I work in IT, and have to figure out how to deal with these personal "smart phones" on a corporate network, but I still hold to the philosophy that if my phone tries to do anything other than make or receive calls, I will smash it with a hammer.

*chuckles* My phone does just that. I could text on it... but it is a pain in the arse as it has no keyboard, no camera, and desire to be anything other than a phone.

I no longer own a cell phone any more either. The kids and husband even my brother keep harpin on me to get another one but so far, I have not. AND if I ever would get another one I want it to do only one thing...DIAL A PHONE NUMBER.

I would only basically need a few numbers anyways, husband, kids, 911 and the local police dept. and possibly a tow truck company for the car should it die on me.

I used to have a cell phone, when I worked as night deskclerk and night auditor at Comfort Inn & Suites cuz I took the 11pm to 7am shift. That also is the shift that has to exit the lobbey at 3-4am to go fetch everything from the outter buildings by the pool to set up stuffs for guests breakfast. So one is are out there in the middle of the night in the dark, even if by lighted pool, usually alone, fetchin junk. I figured it be best to have cellphone on belt with a can of pepper spray and /or mace on me, so I had those.

One time coming home in the dark my Pontiac DIED on me ...electric windows and electric only lock doors, so it literally imprisoned me when the alternator and battery both died that night.

I always had a telephone book, pen paper and magic markers IN my car too. My pontiac died right near a convenience store. I called THEM to tell them I was stuck in my car. They called the police too. They tried to jumpstart my car, and I sure didnt want to try to breakout the car windows to try to get out. $$$$ it could been pricey to bust windows too soon, to exit the car.

So I was glad to have had a cellphone on me that time. Suddenly I was surrounded by police and guys from the convenience store tryin to get my car's battery / alternator going but the alternator died too or to try to break in to my car to break me out. After about an hour I was freed. hehe. So that is perhaps, the ONLY time ...my once owning a cellphone came in right handy for me.

Anyhow sounds like the kids want me to have a new cellphone hubby too, but I told them IF they get me one, it better only DIAL NUMBERS nice and simple like, without gizmos and gadgets or they can forget gettin me a new cellphone ever.

I have never had a cell. And during teenager years only had a beeper for 6 months for the mt dew challenge.

People still talk on the phone???? when i get a call it is most likely an old person on a land line

BUT BUT my brother in San Francisco whom owns cellphones for 2 states, would be frustrated, if he could not call me up on the land line phone and blab away for 2.5 hrs. every other day , just to me to tell me what he is/isn't up to !

He will be SOOO confused if we got rid of the home phone # !!
