Good evening!

Here in the United States, the Fourth of July is an important holiday and marks the founding of our country. Today many of us celebrate our independence with massive BBQ's, fireworks, and parades with our friends and family.

This weekend we invite you to join our virtual family and celebrate the American way with Event Moderators running events across all shards, all weekend long - so check out the new fireworks, see the ceremonies, and join in the celebration with your friends!

As an added bonus you'll find the latest chapter of Lost and Found below - the adventure continues, don't miss it!

From all of us have a safe, happy, and FUN holiday weekend,

- The Ultima Online Team

I hope those who enjoy this day.. enjoy it! I for one have never really done anything special on that day and won't again this year.

But thank you anyway, I may pop round to see an event if they are on Europa out of curiosity of course. :D

Why is Dawn knocking down the walls? What crystal is she looking for?

The devs aren't giving out the fireworks wands or any other little gifts this summer? Or are the EM's giving these out?

The EMs are running events this weekend. Check with your shard's EM website or message boards to find out what their event is.

The event on GL starts at The Colored Canvas in Vesper. (SE of the bank).

All rewards are the same, though there may be variances in name & hue.

Dawn is knocking down the walls because Lord British's vault is supposedly located behind it. In the recent event arc where we had to look for Ricardo's books, we were figuring out the password to LB's vault. In that event arc you could also report to Minax's general, Crag.

Dawn suspects that others may know about the vault and wants to explore it before Minax gets to it.

The crystal they are talking about is a crystal that allows Minax to take form in Trammel. According to old UO lore, Minax cannot enter the Trammel facet but found a crystal that allowed a "shadow" of Minax to form in there. This is from the 1st EM season, when Lord British reappeared for a couple of months.

What I do not understand is... in the end of EM Season 1, Lord British gave up on his goal to reunite the shards into one shard again, and instead went to "the void" with the remaining fragments of the Gem of Immortality, as well as the crystal that allows Minax in Tram. Or so I thought. If that much is true, I don't understand how the crystal made it to his vault from the Void.

Edit: Here is the original BNN article detailing Minax's ability to appear in Trammel. Apparently, it was a device created by a minion of Exodus and was powered by a shard of the Gem of Immortality.

However, here is the BNN article detailing Lord British's depature with all the remaining shards of the Gem:

Both of these articles are from 2003.

Soooo, I guess that means either 1 shard survived or there is a crystal that can power Minax's device just like a piece of the Gem can.

*nods*

And Lord British brought one with him to the Void, which btw was a stupid move on his part, and left one in the Vault, unknown to anyone save for anyone who was greedy enough to look.

Your description of Dawn wanting to get her hands on it, knowing that Minax may have known of its existence, actually makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for posting this....My in-character assumption (Galen's assumption I guess I should say) is that these actions were mostly a sign of Dawn's comparative youth. But Dawn's not all that dumb, her youth regardless. So my explanation kinda felt to me like what some call "ret-conning."

And my out-of-character assumption was that the the designers hadn't thought through the motivations much.

I hope I was wrong on that latter point. Your point's well-taken enough that it's encouraging to me.

:)

Dawn is.....Well, like her name. She is all about sunshine and may come to the rational, if not always correct, conclusion that pretty much everything is better when it's done in full-view. The bad guys can hardly sneak in and steal something that's in plain sight. They'd have to try and take it in full-view, thus by definition they'd be easier to see, and stop.

Multiple Lord British's appear and each take a "wayward shard", and take them into the Void, directly into the hands of the enemy. Are we to believe that any one of the "Lord British's" is our Lord British?

(Note: "our" Lord British being the king from Felucca, before the creation of Trammel. The same Lord British who was abducted. The same Lord British who was then proclaimed rescued and in the same breath proclaimed not Lord British at all, but (was it Dupre?) disguised as him. The same Lord British who would never yield to Chaos, chaos who said "we shall bring chaos so we may remold the world to our order" (paraphrasing) from the mouth of an FOA assassin.)

I didn't realize the vault would be in Lord British's throne room. How, er, obvious? rolleyes:
I was hoping we would have to go in search of the "secret" vault next.

I would've loved to have hunts for ancient secret locations of L.British's hideaways and artifacts. And hideaways for Dupre, Iolo, Jaana, and all our beloved friends of LB. (detectives unite! lol)

Would it be too hard to have a secret dungeon & some clues in that vault for future events? I fear we going to open the vault (small room), find the "last" shard, create a "classic shard" and then call it a day.

Yikes... just got a bad thought... that last shard gem will bring about the destruction of some shards therefore ... drum roll... shard merger! :sad3:

Anyone know what shards have done the staff event yet? Ches, LS, and GL have for sure.
