"Sampires" have been around for time... Mad that there hasn't been a more popular plate since 2007 for warriors....

Yep, but my "Sampire" then is my ABC archer now.

And I'd probably kick myself for some of the advices I gave back then too... I hadn't been playing long before I started shelling out bad advice which was somehow effective.

And the sampire is exactly as old as the bushido skill, I'd suspect.

Popular opinion with "regular" players who don't delve into the mechanics is that "sampires aren't too good any more since the nerf"..

LOL, so true.

Or my favorite is that everyone and their mother has access to a sampire now (with imbuing radically reducing the prices) and still pancake and moan about how crazy over powered they are...

What a lot of people don't understand is, it takes a bit of time learning the sampire. When to run, heal, stand your ground. All the different templates and weapons and places to stand against different bosses. lots of knowledge that goes into playing an "effective" sampire.

i dunno about that dude...have you read Thunderz post "0 to Sampire in three days"? Killed his first few dreads within 3 days of starting his sampire! not sure if he used an advanced token or whatever, but a lot of it is just standing your ground, and hitting like mad :p

I do agree there is more to it, but i guess he proves us wrong - what is needed is a working knowledge of the UO mechanics :)

Well, he's a bit insane. :p
He seems to be able to pursue a goal with abandon to a degree that's largely incomprehensible to me.
I get bored of monotony quickly, but he seems to be capable of doing Dread Horn or something similar 20 times in a row for 5 days straight.

Thinking of dreadhorn. What does it take? Honestly. LS, no need for resists. No summons, nothing else to attack you. No possible one hit killers. No need to listen to the sound themonster makes (thinks of Rikktor)

Like they say, he's the easiest one to do.

I saw this post on the live feed and knew straight away you where talking about me :D

Yeah a bit insane, if i want something or start something i dont stop till i get it or achieve it an i wanted that crimmy of dread hehe :D

Yeah i key'd dread on my sampire its pretty easy. There is so much information on these boards it was pretty easy to find all the info i needed before starting my sammy, i built the suite, popped a adv token and traind up on golem/sheep pens/horse.
I think having enough gold and experience playing the game for so long makes it prettty easy to jump straight into any template (in terms of PvM).

I took time off UO from 2002 until 2007. I remember saving a local copy of Baghdaddy's sampire post and bringing that with me when I deployed in early 2008. When I got back, the first thing I did in UO was start a sampire. Of course soon after that the necro skill change went in. I just adapted my template and gear and haven't looked back. I use my sampire for all my serious solo PvM. I have been playing my necro-mage more lately, but that has been for guild events. Anyway, that thread was epic in my opinion. It is what propelled many of us to jump on the sampire train in the 2007-08 timeframe.

Well put. Looking back, I think of some my first recommendations and it makes me laugh even if it did work back then. But I guess you always need some type of a starting point.

As far as the Sampire template goes, I credit Arjuna of LS (I think that was the name or something like that) for being an early advocate of it on stratics. When I first did my boss soloing, it was on a sammy/pally. It was reading Arjuna's posts that I saw the huge potential of being able to solo peerless bosses.

My sampire is retired and I only use him to gather imbuing ingreds these days.

To the OP, it is interesting to think that this template has endured over the years with so many different hybrid combinations out there.

ARJUNA!!!

I've looked for him in those old threads, can't find him.

I remember meeting him and us trying to do Para Succubus - he'd got there first out of the stratics crew (at the time) with vamp trick/chiv/dex healing. He was the one that inspired me too and who i count as the most vocal early leader...

Strange that it seemed so hard then with perma-evasion, no tactics requirement etc etc...
Mind you imbuing has massivly change the potential of a suit. I wouldn't even look at a jackals collar anymore.

We even got a char started together on LS...his house and arena is still there, sadly he doesn't seem to be....

I'm so glad somebody else remembers Arjuna :D
