I would suggest waiting on makeing any new house designs or changing your current ones until we hear fro mthe producers on the history and future of goza mats. I hope the big hammer is not on the way. It will be VERY sad to see some of the most inventive and unique homes sent to the by and by.

But again just a suggestion wait on any new house designes and changes until the next producer letter hits the shelves.

wondering what the collective decorator daemons did, exactly, to anger the UO ghods.... first they take the east and south side border, two tiles deep, and restrict use of multi-tile add-ons (and it is not the strictly south and east sides, you can't place them in the interior south and east sides of castles and keeps) and now this possible threat to our goza mat creations?

put me on the unhappy camper side, if so :(

edit to add.... this is where the concern comes from:

<snip>This is a prelude to topics that I’d like to cover in a more expansive letter this week:

  • We’ll discuss house design and gozamats: History and future<snip>

NERF HOUSE DECORATION!

What the hell.

Hit enter too soon.

We really should start some sort of protest thread. I mean, shouldn't things that done adversely effect (affect?) other people's gameplay be left alone?
It's probably something stupid like "We wanted imbuing to have a down side so the imbuing tool (soulforge) took up a lot of space in your house, since you can chop parts of it off with goza mats we are just gonna fix it so you can't do anything with them."

Quote totally made up by me but I'm willling to bet it's something like that or "it's no fair that cleaver people added floors onto their houses!" (how its unfair I dont know but....)

I'm very concerned about what could be coming with this.....

Is it in relation to soul forges or is it in relation to the people making 4th and 5th stories and more on their houses???

Who knows...?

But I just can't imagine not being able to "break" things... and create wonderful designs...

I would be very sad if they took that ability away.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions I'm going to wait and see what is said about the goza mats. but if I had to guess I would say it is related to the people making more floors above the legal levels of floors each plot is allowed.

it appears we've already been told, in a roundabout way.....

notice of suspension to someone on Legends

please note the bit I've bolded below:

Example is visible on legends luna southside(inside the city)

Your Ultima Online account has been flagged due to the following violation of the Rules of Conduct.

Violation: Illegal House Design
Shard: Legends
Character:
Note: When next you log into your account, you must re-design your house and remove any extra levels you have placed. Failure to do so may result in long term suspension or possible termination of your account.

Rules of Conduct: 19) You will not exploit any bug in the Ultima Online product or the Ultima Online Service. You will not intentionally use or share any bug found within Ultima Online, whether or not it grants an unfair advantage, is real or fictitious. You will not communicate the existence of any such bug (either directly or indirectly) to any other user of the Ultima Online Service. You will report any such exploit using the bug reporting methods as described by the Ultima Online Service at http://www.uo.com/mailBug.html.

The additional levels that are mentioned is a small roof top greenhouse less than a third of the size of my roof. It contains 1 added floor for what will be an open topped loft area on it. A GM decided randomly this is illegal. I was paged on in the past and told it was fine because it didn't required a bug, any program or less than honest methods. What happened?

so it appears the extra levels are, indeed, the issue..... not a good day here in UOland

It would be a huge disaster removing the the current abilities with Goza Mats. I don't see a problem personally, people should be allowed to do what they want with them. However, if you're causing lag within the game then I believe something should be done. Each should be handled on a case-by-case basis.

One my favorite parts of UO is decorating, removing Goza Mats would be a huge step back.

I went over to check his house out, and actually the GM was wrong he didn't have an extra level on his house. he as a 3 story house. which gives him 3 floors and a roof which makes it 4 levels. his house as 3 levels(floors), and the goza mats are on the 4th level (the roof). right now he can go into customized mode, and build a 4th level on his house by putting a floor down, and full size walls.

right, and the whole instance is pretty silly.... if the complaint was lodged because the house sign on the other side of the road was blocked by a rubble wall tile (and I don't know that it was, it was just something that was mentioned) then maybe we're in for a long summer because you could also block view on that road with one of those incredibly large statues from the Abyss, couldn't you?

these guys are in the house right next to the one that got suspended..... move them over three or four tiles and isn't that the same thing? or am I missing something again? (I didn't step on that house to make them load, they are always visible, and I'm not picking on this guy, they just happen to be there)

I think it's the attitude of the GMs in question that bother me about this. IF the complaint was a house sign being blocked, it was blocked ONLY by one corner of Omnius' design. A simple request from the GM to lower that one corner with a shorter wall piece would have sufficed, instead there is a suspension and a command to tear it all down.
If you don';t want us using the things...then take em outta the game! Don't give us deco items and then tell us we can't use them as we see fit.

I actually find it ridiculous that with all the cheating and scripting and duping stuff going on in UO, taht this is what the GMs spend their time worrying with.

One things I am wondering about... There is some form of trick or exploit that forces an item (or items) to load whether you step on the house steps or not. To me, this seems to be the real cause of the issues. However, it appears action is being taken against all.

Tazar, it's the flooring used under the daemon statues, I think, that whole roof is floored with that and has always been visible... I recall Sarsmi saying one time that if you wanted your deco to always be visible to use a certain type of floor

While I never used goza mats for house design myself, I can imagine that if they change it, they may have a reason. Maybe there was some kind of exploit with goza mats. Or maybe it was just because people can use goza mats to make houses so high that they block the sight of anything standing behind them. I don't know.

All I do know is that they wouldn't change it for no reason.

The "rafty" tiles I think as she put it (SE bamboo) do the trick. :)

It is the green/grey bamboo tiles. They force whatever is placed above them to always be visible. And it was Sarsmi who let me know about them. Also anything place over steps will do the same thing. It is an awesome trick and I really hope they dont change it! Not allowing the ladder to be placed on the top floor of custom homes would probably raise less of a ruckuss.

It's cause the yellow ones look like the little rafts from legend of zelda. :D

Man I really need to do some new goza stuff in celebration of Cal's decision to not take action against us decorators for any reason (he may regret saying that, since blocking people in a house is still quite possible).

Ideas, ideas! Hrm!

I think you'll find that blocking people in might still cause problems. Though with 'leave house' on the context menu you can't actually block people in. Penning animals is still an offence.

Floating globe should be fine - as long as you are not in luna on the 17th floor. :p

You have to be able to see your character in order to get the context menu so you can leave - there are definitely ways to visually block a character off from themselves. But that's a circle trans issue in general, really.
