Selling Slayers?

I got a vendor to sell my smithing rewards and was very pleased with all the cash I made (after spending quite some time adjusting prices). Anyhow, the only things that didn't sell were some radiant scimitars I crafted with DC hammers. I had extra slayers that I didn't need and thought someone might buy to save on imbuing mats (like white pearl). I dropped them down to 5k each and still no takers. Is this still too high? Are they just not sellable?
Sorry to put this here instead of UO Trader but this really seemed like the better place to ask this question.

Typically, the following things are needed.

1. The slayer has to have a current need, with little artifact competition.

For example, right now, the Ophidian slayer is a hot commodity, due to that event. Reponds, though they help you on the other side of the fight, do not, simply because they are too common (Soul Seeker, Night's Kiss, and Blackthorn's Kryss replicas)

Also popular are Dragon Slayers, as a good Dragon slayer eclipses most reptile slayers for actually fighting dragonkind. Navery has made Spider Slayers popular, and Occasionally, you might sell a scorpion slayer to someone who farms Miasma.

2. Any additional properties better fit well.

Most people won't want hit area effects, unless they are those that do the lower level of champ spawns (and those stack really nicely on radiants, with their whirlwind special). Most people, though, are looking for leeches (mana for Sampires, life for Whammies, are popular).

3. Some slayers will never sell well.

Essentially,

Elementals: forget about selling any of the elemental minor slayers (with the possible exception of earth ele slayers to a miner, and maybe a blood elemental slayer to someone who camps in Blood dungeon).

Repond: Orc slayers only sell during an orc invasion, and Ogre slayers have ebbed in popularity with the Spellweavers making the Arctic OL spawn unreliable from occasional failures of respawn after a Dryad Allure. Troll slayers have always been garbage, and the only skill without a good artifact Repond slayer is Mace Fighting.

Undead: Lots of artifacts do it, so typically only someone looking for a high-end custom weapon will want a crafted undead slayer.

Arachnid: See #1. not many people do Mephitis, or Terethan Keep, so the super slayer and Terethans don't sell well at the moment.

Reptile: Also, see #1. Snake slayers are only good for fishermen, Yamandon farmers (which aren't that common anymore) and people who like doing the Sleeping Dragon spawn (for the boss). General reptile slayers aren't that popular, except for spawning.

Demon: demon slayers sell okay, but since Gargoyle slayers don't work in PvP, and few actually kill what gargoyles are in game, they are a waste.

Thank you Basara, as usual, great info here. I had ophidian, terathan, lizardman, and air ele slayers that, obviously, didn't move. I also have a dragon and blood ele slayer that didn't sell. I did think they were worth more so I wouldn't sell them for less than 10k. They both were exceptional, so 40 DI. The dragon slayer didn't have any other properties, the blood ele did, but it was mana leech (35) so I thought it was pretty nice. Anyhow, should I price those lower? I thought 10k was a good price, I would easily have paid that much if I didn't have.

I buy slayers that I find either without any DI (non-exceptional), or with 100% elemental damage (such as fire). Other than that, most slayers I make or find have other properties that just aren't good for imbuing.

You might want to try imbuing a few

Though the problem is that players all have different types of suits

Some players will make a suit where DI is on it so they can free up a slot on their weapon. Thus if you craft an exceptional slayer, you are wasting a weapon slot, and they won't want it. On the other hand if you craft a nonexceptional one, people who needed DI might thumb their nose at it. Me, my suit when I am finished will have 20 SSI on it so I will not need SSI on fast weaps like Daisho or radiant scimmy!

I am surprised the ophidian slayers don't sell, they are all over my shard. It's other stuff I have trouble finding. I still don't have a repond slayer book after a year of playing sonoma! LOL

Unrelated question: Is demon slayer a SUPER slayer, or a regular slayer? I've never seen a 'succubus slayer', or a 'balrog slayer'...

It's a super slayer... check the imbuing gump. Gargoyle slayer is a subcategory of the demon slayer.

Daemon slayer (which was a demon slayer in all but name) used to spawn as a minor, despite being functionally identical. But, the devs fixed that about 6 years ago by rearranging the slayer spawn tables (besides the Daemon spawning as a minor, blood elemental ad poison elemental slayers were spawning only as part of the super slayer table, which was silly), and converting the existing Daemon slayers all to Demon slayers.
