Online auctions

Has Stratics considered running an online auction for goods in UO?
UO Actions are sadly missed, and although there is another auction site it's rarely used since people don't know about it. Stratics would be a great umbrella for such a site, if there were anybody on staff able to set it up.

Auctions arent really needed anymore. People just buy cheap gold. Auctions were great in ebay day cause you could get value. Things were harder to get. Gold was undercontrol etc.

Now .50 per million and go to luna.

I being one of the mods for one of the trade forums here on Stratics would not be in favor of doing auctions simply because auction lead to people claiming person A didn't pay when they won or that person B did not decide the sell the item that was in the auction simply because the bids didn't get high enough. I would not want to baby sit those forums trying to decide who was right.

I think the trade forums work well on here as it is!!!!! and they are shard exclusive so its pretty easy to buy sell items..

Has for gold prices.. its true gold is kinda worthless now hence the high prices in gold u will see for the more exclusive items...pretty silly really.... but it real terms something selling for 100millo gold is probably $40 real terms for someone that aint got the game time /skill to make gold in game.

Thanks for thinking about it. I hadn't considered all the issues of multiple accounts, and trading and board relationships leaking. The trading forums work well for big ticket items, but the auctions were better for commodities, and more humdrum stuff.

Im not buying gold. Never did. Just saying its cheap. So cheap auctions are pretty much useless.

UO Auction let you auction your ITEMS from UO for UO Gold.

You would then meet in game to trade.

It was useful for selling rares and other items that people wanted especially before the vendor search sites.

You could put up say a PvP Warfork and people would bid UO gold on it. Highest bidder would contact you by ICQ and you'd complete the trade.

It was EXTREMELY useful back in the day but as the game has dwindled, so have the # of auctions. Auction sites only work well with lots of users. If you post an item for bid and there are few people there - it sells for a cheap price and it discourages you from putting things up for sale.

It is unfortuneate because it was a really nice place to sell valuable items without large vendor fees and you could search for items.

I have done a few online auctions on Siege. Here is how I do it. I make a list of what I have to auction off. I do this in Word since I can then copy and paste to the board.

I hold an auction for the guild and alliance for which I am in first. Tell people there will be an auction and where the items can be seen. An empty house works best for this. Things are locked down either on the floor or in bags set for anyone to see but not grab. Then I set a date for the auction to run like from the First of the month to a week later ending at 9pm eastern. I try to get it over a weekend so more people can get bids in. All this is done online. I then at the end of the auction tally what each person has bid on and won. I use a table since I dont know how to use a spread sheet.

I then post online the winners and the amount they owe. Each person has a small chest with their names on it and items they have won. Also a book listing the items. The chests are not put on a vendor. They contact me and we go to the house where I access them to the house. They pay me and I give them the chest which I open in the trade window. If they cannot gate out to a safe place I have one of my other chars to gate them to a safe place of their chioce. I have run acutions for guild alliance and also shard wide auctions and people seem to like the way they are run.

It just takes planning and a bit of work but for me it works well.

The problem I found with that is the items were rarely starting at ZERO UO gold. No real bidding. More like a store. But a good majority of people priced the starting price with LUNA prices. There really wasnt much bidding.

There was a reason it went up in flames, (uo-auction). There is an extreme amount of temptation, I myself would not want to take it on.
