Hello all,
I have just completed an exhaustive survey of all the land masses of Sosaria and have a few observations I would like to share. The thread title is just a lark- this has very little to do with Democracy.
I estimate the current number of houses on all land masses to be somewhat shy of 1000. Perhaps as few as 700. I was not keeping a tally so I could be way off. I have found less than ten no name houses. There were only a couple of houses marked Grandfathered.
The highest concentration of houses was in Felluca. It is surprisingly settled but 80-90% of the houses are towers, 18x18s, keeps, and castles; Very few small houses. (Which I guess means very few new players)
Based on this and my own experience I estimate that there are at least several hundred paid accounts. I am not sure about the various possibilities for owning more than one house. I did see a couple of names pop up more than once but since names are not unique they could be distinct accounts.
I am guessing that we have 150-250 "active" players, almost all with multiple accounts. We are spread out geographically and by time zone so no more than 20-40 players are generally on at once. There are probably another few hundred inactive players who do not want to drop their homes.
I know this is all ball-parking and estimating, but there has been a of discussion on these boards about population and I thought a little direct observation could shed some light.
Now for my opinion on this. -Everyone has an opinion rolleyes:
We need some new players. Poaching from other servers is not a sustainable strategy. Game development and customer service are vital but they are secondary in attracting new players. (They primarily support retention)
If Mythic wants UO to be a going concern they will have to treat the game as an active property and support it in the marketplace.
Just my $20
