Please Make Virtue Armor & Paladins Sword Craftable

The individual pieces of the Virtue Armor Set look nice but are rendered nearly useless because we cannot craft, enhance, or imbue the individual pieces and make use of them. I'd love to take the Virtue Gauntlets or the Breastplate and make use of it in a suit but I cannot.

The Paladins Sword is no different. It is the only two handed greatsword that doesn't look like it is derived from Feudal Japan (nothing against Samurai and Ninjas; but a No-Dachi doesn't fit well with a Paladin of Trinsic). But I can't do much with the Redeemer.

Slap them with Platemail Armor and Halberd Base Stats and let us use them.

There are too many virtue set items on vendors for 10-50k each. Why you want it craftable?

He/She likes the look of them. She isn't asking that we can make blessed armor, she wants to be able to make armor which looks the part.

I want to be able to take the individual pieces (i.e. Virtue Gauntlets) and enhance them to be useful outside the set.

So for instance; I personally like the look of the Virtue Breastplate. I stained one black the other night. Put in on my character with the rest of my armor. It looks pretty cool. But the problem is I'm playing a mage.

What if there was a craftable piece that was (in terms of the art) virtually identical that I could imbue with LRC, Mage Armor, and relatively acceptable stats?

That is what I'm talking about. I can get as many pieces as I want but the items are still junk unless I can craft or imbue it.

This is the kind of thing I like to see - More cosmetic options that don't restrict functionality. I fully support this.

Could even make a series of crafter quests to get the recipes (NOT PvE quests, turn in quests for recipes that will bind to the character). Make them big and take a lot of resources.

Fluff is great - Fluff that you have to work for, in my mind, is even better.

But not so big that we never see it used. When is the last time you saw crafted Bone or Dragon Scale on a vendor?

Oh, you misunderstand me. My intent was not to make the items THEMSELVES costly, but make acquiring the recipes costly. I'm thinking bulk amounts of raw resources, like various ingots or lumber. From there on, make crafting the pieces work the same as plate, maybe include a random imbuing resource for good measure, if you wish.

And it should be MAGE ARMOR if exceptionally crafted. I want to look good in plate again.

I saw some crafted bone armor on a vendor on either Asuka or Yamato on Monday. Looked at this vendor selling dragon scale armor on Asuka yesterday:

I sell about 2-3 sets of dragon scale a week from my little out of the way shop. Some nutter out there is into it.

red dragonscale is nice for sampires, the really high base fire resist easily negates the fire penalty of vamp form.

I busted my rear to get it via the dungeon crawling and now you would like my efforts to go to waste? Sorry, no.

Imbuable with a chance to break ... sure. Craftable, un-unh

Dude. Wtf is your problem? You busted your ass to get essentially worthless armor? Good job. Want other people to not benefit from the visual appearance because you busted your ass getting what is essentially junk... wow, really? Misery loves company huh?

Truth is, changes like what the OP is asking for would hugely benefit UO as it brings back customization to what your character looks like. You can be a cranky old man all you want, but don't try to justify it with reason.

What if making Virtue armor required high Karma level for the smith and having aquired the highest path in the correspsonding Virtue.

So a trustworthy smith who was a Knight of Justice could craft Virtue Breast Plates, A Knight of Valor could make craftable virtue guantlets, etc. Tailors could make the cloaks and shoes with the same requirements.

A Legendary Paladin smith with the highest level of karma could make the Holy Pally swords.

As stated in earlier posts these would simply be plate type with the Virtue armor graphic and mage armor property when exceptional.

Yes I know the Virtue system is not done but that might not be a bad direction to move.

-Lore's Player

PS: I wish there was a way to convert items into other types... A Paladin running around with a No Dachi isn't as bad as one doing battle in sun glasses.

"Never have the sun in your eyes as an excuse for defeat, try the Oakley mace and shields? My advantage, the polorized lenses?"

Personally i think this is a great idea.

Virtue armour would stay as virtue armour.

The graphic would become a new item, maybe "knights platemail"?

Should be mage armour upon exceptional, but then again i think all platemail now should.

And nothing against making the paladin swords craftable, i seem to remeber it being said would happen at one time?

As you pointed out, the system isn't complete.

Initially, I like the idea. However, the problem I see with that is, now you have to make your Crafter (If it's a pure crafting character) a PvE character, or a PvE Character (Particularly a Paladin) into a crafter.

Not out of the realm of the impossible, but may rub some people the wrong way.

Now if there were alternative ways to gain in virtues other than through PvE (And of course, the system was complete) I'd think most would go along with it.

I like this idea. Take the existing graphic make it craftable and imbue your own mods onto it. Call me old-fashioned but I don't like the idea of mages wearing it. How many mages have you read about or seen in movies wearing PLATE? Mages should have their own styles of MAGE-LIKE clothing/armor to wear - so they look like mages. I can't imagine Gandalf in a suit of plate. But a pally - absolutely! O'course if ya bringing back ye ol tank mage...hmmm?

I wish it'd go back to a time where different armor types provided benefits as well as consequences.

Now, if it's made of metal, all it does is give you a penalty.

Agreed.

That or some variant on the Knight motif; Templar, Hospitallier, Justicar, Chevalier, etc.

This is different than what you suggested; but what if high level Paladins could summon and bless their weapons and armor with certain properties? (i.e. Turn Undead causes low level undead mobs to flee from the aura of blessed paladin armor.)

Um... dispel evil already does the turn undead and UO doesn't have levels so it would be hard to code. Dispel Evil turns undead depending on your karma and it's fame AFAIK

I busted to get something unique that this proposition wishes to remove. I'm not allowed to have a unique item? Didn't say not to be able to imbue them, did I?

Or as others have posted ... the crafted ones are named differently - I think Knights Armor was mentioned.

But to make a crafted copy of something that is unique in the game is not right IMO.

I prefer the freedom of Ultima Online. We have the option to have a mage in plate if we so choose. But I agree with you in the sense that platemail is inappropriate for a mage and should have some negative benefit to balance the increased defense that platemail should (but doesn't) offer.

I liked how they developed cloth armor. And some of it looks surprisingly good. But unfortunately humans can't wear any of it. (If you drag most of the items onto your paperdoll you can see the shadow image fits even the humans and elves; but otherwise we're up a creek in that regard.)

It is another example where I'd like more customization and options for my avatar. But instead we've been slowly moving away from our sandbox roots and putting restrictions on everything. (A male can wear a dress but female kimonos and elven robes are off limits; even though the latter is merely a hoodless version of the ones males wear. And humans have to join factions to wear elf items which leaves most roleplayers up a creek.)

You are confusing BC with ME! I reserve the right to be the Cranky Old Man!

Actually, I do agree with Beer_Cayse in this. I think the Virtue armor should remain a unique item with a unique way to obtain it... after all, it's still available. I just don't see the "huge benefit" that you claim for UO. As far as making a craftable item without the properties of the Virtue item, meh... give it a different name without the all 70's resist.

It would be nice if your paladin didn't have to look like a samurai/ninja/mage hybrid. Wouldn't it?

I think so.
