GM Parry vs GM Healing

Okay lets say that there is no use of DCI, HLD, & HLA being used. Which skill do you think is more usefull on a Sampire? Healing would have the support skill of Anatomy with a 120 base dex.

I have one of each.

Advantage to Parry: Get hit less (Up to 12% less against most monsters!)

Advantage to healing: Can cure poisons without taking the time to cast cleanse by fire. Can heal the person standing next to you.

I can't honestly say you should pick one over the other, but lately my healing-sampire is more fun than my parry-sampire. On the other hand, I tend to run in groups.

I tried without parry and you gets lot more damage especially if you are againist high level monsters.
As farsight says, remove parry only if you want to play in party only, but if you think to solo monsters like medusa, stygian dragon, etc... healing won't help you.

My problem in the past experience has been Chivalry heals, & leeches are not always enough to keep one healed up. Don`t plan on trying to solo boss mobs. The high end stuff may be no more than Dragons & mini-champs in SA. This is for a pet project on a secondary shard.

Trying a Budget Build useing nothing more than virtue armor, & newbie Jewelry from New Haven quest. Was kind of Suprised even in Vamp Form virtue armor gives you 61 fire resist, & add the Clasp of Concentration from newbie forcus quest its 66 fire resist. Trying to figure out the best combination to go with:

120 Mace
110 Bushido
100 Tac
100 Ana
100 Necro
90 Chiv

Which leaves a 100 points left over. On my main sampire I`ve got both healing, & parry. Just trying to figure out the most bang for the skill points.

Chiv could be considered if I went the protection -2 fc & got fc 3 on Jewelry weapon combo. Which would work untill one is hit by mana vamp or drain. Plus it waist a good mod slot on a weapon.

SS with curse weapon could be an alt, but it is still not a direct way to heal. Don`t hit the oponent no Heal. Close by corpses are also a source of heal.

Healing is going to be limited to a 5 second timer. If cursed that will probable take longer.

Parry, get hit less need for a heal, but 12% less hit is good but still. Confidence benefits from parry.

Okay, so what your rate of death robes without healing? If you relie on Chivalry do you run with protecion or just fc 3 fcr 6?

Plus low Dex weapon of choice for a macer would seem to be Blackstaff 2-hander.

*starts to think he needs to carry healing pots*

Well, first off my two favorite mace weapons are the blackstaff and the diamond mace. Blackstaff you can get away with 20-25 SSI, but the diamond mace needs 25-30 SSI. Blackstaff has whirlwind, comes in handy for large mob spawns, and never need heals. I carry both most times.

Healing pots... a good idea and definite advantage if you have a good source for those.

As far as which skills, I assume you don't have soul stones to try each? If I had to pick one, it would be parry because bushido isn't nearly as effective without it. The only time healing with my sampire is an issue is immediately after death... I either have to wait until I have mana or go find a low end mob to gain mana to cast heals and VE. I also carry a Boomstick w/3 MR for those occasions.

I'd slightly amend farsights post to what i think are the most useful aspects-

Advantage to Parry:
Get hit less (Up to 12% less against most monsters!)
Evasion - a life saver against boses/tier 3 champs mana dumps/when redlining.
Counter-attack is awesome! double whatever special you have primed when you successfully parry.
Confidence stamina boost works upon successful parry!

Advantage to healing:
Can cure poisons without taking the time to cast cleanse by fire.
Can heal the person standing next to you.
Healing without relying on mana/hitting something to heal - great when mana vamped and fleeing with evasion, or simply low on mana when fighting/ressed.
Ressing others without noble sacrifice

I've just switched from healing to parry because i missed evasion and counter attack so much. Healing seems too slow to be effective and poison completely nullifies it's effects, when you can simply leech through any level of poison! Better to focus on not getting hit, keeping your stam up etc and keeping momentum of the fight.

I've found simple things like para succubus and balrons easier since the switch, but have yet to test against para-cu or in champ spawns.

I am terrified of not having that constant mana-free drip feed of life from macrod bandies, but figure i can just use pots/ecru (which are faster to take effect) instead and save 100 skill points.

If really desperate (when i was human) i'd use a JOAT curse weap to get two 70% life leech hits, which'd top me up most times, but i've now lost that ability being an elf, but worth bearing in mind!
