I have no gripes to leave behind as I exit. Just wanted to say goodbye to those few who helped make my 13 years of UO an enjoyable experience. I have closed both accounts and given away everything I owned, so YES you can have my stuff, IF you can pry it out of the hands who now hold it all.

Thank you to my friends on Lake Austin, you guys are a great community and good people to have near in both peace and times of war. I will remember you as generous friends and miss you all.

Best wishes to those who remain! Carry on the fight and criticize constructively!

When did Tina Small announce that?
She said she was done making 'idle threats' and was seriously quitting this time.

I'm doing something about it. Finally making good on all my idle threats over the years to quit. It's cleaning and packing time. Then it will be time to transfer houses to guild mates that want them. The ones they don't want...I guess the IDOCers can locate and sit and wonder for months whether or not I left anything worthwhile in them. Next comes uninstallation time and some long-awaited free hard drive space and time, oh so much time, to spend on people and other things I never seem to get around to because of UO. And after that it will be time for big smiles when I look at my bank account statements and see all the money still sitting there because it is no longer being used to subsidize the development of game content that caters to pathological losers who glory in their ability to control and cause distress to other people with no consequences whatsoever.

EA, you finally did it. You got my attention in a big way this time. In all sincerity, thank you, Mark, for doing what no one else had managed to do yet. Don't know if I'm making a mistake in shutting things down this way versus just walking away, but my heart is telling me it will be easier and less tempting to return. No panic attacks in two months that prompt me to reinstall and log on again because I somehow left behind some kind of "unfinished business" or didn't save something I might foolishly want later. I will be able to write the end of the chapter without bitterness or a heavy heart, close the book, set it on the shelf, and walk away.

:)

Good luck to you, Sindris. Lake Austin is indeed a very nice shard. I've enjoyed playing there the last couple of years and slowly getting to meet some of its wonderful inhabitants.

Yep, not that it makes any difference in the grand scheme of things. I've been busy clearing out houses and stuffing things in bankboxes and backpacks. Also trying to finish up skills on some of my crafters spread out all over the place and put a little more gold in the bank on a couple of shards. The last challenge I've set for myself is to get imbuing up to GM level on the handful of shards where I've most enjoyed playing so none of my characters on those shards are logged out at the end in their current truly pitiful suits made up of unenhanced monster loot.

Haven't figured out yet what to do with some of the houses shared with guildmates and don't expect to get that situation resolved for another month or more because it's that time of year when people rarely have a lot of time to play. I've never been nuts about the idea of paying for an account one month out of every three just to keep a house standing, but I also hate the idea of just walking out on good friends and leaving them in a lurch. I have no plans to sell any accounts, especially the ones with developed characters. If they want them, might give guildmates a couple of the accounts I have that just hold houses and we can shuffle house ownership to leave standing the houses that are most important to them (e.g., Lake Austin, Origin, GL, Atlantic and Pacific). I'm sure we'll figure out something, but it won't happen over night. After I get those crafters done, suits made, and junk moved to the bank, the way I feel about UO right now, I could easily just walk away and let everything just fall whenever it's gonna fall. But I don't think I'd be very happy knowing I left some good friends with a mess. I still want to be able to jump in the guild TeamSpeak channel once in a while after I quit and be able to talk to them!

Tina alludes to years of grievances. Assuming that she is leaving due to bane dragon griefing is not a charitable characterization of her post.

With apologies to Sindris for even setting foot in this thread and derailing it so completely, Chaos learn to read and quit expecting everyone to spoon feed you the answers you seek. I said: "...it will be time for big smiles when I look at my bank account statements and see all the money still sitting there because it is no longer being used to subsidize the development of game content that caters to pathological losers who glory in their ability to control and cause distress to other people with no consequences whatsoever."

In case you haven't been paying attention, there seems to be a disturbing trend in the last year or two with the game developers and designers to make sure new content always includes some way for other players to antagonize and grief other players in Trammel. Whether or not it affects me personally because I often choose to sit out such events, I'm tired of paying for things like that. I'd much rather see content that brings players together to fight a common foe and rewards cooperation. But that is apparently not the direction in which Cal and company want to take the game since we keep getting content that seems to deliberately drive wedges between groups of people and/or pays great rewards for being selfish. I'm just tired of it all and after reading Mark's latest comment about an official company policy of not getting involved in resolving inter-personal conflicts caused by his programming, I have no hope that anything is going to change for the better in the near future. I just expect it to get worse. Maybe the UO team doesn't want players like me anymore. Maybe they're really after the people that they think want to play UO so they can be the jerk they can't get away with being in RL. I don't know. All I know is I don't feel good about paying for that kind of game content. It just doesn't sit well with my conscience. You and everyone else can do whatever you want about continuing to play UO. I frankly just don't care anymore.

Tina and Sindris dont leave cause of things the Dev are doing, sooner or later they will change them again. They do like dirty socks.
I say Ignore them and play with your friends enjoy your uo life.

Well it does seem that Cal and the Dev have been making it a bit on the griefers side.. I am wondering if its to counter the rants for a classic shard.... cause if you remember back when this all started that was the action of the day.

Those good ol days wernt so good for the person who constantly lost out to the players who made it their mission to ruin play for others just because they could. I dont know or really care that many want the old days back... I lived them and beleave you me they were not so great in alot of ways and it is all in how you look at it.

Tina is right Cal and the Dev have ben making it so people are at each others throats over the banes. I have 1 of the critters total and quite frankly its all I want of them! they are Big stupid and gunna be a pain in the tush to feed by the looks of them for that special breath. Bah! Give me back the Dread mares Ill take fighting the vanguard over this bane war.
Hint Cal_Mythic: If you want people in the lands unused then make quests for things gotten there. Up the antie on the tramel side and add in perhaps same (forget the name of them sorry, where you get the Scrolls- stroke has my brain in a funk right now) But to apease the fel runners perhaps less scrolls and more say regs/imbuing stuff or even new seeds. Open Ish to marking runes I know for a fact id still use the gates for things.
Stop the pitting of people on one another, its geting old and I for one am tired of hearing the yelling.

If only everyone who decided it was "time to go" shared your attitude. The sad irony in that is UO needs more people like you. Whenever someone feels compelled to list their grievances as they quit, I think "good riddance".

Safe journey, and may you have success in all you do.

Tina I agree its time for you to quit, and move on to single player console games, It seems your best fit, maybe farmville or whatever? UO is supposed to be a virtual world, Like any world it should bring you up and down the emotional roller coaster. For if it were a utopia where everyone held hands and took turns and were nice to each other than UO would be just another game. If the World is completely out of UO (is slowly headed that direction) Than UO would eventually die. The world aspect is what keeps UO alive, you have to take the good with the bad.

OSI was already gone Pre AOS/REN when the game started to spiral down they just used the name until it became a joke among gamers. Once UO was under full EA control that was the beginning of the end.

Tina has done alot for UO/Stratics users.

She has a ligit gripe.

There is no big comunity left to kick the griefers in the tail. You all pushed so hard for pvp to top the need list you forgot the main reason UO was so good. The community could do anything, and I mean anything. Hunt alone or in groups, Fish, Craft to their hearts content, yes even pvp too. I am not saying Griefers are the main cause but they count for a good chunk of anger and fustration the leaving players are under.

If you havent noticed UO is practicaly Empty 18 hours of the day on a great deal of shards. Thats not saying people dont play there or that the shard is void of players. What it is saying is that the majority left is the PvP players with a smattering of the rest clinging on for dear life to some sort of "life" there is on those shards.
We all know Atlantic is the PvP capitol of UO.
We can blame EA for a good deal of whats happening but we too have to take some of that blame in the way things are as well. Griefing is being done, we all dont like it when its on our end of our fun, so why is Tina any different in her discust of it all.

Plain and simple the GM's are gone, and the kids are running the asylum. I know all are not kids but you get the drift its the actions we expect from young kids who are BRATS.
Not adults who know better. Yet some will diffend the griefing as part of UO.... well baby if that is how you see it.
I sure hope you know of another game you can go play cause your doing EA a favor and making the last few good players leave the game they love. We loose many more of our base of elder players (of which are holding others in game by a thread)due to their friendship and being there to play with.

To those of you who sit at banks and cry "Im bored" get off your tail and get your friends in game and go hunt reds, do a dungeon , figure out how to teach a new player how to pvp. Other wise get off the comp and go outside and play.

You want classic = you already do have it = its called Siege Perilous and its almost dead.
I dont want to see Tina or Sindrus go or any of you thinking its time to hang it up.
We want better its up to us to make it better. Cause if you wait on EA/Mythic/Biowear to do it UO could be dust before they do something to help the sagging population.

I really do miss the bank sitters on shards, at least they showed me there was hope for UO.

Compare RL to UO? Once that line is crossed maybe it is time to step away for a while, An alternate world is a place where someone can be what they are not in RL. For something to be an alternate world you have to have the good and bad.

If you people who didn't bother to read any of my other posts on this subject think it's fine and dandy for a company to deliberately build content that equates to nothing more than a safe haven on the Internet for people to be anonymous, faceless bullies, go right ahead and keep giving EA your business and your money.

I know UO is just a game. I understand that just fine. But time and time again in the last few years, we've seen EA add new stuff to the game that seems to have been designed deliberately to allow people to be real jerks to other players who are also paying to play the game. When people complain about it, and rightly so, EA turns a deaf ear and does nothing. This last time, however, the developer slipped and actually admitted that EA doesn't get involved in conflicts between players.

So are we to believe that EA's current policy is to design content that allows the jackasses in the game to take control of new features and new content that are added to the game in Trammel if that's the way they want to play the game because basically none of the other paying customers has any ability to do a damn thing about what the jackasses are doing other than to wait them out and hope that eventually they get bored and stop what they're doing?

If that is really EA's new policy--let the bullies take over if that's what they want to do and everyone else can wish the whole game was set in Felucca so they could stomp on the bullies--then I want nothing to do with it. And if I want to complain about the situation, I think I have the right to do so after having paid EA's subscription fees for five and a half years.

Mark understood the situation perfectly, just like Sakkarah understood the situation when she made new content that could easily be controlled in Trammel by the bullies. Cal understood it too when he authorized the addition of chat channels with a skimpy set of control features. And even today, it's apparent that EA really doesn't give a damn about letting the bullies dominate everyone else. No, every day if you want to be in the general chat channel, the burden is on the paying customers to filter out the filth. There are no repercussions in UO for being a jerk in your actions or talking like one too. I've been told by friends who play other games like WoW that all this anti-social behavior that EA permits and lately even seems to encourage would be stamped out in a heartbeart if it occurred in a different game.

If people think none of this is a big deal, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I happen to think this trend is very disturbing and I'll sit here and yell about it if I want to. Go find someone else to pick on because I'm not backing down on this one. If I want to complain about it before I actually walk out the door and leave, I damn well will do that. Just put me on ignore if you don't want to read my comments and if I'm somehow bothering you. At least Stratics gives you that choice...and they don't make you pay for it either.

And the comment about my grandson. Well, that's mostly a response to Chaos who suggested doing something else and ignoring the problems. I'm not gonna do that. I'm an old granny who's sick of seeing the damage that the bullies do when no one cares enough or is too intimidated to speak up. I understand this is just a damn game and yeah some idiot deciding to hog the spawn is in no way equivalent to having a jerk shake your seven week old grandson and totally mess up the rest of the little guy's life and tip upside down the life of everyone else in the family. Maybe having my life tipped upside down three years ago has made me a little more sensitive about certain issues. No, I'm not gonna back down on this. I will speak up when I see stuff like this. The world doesn't need more bullies and it especially doesn't need large corporations to provide opportunities for the bullies to act in complete anonymity and with no repercussions whatsoever. In my opinion, companies that look like they encourage that kind of behavior truly need to be called out for it and at the very least provide some kind of rational explanation for why they're doing it.

Sadly Tina, I am not surprised. Some of the new folks we have had come to LA recently are some of the biggest jerks I can ever remember on our shard.

I am sorry we will lose you, but I don't blame you in the slightest.

For those that want to chime in without paying attention or using the skill of reading comprehension and see what she is talking about, I hope you all realize each time a pillar of the community (any community) leaves it will help end this game. Tina has helped contribute to more things than most of you realize. She has done massive amounts of data collection for all of you, and instead of giving her a hard time perhaps you should mourn the loss and realize that perhaps being griefers isn't a great way to be.

And to Sindris, I am so sorry to lose you too, sorry for helping the derailment.

Dear Tina,
your posts, perspective and uo playstyle will be missed.

I did my best in 09 to destroy the bullies.
http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=180875&highlight=liberation+wars
I had partial success... I got a few perma banned and Felucca open to spawning for three months.
Then I sadly saw a community harrower become a "kill my alliance" event and saw that bullies take over for a short while... then moving to Legends.

I believe i know how we can be heard... and leaving isn't the answer.

It is a simple process called... Sanctions.
If you have two accounts... let one go inactive for 90 days (so you dont lose your home)... then let the other go inactive for 90 days...
Outcome... 50% decrease on the income from one player.

Multiply that for all the people that have no access to powerscrolls, stat scrolls, refuse to compromise their honor so they can spawn or simply hate bullies and online scum... and we might have enough leverage to see the devs take a different approach to ultima online.

I will be around until uo closes... but right now I divide my time playing eve, wow, ddo and the witcher... I log in for the EM events and to make my uo comic strips.

http://www.uoforums.com/attachments...62002-aegis-under-attack-event25thmay2010.jpg

Mostly I agree with you, dear Tina... there should be consequences for some actions. (we do ban their scripters 24/7, we have economical sanctions on their vendors... etc)

I hope you reconsider leaving... and try out something else... or take a short break...

You are welcomed to join us:
- to spawn on Drachs
- to rp on Cats

To you master Sindris... Safe Travels!
