Plain dyed?

Reading the 'refrigerator' thread I began wondering what you'd get if you used 'plain' dye rather than white on the cherry armoire. The result wasn't quite what I expected.
So then I began wondering if anyone else had any 'surprises' as a result of using this dye. - so I thought I'd ask.
Here's the armoire:

Oh thats weird, am I right in thinking the plain dye is the un-dye that removes added color? I'd think you would get the natural color of the item in that case. So that's definitely very strange.

Did you do that wtih the "Default" setting for the furniture dye tub? Or the pigments of tokuno bleach? And what type of wood was used?

It's the stain made from plain plants. I knew it didn't work like bleach, we found that out in beta, I dyed a Samurai plate do with it. But I didn't expect that result either. Wood is oak.

oh, ps. Scouring toxin works like bleach.

think she means the plain plant dyes, Kayhynn :) and I like that color, but yeah, I had thought that the plain plant dyes would revert something to it's natural color..... so I'm wondering, if you make verite plate, use orange plant dye on it, then the plain dye, it goes to grey instead verite color? so maybe this plain dye is really grey dye?

(edit...... she beat me... she usually does :) )

I don't know enough about how the art is created, but it appears that maybe this dye removes the colors leaving behind the background color of the image? am I making any sense at all? items in this box are:

valorite female plate
plain backpack
dark blue Staff of Power
plain spellbook
Night's Kiss
gold bricks
Raed's Glory

makes a bit of sense to me that the base color for the gold bricks would be white, with hues of yellow... base color for staff would be black with blue hues

will see if I can find one of the light colored Staff of Power, and if I'm on the right track that should come out kinda grey, yes?

It sure doesn't 'restore to default' like bleach and scouring toxin do. I think it will take some time to investigate the possibilities. I wonder how a soulforge would look? I might nip on test and have a look

Wouldn't you just know it? Test center went down for maintenance and now it's back up, I'm out of time. Later hopefully. I do want to see what it does with a soulforge.

oO

you can dye runebooks other colors than the tub?!?

purple?!?!

these are from the stains from ... plants somehow ... ?

i was just thinking how there was no purple in any of the dye tub options (well other than normal tubs with the full color pallet dealie)

I love the gray/ silver look from the plain dye. I've been waiting literal years for a hue that was like that.

at the risk of being annoying, bumping this thread. Two more things I found really attractive when dyed with this plain plant dye.

I did like being able to dye the wooden statues to look more like the stone ones. Now if only the statue engraving tool worked on them!

I know bumping a post is a no-no but does anybody know how to dye a soul forge? I can't figure it out and can't find any info!

The deed has to be crafted in a special wood (oak usually), not plain wood, and unplaced. Once you've placed it, the deed turns and becomes blessed, when that happens it can't be dyed.

i was pleasantly surprised by what plain dye does to elven robes. they become sort of black/grey/white hued. very pretty (imo).

I've been plain dying stuff out the wazoodle lately, it seems to turn most stuff into a greyish hue that is very pleasant and works well with lunar themed houses. =)
