Tamer/ Bard Template Questions

Hey, working on a tamer/bard right now FOR PVM.. I have a few questions.. first off: Why Disco over provo.. it seems like it would be alot more beneficial to have monsters beating each other down, than beating your dragon (even if its resists and stats are reduced) ... Second question.. what are some builds possible for both Provo Bard, and Disco Bard. In addition, is it better to just go Tamer/ Mage than tamer bard. Right now I've eaten the following scrolls, 120 tame, Lore, mage, eval, 115 music, provo, peace, and disc, so the template really can go anywhere. Lastly, I've read that spellweaving/mage/ tamers kick alot of arss in pvm .. thoughts on that.. I realize that there probably have been multiple posts on this subject in the past, but I've been looking for a while and have not found my answers. Please help..
again this is only a PVM char

Thanks,
Connor

I have had mage/tamer, prov/tamer, disco/tamer, and peace/tamer. A lot of it is personal preference. Mage/tamer is nice because you have a nice offensive punch should your pet die or you want to help your pet kill quicker. Prov tamer is nice because you can prov other things onto each other and have you pet attack them as well. If something spawns and targets you, you can try and prov it onto something else your pet is fighting. Downside is that if you fail proving one thing onto another it targets you. Disco/tamer is nice because it helps your pet to kill faster to fight a discorded monster and it also helps in taming higher end creatures like greater dragons. They don't hit as hard while lead taming. You didn't ask about peace/tamer but I will throw it in as it is a bard as well. peace tamers are nice because you can peace your target while your pet kills it so your pet doesn't take as much damage but it won't get any training gains while killing a peaced target. I think it works better as a fail safe, your pet is getting low on life or picked up a second mob and you can peace one or both, if a mob targets you then you can peace it until your pet can take it out, and peacing mobs helps with taming aggressive creatures.

Which is best? It is personal choice because each template brings something different to the table. Peace and discord do not affect the stats of a mob if you use them to tame a pet. The only thing that will reduce stats is to para tame a pet using paralyze on it while attempting to tame it. Naturally all pet stats reduce some once tamed but peace and discord have no effect on them while para taming reduces them. I have no clue on the spellweaving/mage/tamer template as I have never tried it. I might give that a try sometime just to see.

I hope this helps some.

You can have both provo and disco on a tamer, which IMHO is a lot more fun than just picking one of the two, but you pretty. much have to use some skill items unless you want to restrict your skill caps for taming/barding skills. The template really depends on what items you have and which pets you'd want to use.

The base "trained" template I run with is:

110 taming
110 lore
100 vet
110 music
120 disco
90 provo
80 magery

I have items to boost taming skill if I want to tame a higher end pet, but it's capped at 110 when I'm hunting.

Bard skills - I wear song woven mantle arms to get 120 music, the disco skill at 120 just saves me having to swap any jewels around if I want to disco then provo the same critters. Provo I run at 90 but carry +30 in items if I'm working with harder spawn.

Magery I have a +15 normal spellbook if I need it, I just use it to heal and invis myself.

Provoke only helps where there are other beasties around. good for DF but not for the other rooms or peerless...

Disco is always helpful, benefits others and lends itself to a tamer build, where as i think of provoke as pure bard/bard mage...

If you can provoke, why bother with a pet at all?

Why provoke a nasty onto another nasty when you can provoke it onto your Beefed up GD and then disco the baddy? I think one will result in a quicker and cleaner death...

provo is good but is useful in less situations.
whe it is useful, it shines :)
