It's not FROM blizzard it's FROM criminals who got your email from websites that sold your email to the criminals for good old cold hard cash.

Blizzard replaces items from hacked WoW accounts which means it's more work for Blizzard to investigate hacked accounts and to then do the work required to reimburse their hacked players, so it doesn't make sense they'd do anything that would COST them DOLLARS.

Please don't be silly kthx?

Are you being serious?
What part of the OP made you think that he believed it was actually an email from Blizzard?
I guess the whole "phishing" thing in the thread topic wasn't obvious enough.

Besides, you're basically pinning the blame on sites for selling email addresses.
I guess you're just pretending spiders and other datamining methods don't exist.

Just a FYI btw, a new 'avenue' for these seems to have cropped up.
Having regularly trashed missives from 'Blizzard' and 'NCSoft' I'm now getting requests to update my twitter account. Which is going to be just as difficult, because I don't have one of those either.

Yes I could have read the OPs post a little more closely but I'm Sooo sick of seeing these 'omg I peed my pants when I opened my email' posts to be honest, when emails are a dime a dozen.

Make a new email every time you sign up for something and then forget the email and you won't have to worry about phishing attempts?

I love Blizzard phishers ingame in WoW just click on their name and report them as spam and poof they're gone.

I will defend Blizzard when I feel it's warranted.

On the other hand, methinks you doth protest too much oh Stratics employee.

At&t damn sure sold the email I once gave them and they're a huge company worth tons of money.

But I'm sure smaller businesses (like those who run online fansites) would never sell the emails I give them?

Yeah, riiight...

So... Don't read them?
Is the population of your shard so diminished that you don't have enough people to harass in-game?

I couldn't say one way or the other, and don't speak for Stratics.
I speak for myself, but since you somewhat unveiled your accusation, I'll add that with regards to that, my gut says no. You're slinging mud, and regardless of whether you're right or wrong, you're out of line.
That's the core of my protest.
Who knows, if you'd actually made a post that wasn't completely terrible, I wouldn't have protested.

er, where in the hell did you EVER think I was biting on this? I know it ain't from Blizzard for pete's sakes. I'm letting folks know another round of stupid people are at it again.

Yeesh. Reread my note. I'm an IT professional of over 35 years, have taught classes in AV products, usage and hack efforts. I do believe I know what I am doing (or not).

I'm surprised they did not ask you to verify billing info by providing the credit card number, billing address, card expiration date, and 3-digit security code on the back...

I've been getting them for my non-existent paypal account too.

Not only did you not even read the thread you apparently didn't even read the title, lol. Heck, I knew this wasn't a serious thread just by looking at the title :p

Credit card fraud is sooo rife atm, 8 people i know irl have had some kind of fraud on there cards, so that promted me to cancel my cards for the time being and use a top up credit card, much safer tbh! :thumbup1:

we use a pre-paid cash card for online purchasing. No link to your bank account and you, or anyone who might get hold of the details by illicit means, can't spend more than is loaded on it. Costs us a small fee each month, but we think it's worth it for the additional security. The one we use is 'mastercard' so we can use it anywhere you'd use a mastercard credit card, including uo subs and uogamecodes.

Ya, i have a Visa pre-paid (top-up) card and it is exactly like a "normal" Visa, can use it everywhere and its so much more secure!

mmmm LifeLock! They saved my butt once already. Seems somehow someone got a bit of my info a little while ago, requested a CC in my name to them and blah blah blah. They were able to get a small loan out in my name though. Was a pain in the butt to get that off my credit report. But all went well!

Re: Oh and PS Lace he knows it's not from Blizzard.

I've received bogus e-mails "from Blizzard" many times before. I've never played WoW, visited the website or used a free trial for the game (if they have one). Interesting how these things pop up. I'm assuming, since I play UO, whoever sends the phishing stuff out just looks for the right demographic and shoots e-mails away hoping the recipient might be affiliated to the "company" or product they're attempting to represent in some way.
