Enhanced Client: Holy great mother of lag.

Saturday night, my crew (there's like 4 of us. It's a GIANT crew, as you can tell) and I decided to head out to the Ilsh spawn for a few of reasons. First of all, their toons are like rocking 50 magery and eval and stuff. Secondly, they are in desperate need of gold and gear. Third, we thought Ilsh might be a great place to show them the general mechanics of a spawn, before tossing them into the shark infested waters of spawns that will get raided.

Anyway, we walk into the spawn area and are just overwhelmed by lag. I have a fantastic internet connection at home, and everyone who lives in my home rocks a custom built gaming machine, designed by my husband.

Let me put it this way, I'm not talking about a LITTLE lag here, folks. I'm talking about the 'I can't even move my mouse a centimeter' lag. Or the, 'my game has now been frozen for 4 minutes' lag.

We finally get mad and decide to leave because it was impossible to move.

Last night we went to T2A and it was WORSE. This shouldn't even be classified as lag. It was just completely unplayable. I died at one point and it took me a total of 6 minutes to redress. REALLY?

What's with the lag in T2A/Ilsh on the enhanced client. Are all you guys still using the classic version?

I have heard of a few using it, but I'm pretty sure the general population still use the Classic Version. I myself have just opted out for the classic version over the course of 10+ years of playing due to any other version being full of lagg, or corny visuals.

IMO I'd stick with the classic version so you guys can stay competitive.

My wife and I play the EC since we came back in December. We have not had any lag issues in t2a or Ilshenar. What was the latency like when you logged in? Might have been the server and not you. I also have been told recently that ICQ will lag you down a lot. It was recomended to run UO first before running ICQ.

I run ICQ on my iMac, never my gaming machine. As a matter of fact there is nothing on my gaming machine at all but games.

We noticed when we closed our bags and paperdolls the lag eased a SMIDGE but-- for the most part it was ridiculous.

I really like a lot of the options of the EC-- but I agree that in order to stay competitive we may have to run classic.

Also, once we switched to classic DURING our little spawns, the lag was gone. Completely gone.

Are you using a skin or just the default skin that comes with the EC? There are some outdated skins that can cause a lot of lag in game.

Yup, ditch the encumbered client and stick with the classic. I don't know anyone who has successfully used the EC in a raid environment, the spell effects will effectively lock you down.
