at the town forge and chatting with smiths from UO's early days. If you want to find skilled imbuers, hang out at the Queen's forge in the Royal City. I wish there was a nearby bank, moongate, or other establishment that would encourage people to visit the Queen's forge other than when they want the 3% boost to imbue chance. Perhaps the game designers could add a treasury that functions as a bank and maybe a stable master.

UO is much more than an Online game that lots of people happen to play individually at the same time, the social interactions are definitely one of the game's strengths.

Player run auctions are far superior.

If you're stuck searching through vendors, simply interact with other players and ask for their recommendations. You'll be surprised how many great vendors there are outside Luna, on most if not all shards.

The only change or addition I've ever advocated, is some form of market stall system, based in not just one, but all towns. There could be a different "Market Day" every day for each of the towns.

Players would have to man their stalls themselves and stock items in a viewable container of some description. Only the vendor would be able to take items from the display container, which they could then pass to buyers through the trade window options, to complete a sale.

Market days would indeed be a great way to buy and sell, whilst also further encouraging social interaction between players.

I'm not in favor of an auction house style of merchanting but I would like to see the devs mimic what some of the search sites are doing.

My 1st thought for the easiest solution would be their own website offering the same functionality... but linked to all vendors.

But what I would really like to see is a billboard at the banks that allowed for a key word search and possibly a recall button to the shop you wish to by from... similar to runebooks. Perhaps even give the shop owner the option to charge the board with recall scrolls for his shop that anyone who wished to go there could use.

Re: UO Auction House (as in World of Warcraft)

as i can see you are just looking on same idea from different view.. probably you forgot or never knew how hard it was to find certain item when there was no search sites and no chat ;) lets image that you need to buy some garbage like burglar bandana(may be bad example but you know what im about).. so you start spamming for hours trying to find a seller then message your 50 friends in icq asking them if they seen burglar bandana on some vendor(like they remember lol). and some people will need to do it multiple times per day and annoy other players... theres much more fun things to do in uo than to sit and spam trying to find what you need.. we all need the ability to buy what we need in same place and only EA has the access to ALL vendors database..

i like the idea with board but instead of charging it with recalls they could just add feature to remotely buy from vendors. like they place auction board at bank, you type a keyword there, system checks if item is available on any of the vendors on shard then you can buy it..

so if someone likes to dig through hundreds of vendors they can still continue to run around and do it and the people who dont have time for this can just use auction board..

i think this is much easier to implement than making auction house that will hold all the stuff

I wouldn't want the game to become even more like looking at a screen full of numbers.
As a buyer and an occasional vendor, the thought of people buying from me remotely rather than coming to my little hut in the woods, would discourage me from keeping a shop.

Let's try and keep those little slivers of immersion that are left in the game.

On my shard rune drops and word of mouth kept my little shop in the woods very busy.

Lady W@R rode through the forest on her faithful donkey ResOrGatePlease. A great weariness had overcome her and she longed for the comfort of an inn. The day's stealing and snooping around had gone badly for her and she had been run out of Yew by an angry mob of monks. If only she had a burglar's bandana she would have stolen that set of dried herbs the monks so jealously guarded!

The trail through the forest dallied and wound on endlessly. A pine nut cracked. From the trees strange monkey-like eyes glared at Lady W@R in her tattered pink dress. The sun was going down over the server line and this forest was no place to be in the dark.

Suddenly up ahead she saw a small column of smoke rising up above the trees. The trees parted almost graciously to let Lady W@R enter into a beautiful glade where a chimney happily smoked on the roof of a small hut.
On the steps of the hut a man who identified himself as Idoc Loot asked Lady W@R if she needed any supplies. Imagine the lady's surprise when the bandana she so desired was offered at what she considered to be a steal.

A smile broke out on Lady W@R's butt-ugly face. "Vendor Buy" she softly whispered and then vanished into the forest, back towards Yew.

I have never used one of those sites, and rarely shop around Luna. There are a few shops that provide almost all I would need.
What I would really like to see is an auction site where players can put up items for sale in game gold, something like a game gold ebay.

why do you want the site when you can have it ingame ? it also eliminates the chances that seller is not fair and sells item before auction ends. there is such site by the way but it its dead since vendor search sites appeared..

DAoC Market Explorer.... Or something very similar.

UO devs even have access to the code (not that it will likely be applicable within UO, but it could give them some strong ideas).

Well, I guess I am in the minority, on this board at least.

I do get tired to looking through 100 empty vendors bags in Luna. I don't like the thought of getting price ****d on nearly every item.

There are few out of town vendors left on my shard. And those that still run tend to have a lot of empty bags as well.

Yard sale runes dropped in Luna have brought me the most interesting deals lately and yes that can be fun.

But I think a lot of the inflated pricing would find the great leveler with this.

Keep the vendors but have an in game vendor search. Better pricing and a better shake for vendors not in Luna. Luna can be the convenience store, with the deals out in the country side.

A modern MMO without an auction house or something similar is just sad. Sadder is the people who think convenience is something UO doesn't need. So many people wonder why UO keeps losing subs. It's because it's not keeping up with the time and auction houses or similar systems are what's current.

I agree with the idea of an auction house. I DONT LIKE LOOKING THROUGH MT BAGS!!!! and i do use the other online sites to find certain thing from time to time.. But for the most part they will send you back to Luna and the MT BAGS and the over priced stuff. So I think with and auction house type system it would allow the little guy out in the middle of the woods that just happened to have that "burglars Bandanna" to advertise it and sell it?? I mean come on?? that does make since!!!!! :gee:

Years ago you knew where to find a good vendor.

Why? Because you had runes to all the best vendors.

Luna and the Search sites RUINED that.

Now no one can compete with the search sites and all that "convenience" that they provide and the normal vendor outside of Luna dies out quickly. Certainly there are a few great vendors outside of Luna... but because of the search sites most people will never know. Instead of shopping for bargains like we all used to do... now we shop the lazy way... and search it out using a search site.

But the main problem with search sites is this... there could be a super hot new item... but you would never know if you only shop by search. You miss the opportunity to actually explore and find those things maybe you weren't exactly looking for but you always secretly wanted. You also miss out on really good bargains that you might not otherwise know about. And finally... Search sites have taken away the average players ability to sell stuff.

I have NEVER had a vendor that I stocked on any regular basis. First off I HATE Luna and think it destroyed the fun of roaming the countryside in search of a bargain. And secondly it has lead to one of the most disgusting things I can think of... Greed. Everyone now wants a Luna house... Why? NO not for the community... no so they can line their bankboxes with gold the lazy way.

Honestly... I wish that Luna had never been created. If there was anything I miss about the Pre-AoS era... it was good vendors and the search for the best deals.

Luna never has the best deals... and it never will. The players who stock the vendors there know that people will pay outlandish prices for the convenience of shopping in Luna because they take advantage of search sites which in my opinion is an exploit.

You want to talk unfair advantage? Well because of search sites people who have vendors in Luna have an unfair advantage over the rest of the players in UO. And if UO provided the same service... only better... those in Luna would be forced to either use competitive pricing... or they will quickly lose business. But I hate the idea of UO going to that... so what does it take? Destroying the vendor experience for the convenience of finding what you want and stopping the exploitation of the rest of the players, or leaving things as they are and allowing the exploitation to continue?

In-game auction board at each bank:

  • To sell an item
    • Double click the board and target an item you wish to auction
    • Select the time - in days - that you would like the item to be listed for
    • Select a reserve price (0 = no reserve)
    • Provide a description (URLs that are included are automatically disallowed)
    • No buy it nows: this is what vendors are for!
  • To buy an item
    • View recent items: shows the last added entries
    • View item by category: shows items in different sections (item is automatically entered into a section)
    • Select the item to view it and to see it's properties
    • Click "Bid" to bid on the item
    • Bids are automatically taken from your account and placed into a temporary "holding" until the auction ends (to ensure a sale)
    • When the item is sold, the winner automatically receives a cheque for the item's value in their account, minus a 1% fee
  • The amount of items you can sell is a base minimum of 5, plus 1 bonus item slot for every (10 items + bonus total) that you sell. Example, selling 10 items gives you 6 slots, but to get 7 you must sell another 11 items, to get 8 you must sell another 12 and so on

I think it could work :D

On the one hand it allows anyone to sell anything and compete with other people, regardless of where their shop is located, but on the other hand it means that you may as well just have a 7*7 dirt plot in some forgotten part of Felucca with default clothed and named vendors. A lot of character would be lost from UO as part of being able to sell goods is about having a decent looking shop in a location that you know people will visit.

Sadly there are many people in UO today who didn't experience UO before Luna and won't appreciate houses that were right by dungeons or along roads in Trammel.

I think certain un-named sites have hurt UO in many ways; the idea that looking outside of Luna will now find you good deals is untrue, as I am sure people have noticed a downturn in sales in the last few years and so shops will close, vendors will raise prices to stop being bought up etc.

This would totally kill vendor shopping. The only people who will explore outside of towns would be IDOC hunters.

A central search - like some websites offer - would be nice. Especially if it was shard wide and not only luna.

But auction houses or the ability to remotely buy something would totally destroy the player vendor business. A central search would be a fine compromise.

It's not that I like the idea infact I hate it. However with the certain unnamed search sites constantly providing data on Luna vendors other people end up losing out on things. And in my opinion those search sites are like an exploit for Luna vendors giving them clear unfair advantage over the rest of the playerbase.

THAT was my point...

So either EA/UO Devs FIX the problem by clipping the ability of these sites to offer the search... OR they provide their own search feature putting them out of business.

I greatly support the idea of a central search feature. There are new vendor malls that spring up that I never find out about until they've been long gone. Spamming runes at Luna and WBB only reaches so many people, and it always seems like the item that I want, I saw at someone's house six months ago, but no idea where. I like the idea of being able to search for an item, finding the location of or rune to a place that has it, then discovering that place ends up becoming a favorite of mine, all because I happened to find that they had what I wanted for sale.

I don't think the purchasing decision should happen anywhere other than at the player house. Forcing people to travel helps people discover new places, new favorites, supports player run communities, and... well... keeps us different than everyone else out there.

This bard's two gold, anyway.

Yeah, this would be an awesome idea.

- Make it so the owner of the house can go to the "Market Board" and bind their house to it for a price, the "Market Board" system will then index all the vendors at their house (if pubilc) and keep track of their content in real time. This will mean an additional fee on sales though (5%?) like an extra vendor fee, just to gold sink a little.

- When a user uses the "Market Board", they can see the vendors name and can recall/gate/sj to the house.

- Possibly as an added veteran reward, gold sink or uogamecode item, the devs could add a mobile "Market Board", that you can take with you. This should however be expensive.

IMHO anyone against a shard wide vendor system is just a happy fat cat price gouging in Luna.

People who can't afford a vendor spot in the high traffic areas get screwed, and that sucks.

Shopping in UO fundamentally changed with Age of Shadows. Prior to that expansion, there were only 5 levels of weapons and armor. It was easy to quickly find the quality you wanted.

Today there is an infinite amount of weapons/armor and the only way to find them is to click on every single item.

I think a very "UO" solution would not be to create a global search system. Instead you could ask (by which I mean setup search options) the vendor if they had that item or better. If the vendor does, a bag would be displayed with all the items that fit your criteria.

A system like this would maintain the uniqueness of UO's system but also make shopping a lot more convenient and much faster. The system could even be expanded so you can specify many different items you are looking for, which would be better than current search sites where you go one by one.

*Added*

I had another idea. Vendor owners could pay gold to promote their vendor goods through a central bulletin board system. So a player can go up to a board in Britain and read the listings. I would not include searching on these boards though, as that would require every vendor owner to advertise their items in order to get them sold. Maybe limit the listings to 2 items per character, so the board does not get spammed.

It is easy to make a rune book of your favorite vendors and most vendors can be contacted in one way or another to place secial orders.

You can still do that with a search system in place...you're doing it now despite search engines already existing in the game.

Quit holding the game back and ruining it by old backwards thinking. UO must move forward, not backwards.

Well if thye ever decide to implement the search me and the others are ready to buy out every single shop that sells things below value to resell. Unless they are dupers they don't have a chance.
