the pet calc is an overall indication of how how high the total stats, resists, skills, and abilities are of your pet.
unfortunately it seems to weight all things equal, when that should not be.
there are some things which i look for on pets BEFORE i pay any attention to the pet calculator because they are much more important:
- hitpoints - need to be as high as possible and close to max.
- STR - affects physical melee output, so again you want it to be as high as possible.
- DEX - dex affects swing speed, and more importantly MOVEMENT speed... if you have a pet like a Rune Beetle, you will want HIGHER DEX so the pet can follow very quickly (anyone have a list of all pets who can have higher than 125 dex, post tame?)
- Physical resist - also should be max, or within 1-3 pts of to max. physical is probably the most commonly needed resist in the game.
- Fire resist - the most common and devestating mage attack resists, definitely this should not be too shy of the maximum
- Wrestling skill - because wrestling determines chance to hit, as well as to BE hit (and it affects hence how much damage your pet might take), very high wrestling is HUGE, and very important.
pretty much i just do a check of all those things before i even run the pet calc.
else you could end up with one that looks great on pet calc, but overall is kinda crappy.
