Gardeners, Water Pitchers, and the Magical Wave

Just FYI, the ability to overfill water pitchers was not a bug, it was done on purpose to make the life of a gardener easier. That's the whole reason the magical wave was implemented in the first place.

Was there some particular issue that overfilled water pitchers were causing? If it was because barrels could be filled ad nauseum, how about making the barrels non-overfillable.

Don't make changes for the sake of making changes, please. I'm pretty sure no one was complaining about overfull water pitchers. Where in the world did this "fix" even come from?

I concur, I have been overfilling my water pitchers for over 4 years now. Please Do Not take this away.:stretcher:

I think it was a bug, as the 'infinite' water pitcher existed before gardening was introduced.

But they may have left it in longer for gardeners and because it is not so severe.

Probably turn out that in order to speed hack you have to carry an infinite water pitcher on you, fill it at a magic wave near tile 0,0,0, dance to the left while clicking chessboards to the right...

That or someone over there was like, "No way I'm letting a water pitcher hold 64,000 uses."

I mean, fine, they don't have to be infinite, but if you're going to do that, make us a water buck that holds 100 fills, or make the water pitchers hold 100 fills -- throw us a bone here.

It was a easter egg given to us by the DEV. Definetely need to take this so called fix out. You might not speak to the previous DEV's but we remmeber what they told us.

Water pitchers should be left alone plz. growing tons of plants with a 5 use pitcher is the pits!! p.s. the water barrels do have a limit 20 pitchers worth is max I have had the unfortunate need to clean up a castle spot full of them before the house change where they dont block.

The overfilled water pitcher is very handy for gardeners. I beg the devs to please reconsider this change!

What would you give to have one chance, just one chance
To swap that day for this.

You can still fill pitchers from any water source on same sub-server via UOA, so until they fix THAT, eh, I don't care all that much :).

I highly doubt it was an easter egg. They simply never added a check to see if the pitcher was full. It is completely understandable. Why in the world would a water pitcher filled thousands of times be useful?

Gardeners complaining about this just need to install a water trough in their home.

As a gardener, removing an extra couple mouse clicks in the process is greatly appreciated! Now I'll need to stop every 5 plants and fill it up, A pain in the arse? Not too much, But still annoying!

Have to agree, don't take away the overfilled water pitchers. Having to refill the pitchers when watering large ammounts of plants would be extremely annoying indeed...

If this was done to prevent overfilled water barrels from causing problems at IDOC's, then just prevent the water barrels from being overfilled.

For those of you who don't understand why overfilled pitchers make things a bit easier, grab a few dozen seeds and tend them every day for a couple weeks and you will understand. :)

If they increase the amount of uses from a single pitcher, from 5 to say... 50 (just throwing out a number that is not too ridiculous), then I see no problem with the fix to this bug.

It really sucks filling the same pitchers over and over (and over and over...) to train cooking or grow plants.

Water barrels don't even block house placement at IDOCS any longer, but the leftover stew discs from boiling cauldrons do. Gardeners love their overfilled pitchers!

Except of course that there's a lot of difference between tend five plants, walk somewhere, fill the pitcher, walk back, repeat and click fill click fill click fill...

And with UOA or the EC, you could fill the pitchers with minimal effort, which would leave your play time focused on tending plants.

It's a significant change, and not a good one.

As to why would a water pitcher never run out of water... yes, because things like fireballs and energy vortexes make sense. It's a game. Sometimes convenience needs to win out over "reality."

Instead of adjusting the pitcher again, Why not create a watering can? Which holds like 100 uses. :p

If the devs implement this, it'd better not be available only via uo gamecodes purchase!

Sadly for that to mean something the replacemnt should be done at the same time it's taken away. But the real point is they are removing history, tradition. Yes it's small history but it's part of the vets history.
Yes, it is. I have a rune to that stupid wave in Vesper for a reason, not for the fun of it.

You can make a UOAssist macro for the pitcher to refill with one button press.

The only thing taken away here was the ability to have a pitcher with seemingly unlimited uses when charged. No extra clicks were added.

I am glad I was not the only one unhappy about this "fix". Just wipe water barrels out of existence and be done with it. Or as others have suggested wipe them both but give us a water can with 100 uses or some such... otherwise I expect "The Green Thumb Army of Rebellion"(tm) to be one mighty fine EM event!

People that garden using Lock-Downs (as opposed to the backpack variety) will have a much harder time because they will constantly need to go to the trough, fill x pitchers, go back to plants and tend until water runs out, return to trough etc.

For backpack gardeners who can tend while standing next to a trough this is a more managable annoyancy.

Someones messing with the water pitcher filling?? Are they serious?? I've been gardening for years, and using this little bit of ease, and someone nerfed it?

Ok, the virtues haven't been touched in how long?? UO is only based on virtues, and yet, gardeners get jerked over?

I haven't tried it yet, but tomorrows another morning of watering.

As someone who was late in finding out how to overfill water pitchers, I have played for many years with bags of water pitchers stashed in the backpacks of my cooks and gardeners. All my houses also have a trough in the kitchen and in the garden. I do feel your pain though and hope this change will be reversed! Until it is, though, just be aware that you don't have to walk across a room to fill up your water pitcher. You SHOULD be able to target the trough from clear across the room. Heck, when I work cooking in Haven, I only have to click the trough in the kitchen up the hill from the bank just once per logon and can then refill all my cook's pitchers while she's standing at the bank by using a last object/last target macro. So if they haven't mucked this up too, refilling pitchers from a water trough may not be as bad as you expect.

Also, if you're working cooking with a character that has no home to use for training, a nice place to do it is in Zento. The pond is close to the cook NPCs and oven(s) and the bank.

Is there a limited range to refill from a trough?

I don't want to get into details here, but there is a "magic" number that messes with UO code... I wonder if this is a fix for a much bigger issue we are not thinking about?

The clicks have nothing to do with it. I have a wave near my house. I can walk to it and click 100 times. Now I will have to water 5 plants, stop, go fill the pitcher.

I have yet to figure out how a trrough works. I have one that will not fill and the other fills then empties...

OMG.....this is ridiculous ! :gee:
I have to grow my plants in my bug and in my bank......This feature allowed me to be able to tend my plants......As it is ,it already takes me well over 40 minutes to tend to my plants......this little "bug" saved me 20 minutes.....
Seems this only gives more people a reason to script it....great fix guys :gun:

As a funny sidenote. This change totally ruins some of the most popular gardening scripts, which is a likely *real* reason why some are complaining.

So hey, you anti-cheaters, shouldn't you be happy that it curbs cheaters? Or do you only want to do that as long as it doesn't directly affect you?

Excepting of course you'll now have to refill it every five uses.

How again does this add nothing to the amount of time it takes to tend plants?

Funnier side note... since I've never used any of "the most popular gardening scripts," I wouldn't know what this broke or "fixed," but a design mantra should never beat the average player over the head in order to correct the actions of a cheater.

I'd respond further, but you've had enough kibble today, and I've already been warned against eedingfay the ollstray.
