Thanks to the geniuses at Blizzard that decided it was a good idea to use your email as your login. During my first week my email along with who knows how many others was stolen from an email server and all the accounts, including mine, got hacked. I know there were a large number of accounts hacked Friday night. All of my characters were deleted and replaced with characters with names such as "fklljsd" that were used to spam messages about selling gold online. I woke up this morning and found that my account had been banned for spam abuse. I further learned that there is no phone number that you can call Blizzard with, you have to email them (which I did). The canned response says they will look into it and it may be a long time before you here anything - furthermore, there is no way to get any kind of status on the investigation. Looks like I'm out the $100+ I spent buying the game/expansions and game time! I'd say that apparently Blizzard could care less, but since there is no way for me to talk to them about this I really can't say that for sure.

I'm staying on UO and never leaving again!

Oh but look on the bright side! Blizzard took quick, prompt and irreversibel actions against your account and you will now proudly be displayed in the next "we banned XXX players, we meanz buzinezz" message.

Screw innocents, its all about perception.

This is nothing new, Blizzard just bans left and right, with little regard for the situation or if there's even any wrong doings.

Lost all respect for Blizzard when they banned one of my mule accounts just out of the blue in Diablo 2, the account was brand new and only had 2 level 4 characters on it that stored some gear, I mean really?

why would u quit UO for WoW anyway? WoW is the ultimate carebear game and i hate following the big crowd of 11 million people just to play a game that they say is fun... if anything go the hardcore gaming path and try Darkfall

I get the same emails for a email account I use for junk. I found it funny that they send me them seeing that I have never played WoW. I only use that email for internet when I dont want to use my real email. I also have another account that is only for UO, I never use it for anything else.

That.. is horrible..

I feel extremely bad for those people who spend their life and earnings on that game.. I know they took this hit the hardest.. Even though it's just a video game , those who were seriously emotionally hit by this I feel bad for.

There is a phone number. Hubby's acount got hacked and they made good right away.
It isn't UO or what UO was, but it's playable and Uo no longer is playable

We met in UO 1998. So our hearts will always be there, but I have enjoyed the challenge of making Wow a more UO type playtime. It is possible, you do not have to follow the path of the masses in the game.

And yet, Blizzard, unlike Mythic, will fix your account, restore your items, restore your guild and guild bank, and make everything right. It may take a few days, but they DO fix it.

As far as your email address being your login, it's no different than any other potential login. If your email got hacked, and the hacker knew you played Ultima Online, they'd have your username and password in no time flat, AND Mythic wouldn't do a thing to restore your accounts.

Also, Blizzard does offer the additional protection of an Authenticator. Something many other online games should replicate and use. It adds another layer of security that does not otherwise exist.

I have 2 wow accounts also and they are both on the same e-mail address
You simply get a gump where you have to chose between the old account names after you log in with the email address

Lemme see ... I got them too. First, they were gibberish and not well written. Second, I have a WOW account but it has not gotten beyond the entry point. It has not been used in months. Third, a hyperlink in one of the emails points to a non-Blizzard/non-WOW site.

My take is this was phishing, not legit. Also, to paraphrase a famous movie: I just don't give a damn.

I have never played or had a WoW account, not even on trial, nor have Blizzard ever received my email address.

we all agree the GM help is very poor here

i had an issue with a tile in my castle courtyard that made my client crash

GM could not help

long story short, i PM'd Cal (which he will prob forever regret!) and within a short period of time Supreem popped in and promptly crashed, lol! not just me

i had seen him in and out for a few days, and i am told there is a fix for me in the next publish ( well not just me, apparently it is a known issue that happens from time to time)

so the main men came to help

just this is enough to make me stay long term, not to mention the 2 guilds i am in, idoc and hunting guilds

i dont need 11 million players, i need, and have, friends here

long may it continue

It completely is a scam, if you do a view source, all the URL's in that email are one off's. They tried harder to make them look legit, but there is always one letter/number off on the actual URL and cover it with a correct looking URL that you see.

And by the way, to anyone considering going to WoW. If you want a time sink of epic proportions...then WoW is it. I am not talking about where in UO, you can make a time sink out of the game, where you can submerge yourself but quit if you want to. If you want a game where it takes 27 minutes in one area to get across because Blizzard thinks it's great to have you spend time in the game just traversing the world, or where you get stuck with people you don't like to get further in the game, then by all means, have fun. It is a crack circle, and it isn't a fun game. I had some wonderful friends there, and they were the only reason I stayed for as long as I did. After while though, I realized even for my friends, I just couldn't keep wasting my life and not really enjoying it or getting anything fulfilling out of it.

I played the trial to level 20 and actually had a great time soloing. I have to admit, WoW has the best mounts in the gaming universe hands down (medieval fantasy genre). And flying on the back of a giant bat to travel between destinations was supremely cool.

With that said, I'm done with WoW as I just wanted to see what all the hub-bub was about. I suppose it's as fun as you make it just like any other game.

The game's a blast until you are max level and flying on a bat or griffon for 15-27 minutes gets a bit old. But the thing is, once you group up with people and you are max level, then the pain and the true time sink kicks in.

imo that's a good decision for the wrong reasons. you're actually rewarded for getting hacked these days. you get all your gear/characters back and a cool 2k gold per lvl 80 in lieu of restoring your individual bank contents. my lady made a lot of money from getting hacked given she has 6 or 7 lvl 80s.

I don't play because WoW has adapted the 1st grade style "everyone's a winner, epic drops for all!" mentality since even before burning crusade. there is no need for skill or strategy, just show up and you're guaranteed a prize. that's not what I consider fun.
