OLD TECH NEW TECH husband wife differences in our *old folks home* yesterday here that I felt like sharing...in case ya maybe find it comic too.

Husband of 39 yrs...sorta new tech with cellphone attached normally to his belt via a camoflag. clip on snap on dohicky. Suddenly I hear MANLY SCREAM... where is my cellphone ?? it fell off my belt !!

I see manly man race all over the house retracing his steps, going to the den, up and down the hallways..outside to the tool shed, to the garden, to his truck out front in the drive way searchin frantically for his lost cellphone.

OLD TECH female me, picks up the old tech land line home phone and calls husband's cell phone. I hear it ring...the shelties here it ring, they bark...hubby hears it ring...we all move toward the sound of his cell phone ringing in the house.

I am crackin up tryin to be supportive...

He looks at me and says in a manly way...I woulda thought of doing that !

I giggle YES DEAR !

He says ...after 39 yrs. you do come in handy in your old ways, sometimes.

I CRACK UP LAUGHIN and say...you're welcome dear ! :)

Just seemed comic to me...sooo IF YALL STILL HAVE old fashioned telephones in your house...use the old land line home phone, when ya loose your cell phone, to CALL YOURSELF ! HAHA

Lol, well played QZ! My significant other lost her phone for a couple days, and although it was on silent we knew it was in the room since my PC speakers would crackle every time we tried to call it

*laughs*

No, his cellphone was under a bunch of wooden wheels he cranked out on a lathe ? sp. on patio and under the pages blueprints for a preschooler wooden train set with animals all made of wood, that he has been workin on, for our first and only grandson to get done and in time, for his 2nd birthday next Nov.

One nice thing about SHELTIES they obnoxiously BARK whenever his cell phone rings, so I guess that they too helped "herding" us better, to home in on his ringing cellphone even quicker.

My land line OLD TECH and our Sheltie herding system, both assisted in our search and rescue combo, to find his cellphone. :)

You know... If I had a "bucket list", sitting down over a backyard BBQ meal with a bucket full of beers with you and your "manly man" and pups would definitely be on it.

*considers a "bucket list" thread...

The top of the bucket list is finding that bucket to kick.

Technology is wonderful and sometimes catches you off guard.
A year ago I had truck trouble at a shopping mall. I did not have a cell phone,
and so I looked for a pay phone inside the mall... they were gone! I suppose
now the rare sight in the US is that lonely payphone.

Worse thought is... suppose we all got those cell phones and a flare killed them?
Yeah, they have computer chips to work...it does not take much of EMP to
put them out of use.
If the electrical power is out in my house , I still have an old style phone which
gets its power from the phone service. I can still call out, can you?

Oh, by the way... my cell phone keeps getting bumped where I carry it.
Now, please... I would look silly with an earphone hooked to my lobes.

What's a bucket list Kelmo ?

I agree with ya Old. Sometimes the more high techy smart a society becomes the dumber it also gets...in that when they loose the techy devices, due to whatever reasons rendering them useless or when the power goes out, folks with even only the electric can openers, might just starve to death.

I keep a non electric can opener around the home too... & survivalistic stuffs, in the home, like lanterns, generator for substitute electricity or whatevers...just in case. Be it weather, or some terrorist attacks on our high tech stuff, one should always have an alternative game plan :gun: so as not to become rendered unable to function.

*smiles* A bucket list is a list of things you would like to do before you "kick the bucket".

I too am a little concerned about the depth technology has invaded everyday life. Out house is surrounded by Wayne National Forest in SE Ohio, and we are used to power outages. Two winters ago it went out twice for three days. We used oil lamps for light and had a wood burner in the basement. Good luck finding stores that still sell the oil for those 'obsolete' lanterns anymore.

Ah a bucket list, things we hope to do before we kick the bucket.. :)
I got it ! :) Then you should like my new laptop's designer's design, by Tweeqim/ Norvus Ordo. Which has a skulll in blues with wings.

Norvus Ordo which is on the back of what remains of our few dollar bills, means NEW ORDER. The design sorta is a mocking barking of the vanishing value of our money globewide, and about *eyes* behind hidden curtains or wings in the background of mysterious sorts whom are, just pulling the strings in the background, whom may seize control, of our everyday lives. Heck they can not even clean up the mess in the GULF due to too many buracracies all talkin in different directions regarding how to fix the mess so nothing gets done in some decent rapid order, so the destruction continues to destroy the Gulf. Can ya imagine when we get attacked by some enemy, besides BP screw up how malfunctioning BURACRACY to resolve/ solve whatever ails us then ???

That design is sorta about demise and destruction...sort of out of chaos comes new order, *not neccessarily better though* kinda a weird sorta new world order lack of order concept. I LOVED IT thus tis on my order for my new order of computering........SHOULD I FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IT ALL TO WORK whenever it gets here.

But alas in this age of high tech, I keep a non electric can opener, coleman lanterns and the newer Coleman battery op. flourescent light lanterns, and as the prior posters have said tryin to find a pay phone or kerosene for a reg. lantern etc. become obsolete.

One day when some terrorists attack our system gonna be lots of people panicing cuz they won't even fathom how to cook or get light or heat or cooling without their ipods, computers, cellphones droids and whatsits. Artificial Intelligence is nice to have as gizmos but chances are when these fail, you on ye own !! :)

WE are prepared here some will not be. What if after some catastrophe high or low tech nation wide, it could be like MAD MAX at the Thunderdome ...we CAN IMPROVISE and will but, others in our land if not globe wide, will not have a clue..without their gizmos, so they're gonna become incopacitated. *sp*

Aye I am kinda awaiting the first police/accident/auto insurance reports/rates via the firstclueless and later to come clueless ones whom are ......ipod listening, cellphone texting driver of a new smart car, that parallel parks itself gets into an accident when their high tech smart car fails to park itself. Oh wait the driver probably won't notice cuz they were too busy texting...while their car failed to park itself in some town square makin a huge mess of an accident.
