Warning - Doors on your house can cause suspension.

Just a warning for those of you who play UO.....you may either want to set your house to private OR as the customer servce rep told me DELETE your doors!!!!!!

WHY?? You might be suspended if you don't delete your doors especially if people are trying to harass you and they let cus go wild inside your home in an effort to kill you as you log on.

Yep you read that right. Someone released cus in my house to kill me when I logged on (which I haven't logged on in days as acknowledged by the EA customer service rep) but I GOT SUSPENDED for having an illegal house design that "trapped" the cus in my home. This means I had DOORS on my house - heaven forbid. When I spoke to the customer service guy about how I was supposed to make my house legal so that I don't get suspended anymore, he came to the conclusion that (after he told me he had no idea what UO was or what is about and told me there were c-u's in my house) I should either make it so no one can enter my house to harass me or that I would have to have a house with no doors so that if they came back with this c-u monster, then the monster could escape on his own. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?

As soon as my 24 hour ban is up, I'll log on and take the doors off my house. I suppose it's better to have no doors than no game. =(

Well, you made somone mad, and they took advantage of the fact that you set your doors for anyone. Bad move.

Even when I have a public house for vendors, my doors are not accessible, except to friends. And if a friend pulled a shot like that, then we'd have real life issues to resolve.

The EA rep was sitting in a catch-22 position. You had the cu's in your house....possesion is 9/10th's of the law. Unfortunately, you were found to be in the wrong. Like the man finding weed in your car. It's not yours but guess what, the car is.

Now as far as having a house that's considered a trap for animals, the CS rep explained his way out the best he could, even if it made him/her, look like an idiot for what????...5 minutes.

Set your houses accordingly, then find the knuclehead that jerked you over and make their life hell.

Mariam, I am really sorry to hear about this. And yes, Tek, a castle owner can get banned, a friend of mine got a 24 hour for some animal in his KEEP. No way to remove the doors on those.

This has to be on of the saddest damn things I have ever read about a GM, ban for an animal in your house. And God forbid, those NPC's that can open doors, like Healers.

Sadly, the GM's and EA reps mostly do not play UO or even know what it is, past the fact that they "support" it. (Iknow Cal and Messena play and a few others) It is like the GM are compensated for getting rid of players, then they will not have to "support" UO any more. :( (end rant!)

How long would the refs in footbal last, if they had no idea how the game was played and were reading off little que cards, to make calls?

This is why people who work for a game should know how the game works.

IE: It's not PvE. It's PvM.

Bless the developers who actually like and play UO. Thank you to the GMs and service reps who play and understand UO.

**** off to the developers who develop UO but don't play. **** you to the GMs and service reps who don't play UO. YOU are what's ruining UO.

One thing to note here is that someone would have had to brought a TAMED Cu into the house and then released it, since wild animals/monsters can nolonger get past the steps.

If you hadn't been on in days, and since mobs decay in about 2-3 hours if undamaged... Someone set you up and abused the system to get you in trouble.

Challenge this with CS and/or Cal. Rules applied with stupidity make everyone look bad.

Are Cu's even aggressive? I did not think they attacked unless they were attacked or you tried to tame them.

PRECISELY!!!! I've called and tried to tell them EXACTLY that - that the person who put them in my house could EASILY have been the same one to page on me. But they did not understand that because they don't play. He just said, "Well it's sad that you go suspended for something someone else did." SAD?? REALLY??? IT SUCKS but yeah.....stupid stupid rules.....

Can someone not tell who tamed and released the Cu's?

Is this something Dev's or GM's can tell?

If they weren't Owned by anyone on that account then you shouldn't get in trouble.

But you know this comes from people who illegally train skills in their house using tamed or released pets.

Sad but true, I've had this happen too. I got a 24 hour ban because someone else had put animals in my house while I was logged out. I came back and I was banned for 24 hours.
Now heres something else, the GM changed certain design aspects of my house, which made my teleporters accessible to anyone. I didnt know that and I'm sitting in my house after my ban, training imbuing and 2 stealth archers get in my house and wack me before I could kick them out.

And before that, as a joke I had a friend fill my entire castle with polar bears. I mean, they were everywhere. I log in on my red and got attacked, but killed most right away. Point being, if someone else had come by and paged, I would've been banned for this joke too.

Sucks that you get banned for someone else's actions. =( Maybe they need to get rid of the rules regarding animals in houses. I know so many ppl who have been banned for this and it was never any of their own doing.

To work my discord I tame and release Cu's. But I do it in the open. On my second account I just have my herder target the release cu and tell it to follow him. It just stay there and even if they stack on each other, I just pull out their health bars for targeting.

Thats about as useful as herding gets outside of a roleplaying perspective or just trying to annoy people. :p -.-

Its rather silly that people are being banned for others griefing them. Guess its good that my house is set to private, but for those who want a public house why should they be punished?

Hopefully the devs see this. Either make it so pets can't be released inside houses, or ignore the fact that pets can get trapped in them.

Honestly, with the player base the way it is, I don't think EA should be suspending/banning anyone for poor ingame mechanics unless they actually catch the person abusing them.

You would think that they would be able to tell if any of those animals were tamed on your accts, or what accts they were tamed on. I am so sorry to hear you were banned for someone elses actions. I am not sure what I would be doing in your shoes, other than going through withdrawals.

Can you explain in more detail?

Questions I have about this:

Was your character red, on Siege or Mugen shard, or under the effects of negative karma, EG someone which cu's would attack?

If not red and not on Siege or Mugen, which facet was the character's house located on?

Was your house a securely designed customized house design, with your own characters placed in a position where no characters except the owning account's had access to? If your house is securely designed aggressive non-player monsters or animals should not be able to reach you.

Was there any evidence that the person who released the cu's was doing this continuously and on the day which you logged in?

Was the character who got attacked in a guild?

I have always had my castle open to the public for players to use dye tubs forges etc, and today I set my castle to private after reading this. Its just sad that a griefer wins when a simple fix could of been put in. House owner or not anyone who releases a pet in a house. That released pet should automaticly gets rejected out of the house.

Wow, I am in shock atm trying to get my head around this.. Today In my house a polar bear walked right in. and on another day I had a healer inside walking around. they seem to have no problem walking onto my steps from inside the courtyard. this leaves me feeling powerless to not have some hater have me banned.

****** No I was not red, not on Siege or Mugen, not under negative karma. No one was attacked. I was banned because I had a cu stuck in my house.

If not red and not on Siege or Mugen, which facet was the character's house located on?
****** I play Atlantic.

Was your house a securely designed customized house design, with your own characters placed in a position where no characters except the owning account's had access to? If your house is securely designed aggressive non-player monsters or animals should not be able to reach you.
****** My house is a customized 18 * 18 that I bought a few months ago and have yet to redesign. I would say it's been the exact same design for at least 2 years. The only other person to have ultimate access to my house (co owner) is my husband who was also asleep last night. No monster reached me as I was not logged in. Actually haven't been logged in for a few days.

Was there any evidence that the person who released the cu's was doing this continuously and on the day which you logged in?
****** No clue when they did this as I don't log in regularly and had only played the "event" last week. I NEVER logged in when the cu was in my house.

Was the character who got attacked in a guild?

******* No one was attacked. I was suspended for having a cu in my house.

My second account got a 24 hour for the way two doors were placed. Granted they could trap you but my neighbors house did the same and he just happened to be around when the GM was "fixing" the two houses and he didn't get the suspension.

Far from a expliot as I just happen to own a old house at yew gate, sigh.

Quite scary to know that the powers that be can be so easily persuaded to take action on stoooopid stuff like this, but scripters and hackers get to run free.

Wow.

I coulda been suspended a lot of times then. One of the houses I had on atlantic had a fenced in "stable" area, I used to aggro on horses and cows and sheep and stuff, get em to follow me in there, close the gate, and "leave house".

Was quite cool to have my own petting zoo...
Seems imagination is gonna have to be a thing of the past, as we make way for new griefing tactics.

That sucks. I could see it if you had pens set-up in your house and the cus were in the pens, otherwise I would have guessed they would have had to see you actually using the Cus to work skill gains. People play pranks on their friends in UO all the time such as filling their house full of cats and dogs or other pets and probably never thought that it could get their friend banned.

I thought GMs could identify who last tamed a pet or who owned it? If everything did indeed happen as you've explained then that's just downright idiotic for you to receive a ban. Make sure you use the GM review process.

Am I missing something here?

First - Animal in house, you get banned? Since when was that illegal..

Secondly - Remove your doors? How do you do that on a classic house, for a start, and if doors are illegal in a house why can you place them?

Obviously the customer service has no clue. Complain to EA. Maybe if someone releases Cus in more houses, everyone will get banned and someone at EA will realise something is up when nobody can log in (and then, the next day, everyone removes their doors)

It has been reported in the past about people getting suspensions because they had pets in their houses, usually in pens for bard training. They would either get a suspenion due to having a illegal house design (pens) or for having pets in the pens being used for skill gains. Most likely in the first case, someone paged because there were animals in the house and by the time the GM arrived the animals were gone so they got them for having the pens. There is some rule about blocking free movement blah, blah, blah. Now it would seem that they don't care if you have pens in your house or using the pets inside your house for skill gains, your still going to get an infraction for having wild animals in your house. Unless the OP forgot to mention that they had pens in their house.

You would think the logical thing to do if you were a GM and someone paged about a house having multiple animals would be to (A) see if they are being held in pens, (B) see if someone is there working a skill. If the animals are running loose in the house and the house is public and no one is around, then just release the animals or kill them. If they're locked inside pens and someone is using them for skill gains then either give them a warning to release the animals and remove the pens or face possible suspensions. If they don't reply then bust them for afk macroing.

I have a issue with this. I have a house on Napa at yew gate that at one time had doors set to trap people. Everyone one the shard could see them and everyone was aware of them. EA allowed the houses placed close enough that you can efield a person in, whats the diff with a door that is plainly there. Months went by as my house and many others traped every faction with many players(myself included and more then once by guildmates and my very own house) and out of the blue I get a suspension and my house had a gapping hole in it for 24 hours. No message, no contact, no "we(I)'ve found this annoying enough that you have to change it just a 24 hour vacation. Not even a follow up email ever came.

I fail to see what is wrong with doors and blocking, it's only fel ya know.

I think it is because of the vets like me that caused this problem. We used to trap polar bears in our house to train parry as an example. Origin had to take a stance on us in regard to our actions. Some people would trap healers in their house.

I'm sorry you were banned for our transgressions of years past.

You know, it's increasingly clear they don't 'train' them at all in any meaningful sense, that's the whole problem. They repeatedly shove unskilled people into a situation and ignore the protests of upset customers instead of expending the time and effort to properly train the staff.

Classic EA attitude to customer service, it's never 'do the job right' but always 'do the job as cheaply as we can get away with'.

Well to be fair, look how much stuff there is to know in UO. Doesn't really take much to get wires crossed if you are unfamiliar with things. However, should be some type of oversight to prevent issues like this from festering...

They even ignore the MULTIPLE pages on two VERY obvious scripters who walk in erratic circles around Luna proper every XX minutes.

Can you say, "Inconsistent enforcement of the ToS"? I thought you could!

That EA is avoiding it. Why? Because their pride is so big that they won't admit when they're in the wrong.

Nope... I have a castle and when monsters spawn in the inner court yard, the game kicks them out to the sign as soon as they aggro on me. So there is a mecanism set up to avoid trapping monsters in there it seems :)

Come to think of it, it also kicks healers out that spawns there, so Iam not sure what triggers it, but everytime I log on some monster or healer will be kicked to the house sign after a few secs.
