What to do with 200 million gold?

Over the last several years, I have been playing off and on for several months here and there but I have gotten to the point that I dont seem to find anything to do anymore. I have bought anything I could possibly use, I have solo'd champ and peerless spawns, any guild I join is gone within 6 months, it just seems like I have no purpose in the game anymore...

The other day, I went out around all the big cities and started counting houses (I love doing IDOCs) and I realized.... there are only several hundred houses now a days. There are huge open areas that use to be filled with houses are now just barren land. I have set up several characters on several other shards but it just is not the same to me. So here I am with a loaded account with awsome characters, tons of gold, and probably another 200 million or more worth of stuff. I thought I might have a giveaway at luna bank one day soon but I thought perhaps if someone wanted my gold, they could just contact me on here or something.

Take a boatload of 1 mill checks and wait for a TRUE newb in New haven. Hand a check to them and tell them to have a nice day. Ride off into the sunset, invis and await another newb. Or locate hardworking resource gatherers in the field and drop 500K checks on them.

Sound dumb? The best things that EVER have happened to me in-game are things similar to these acts. Just out in the field ... mining, dungeon crawling ... and someone comes up and asks me for a few minutes of my time. End result, damn nice armor, weapons, cash.

You'd be surprised how nice it feels to get an "holy s***!!!" out of someone for deeds like this.

I too know exactly how you feel. I have played this game since it started and I've also had difficulty finding things to keep me occupied. I even took a year and a half hiatus just because I couldn't think of something to do. I have realized that for some crazy reason I always come back to this game. Even after swearing to myself I'm never going to come back.. I always do. I read once that someone swore there was some kind of addictive clearcoat on the disk.. I almost believe that lol. I just recently moved from another shard to this one and I am so completely happy I did. I was able to join a really nice guild and now I have found there are people who have never done some of the things I was able to enjoy.. so you know what I'm doing? I'm taking them out on an adventure so they can enjoy it just like we did when we were doing them. I know it gets boring, and lonely at some points.. but then again there are those other points that always brings us back. My suggestion to you would be, if you want to give away your items and gold, do it but not all of it. Just in case you decide you want to give it one last fling =) You never know.. and if you get truly bored msg me and I will be glad to go and get myself into trouble somewhere.. afterall everyone needs some deathrobe time every now and again =)

I had another account originally. When AOS was released I was so peeved (word I want begins with "p") that I quit. I dismantled every character except the main - on ATL - which held a Fel villa on Fire Island at the time. I gave that away via these very boards to a new player who had tried her best to save up for a place and the villa suited her to a "T".

I dropped checks for 50-100K on players throughout the lands as far as the funds would go and then dismantled (read deleted) that last character. A year later I was kicking myself for doing that as I setup a whole new account and had to crawl up from the muck of newbie-dom.

During that process, I ran into some really nice folks on LA who needed the hides I could farm as fast as I could. They paid me top cash for them - WBB/Luna prices - and within just a month of very casual play I had me my first house S of the Trinny swamps.

It's been like that all along on LA and Europa (where I have another Paladin in training) - just random (or not so random) acts that make me really glad I'm in this game.

You could start over from scratch on another shard or play Siege.

And I think you’d be waiting a while for a new player at Haven, all that I see there now are tourists from other shards.

I agree with most of what others have said. To me, the best way is to reward good deeds. Makes you feel good to help someone and the recipient feels great. There are lots of ppl on LA who will take the time to help someone.

Hell you could always donate all your money to the zoo, Slacktard could use a new bed.

Are you playing the same LA I am, Tek?

We've had a number of new (or returning from so long ago they are completely new to the current game) players in just the last month. Hell, one of them has now got a thread going 150 or so replies going on in UO Player's corner, where he chronicles his mishaps in relearning the game after over a decade, and a bunch of us LA local offering in-game help and advice.

i'll be honest i stopped going to Haven months ago, everytime i dropped basic gear for new players it was being grabbed up by a couple players for their vendors instead.

I have tried to help new players as much as I can as of late (sometimes to my own peril) but I have nowhere NEAR the amount of money you do. I know this shard is kind of dead, but I do find myself not wanting to go anywhere else either.

I know how hard it can be to find things to do (I left another game for that reason). Right now, I am so far behind the 8 ball to get some good characters up to speed, I know if it were me, helping someone out with money might not help as much on this shard. I would think items and things of that nature would be more useful.

I know how Tek feels too though, I just gave away a ton of money to folks that I found out were just alts of other people (well, a ton is relative, to me and my sorry butt a ton is about 15 million in items and money). I almost cried, I needed that money myself, if I had known the people were scammers and not new, I would never have given them the money. The new people I have been able to help that were valid new people, it was rewarding.

I don't know if you can find the spark you had for this game. You could try Siege, or a totally weird template no one can figure out like a necro ninja lumberjacker. I found I get my spark back when I try another game and realize how void of substance they are and I gladly come back everytime.

Follow your instincts on what to do for obviously they did you in good stead getting that 200 mil to begin with, and probably associated houses. and have a good time disbursing it. I for example would wait until somebody is selling something at the bank, buy it, and give it to a new player. (hopefully in front of the salesman) But until then try this online comic i came across. I'll start you at an appropriate point for this column you can always go to the beginning.
Enjoy

I was thinking that after last night ... I lost more in insurance than I gained in cash. Oh well. It was still fun and I have somewhere around 5K+ deaths before I run out.

One of my goals set 10 years ago was to have a Trammel Castle. If I had that kind of gold I would definitely complete that goal set so many years ago. I currently have 2 houses on 2 accounts in Ter Mur. Always too late in finding a Trammel Castle spot.

That is what I would do with 200 million. If I was lucky to find a open spot and place a Castle myself, that would be the most cost effective way to do it. :)

I am sorry to hear you have lost the fun in UO. I know breaks is a good way to get the UO spirit back. :)
