if its your only build i would go for this

100 swords
100 tac
100 anat
100 heal
chiv 70
100 parry
100 focus

and see if you can get some 10 ps for swords and parry
you be good to go

if you are on europa i would see what i have for you

While i'm not new to UO, i've just started again on Europa without any items/characters. (To try and re-kindle some enjoyment :) )

My build im aiming for:

120 Mace Fighting
120 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Healing
100 Magic Resist
120 Parry
60 Chiv

I currently have 0 Chiv and 60 Bushido, just trying it out to see if I like it. If I do perhaps i'll drop Magic Resist for Bushido. I'm a long way off the 120 scrolls but its an aim :)

You are a very long way behind the learning curve at this time. You might want to do some reading here on Stratics on the AoS combat system before jumping into anything. Val plate hasn't been top end in quite a number of years.

I remember back in 2000 on Chessy there was a vendor at a log cabin on the north side of Minoc over near the stables. He had the most beautiful set of Valorite plate armor. I wanted that set. It was awesome. I remember saving up forever and I finally bought it. I was the king of the world in that suit. Then I started playing a bard and got some cool red sandals, short pants, a tunic and a straw hat. Then I managed to get a bless deed and some black sandals. Again, I was king of the world. Ahhh.. the good ol' days.

But, back to the topic - I am on chessy and can craft a reasonable facsimile of a decent suit of armor. Just talk to the folks around here and let me know what you need to get started and I will help craft a set for you.

Also, if you need spell books or some other basics, let me know.

The most important thing you will want on armor is resists. You will want to maximize your resists against the damage type the creatures you are fighting. You can find the information on the creatures here: Hunter's Guide. For example, when fighing an earth elemental you will want to have high physical resist, as they ony do physical damage. However, if you are fighting an Air Elemental, they do a mix of physical, cold and energy damage, so you will need to boost them all. Eventually, you will use armor suits that have maximum resists across the board.

Once you get good resists, you can start adding other magical properties to your armor. Good properties for a warrior I have found are (in not particular order): Mana Regen, Stamina Increase, Hit Point Increase, Lower Mana Cost.

The Stats you will need for a beginning warrior is high STR and DEX. Lock your INT around 30, so you have mana to use when you need. You can always adjust this later. Your weapon swing speed is based off increments of 30 stamina (the derived stat of DEX) and the weapon's base speed. Each increment of 30 stamina (30, 60, 90, 120, 150) will decrease the delay between swings by 0.25 seconds, if your stamina is eaqual to or greater than the given increment. You can find information on the various weapons and a calculator on swing delay here: Weapons. STR influences the damage you do and your hitpoints, which are both always good for a warrior. The general rule for weapon skills and swing delay is Fencing < Swordsmanship < Macing (ie Fencing is fastest). There is alot of overlap, and the fastest weapons are usually the lowest damaging ones too.

That should help you get started.

Indeed. DCI, DI, SI, HPI etc. are all important. I just figured this out the hard way! I let my crafter borrow my sampire suit to get an idea of what to make to help Kizzo out. Shortly thereafter, the alarm sounded that Moonglow (Chesapeake) was being invaded! (By Misasmas). So, not wanting to log in and out 100 times, I grabbed a rune beetle carapice, elf fey leggings, mace and shield glasses, storm grip gloves and just whatever else I could find. I grabbed an axe that didn't have HLA or SSI, ran to town and got killed!

Sunday night, I was able to take at least 3 at a time (thats all that every jumped on me at once) with little trouble. It took a while to kill them, but no real stress. Today, one of them took me down with little trouble.

Wrong resists + wrong mods = dead sammy.

Lesson learned. The template is nice, but the right gear (or at least good enough gear) is what makes this work so well.
