New Quest: Good vs Evil

With this new quest, whether your character gives to Lt. Dan or Lt. Crag, you should only be able to help Good or Evil, not donate to one side, then the other the next day.

I'd be very interested in if and how the two sides differ other than +1,000 or -1,000 karma. Seems like UO is borrowing a lot from the game Dragon Age (Warden title, Stygian Dragon's "Buffet-like" new special ;P), I wonder what else they might borrow ;P (just being silly, I think).

They can borrow from bioware all they want, imo.

As long as we don't get quests involving exploring new lands in a hover tank, new, craftable lightsabers, bows that break of miniscule amounts of the wood they're created by thus causing them to shoot "1000s" of arrows without actual arrows.

This is UO, and the Dev Team hasn't shown that level of competence since they said the outcome of the void demon battle at the Magincia moongate would effect how/if the isle was rebuilt (which I sincerely doubt will hold true, sadly).

Well, one day they had hoped to create loyalty factions (like say you kill 1,000 orcs, etc); at this point, UO has to borrow from other games. It's been like that probably since UO: Ren or even before that, haha. But no, I'm not worried about eating lunch at the west end of Leene Square (extra points for guessing that reference).

But I don't see why they can't tally the total of Good v Evil turn-ins per shard.

The problem with that is two fold.

One- once that truly happens, then futher events would be different for that shard than any other, causing more individualized work.

Two- UO doesn't have a continuity editor to catch things and work them out before events go live.

It terms of the story, it would be much worse than it is now.

I thought it was cool though, how, for example, the Brit Invasion trophies show how each shard performed during battle. Or how they allowed us to destroy the pillar things during the graveyard event (toxic sac things). They've done little things in the past, and some sort of Good v Evil play :).

Eh, a good writer can make thing ambiguous enough that even differences between shards won't mean they need completely different stories.

Take Magincia on GL for example.

Trammel won the event by defeating the void daemons.
Felucca lost the event by allowing them to live. (players were too busy killing each other..)

According to Draconi, two years ago, the facets that won would have the city rebuilt in a far more humble way as New Magincia. Those that lost would be left as ruins and have undead spawn (basically an over ground dungeon).

I don't expect this to be maintained, but I am willing to be pleasantly surprised...

I'll say it again. UO needs a Loremaster to keep the meta fiction on track. The EMs do a great job of keeping track of things, so should Mythic.

It could be much worse, I agree. Doesn't mean we should settle for sub-par fiction and events though. We're paying for a service, we have the right to 'complain' when its poor quality - lest they think its acceptable.

Does anyone really think that evil will win this event. Lets see...Dan is located at Brit Castle, just accross from the last turn-in guy, and just two screens away from Avery, and the other guy is sitting on Fel Cove docks. Yeah its guard zone, but still the majority of players already have runes to where Dan is located and given a choice, the majority of players take the easier of the two options. Might as well have placed Dan at the Luna moongate, and the other guy down on the Island in Despise Fel.

Who said I'm not tracking it? The other NPC?

That's a very broad and rather overreaching statement. Yeah, a 'good writer' (as you put it) can completely ignore previous results and make a storyline that has no basis in what has occured before.

I'd prefer a real story as to one that was fill in the blanks, depending on which shard you were on.

I agree. I'll even volunteer!!! IMO- there needs to be a seperate webpage/site for each shard (example- atlantic.uo.com, seige.uo.com, ect) and on that page is kept all the stories for that shard, both game wide and shard specific with results if it was a dymanic story outcome.

There should be 1 lead story writer (granted, I doubt we'll see 2 new paid positions), the UO Storyteller and 1 UO Loremaster (keeps the shard sites updated).

You're right, even players who play mostly in fel will make their turn ins mostly in Brit. I find that rather ironic and highly amusing.

If they came out with lightsabers in UO I may cry.

That being said they should allow duel wielding Scarst needs to be able to duel wield katanas. Hell I'd take a hit to defense it that's what it took to duel wield as long as the second sword made you either swing a bit faster or you would double hit and the second would do half of the first. For those saying "why not use a regular two handed weapon" it would force two defense/parry checks instead of one. Plus I like to think my character flips out in battle and does crazy attacks. hahaha.

I'd also like to see multi-chromatic clothing like maybe get a shirt with strips or something cause having everyone walk around in single color clothing is kind of eerie. At least give me a bucket hat.
