Prospector's Tool

Is there something new with the Prospector's tool that I don't know about.

I only ask because I keep a vendor and throw some of these on at 50 gold a piece. (Not trying to make much profit, just putting them out there more as a public service and the 50 gold covers the cost of vendor fees)
They used to sell sporadically.
Now I can't keep them in stock!
We are talking over 300 sold in the past week.

Not sure if this is due to an increase interest in mining (scripted or otherwise)
or if there is some new imbuing thing (exploit or game mechanic) or perhaps they are the new weapon of choice against some type of monster (highly doubtful) or if I just have a new avid mining customer.

So I thought I'd ask if anyone heard anything.

My guess is that you probably ran into a competitor who doesn't want you underselling them and so is buying you out to keep you from doing that.

If that is true, hope the poor guy has enough lock downs, lol.
Even if he is reselling them that was enough to fill 3 vendors full.
This mining house is pretty remote and just sells stuff to the local miners and acts as a public forge to those without a fire beetle who mine the nearby mountains.

But hey I am not complaining, that vendor is now making a profit. Granted it is just pennies but a profit none the less.

But I might still poke around looking for another explanation. Thing is it is not one of my regular customers or at least none of them are owning up to it.

I have heard numerous similar stories. It's most likely about making a profit. Could be someone just bought them cheap to resell them for a profit on a high traffic vendor. Some player have huge amounts of space and gold so purchasing a few hundred items presents no problem

It might be some scriptor using them too... It takes about 6-8 100-use shovels/picks to go through 1 prospector's tool if you're hitting the spots every time, and getting 12-15 digs per spot.

Maybe it's because of the change to dragon barding introduced in the last publish. Now that colored ore gives benefits, people may be doing more mining to make/sell the updated barding deeds or the 750 ingots used per deed.

what are the colored ore benefits? here is all i could find on the change:

Swamp Dragon Barding Armor

* Modified swampdragon armor so that it reflects the effects of player armor.
* It now gives the dragon bonuses as if it were 5 pieces of plate armor.
* If it is crafted exceptionally, then +5 is added to all resists
* If it is crafted with special materials, then the appropriate resists are added.
* The amount of armor points available now show in the mouse over tool tip.
* This change will not update exsisting armor on your dragon, but old deeds will be updated.
* Riding an armored swamp dragon now blocks active meditation.
* When the armor is removed, resists go back to what they would be without armor.

blocking active meditation sucks. we rarely see swampies on the pvp field, everyone is on ethies and faction horses. what a dumb thing to do, mages won't use them now whereas they might have before.

also does the swampy armor protect the player any more? or just the swampy?

See bolded text above for the colored ore benefits. Also, I'm pretty sure one of the devs posted that they were removing the meditation blocking of the armor. Also fairly certain the armor still protects the player.

First of all, the damage points before breaking are now displayed on the dragon.

I think they might have reverted the Swampy blocking active med.

Comparison of resists, normal unarmored swampy vs. Exceptional Verite Barding (I didn't have enough ingots to do a valorite)

Normal / Resist / Wearing Verite
39 / Physical / 84
27 / Fire / 62
35 / Cold / 60
27 / Poison / 62
36 / Energy / 56

Total bonus from the verite armor for the swampy: 45/35/25/35/20

So that's 160 total points; 135 after subtracting the +5 to each resist from it being exceptional
That leaves a normal verite barding as 40/30/20/30/15 or equivalent to 5 normal armor pieces (As per the description above) of 8/6/4/6/3; 27 resists (base 15 + 12 from Verite).


If anything, it will allow a non-vet's swampy to survive longer while training its skills up.
