Template Help

I have been running a Disco/Tamer for over a month and it is going very well. Except for Discord which is very hard for me to raise.

Taming 90
Vet 86
Lore 106
Magic 87
Music 100
Dosco 59

Want to see if there is a more effective template I can use to do dungeons like doom. All Jeweled up I went there with a Greater Dragon and go my head handed to me. Pretty much send pet to attack, invis, wait, heal pet as needed, loot. Repeat. Died at least 10 times.

Thinking about Stoning Music and Disco and adding more skills that I can actually use...until I get Disco raised a lot.

What is a good template for me to use if I drop Music and Disco?

Thinking about:
Med, Eval, Stealing for rares or
Med, Eval, Resist or
Maybe someone has a better idea?

Thanks for the help.

Doom can be tough for any lone tamer. What are you training your Discord on? Are you using a normal instrument (purchased from an NPC)? You want to be Discording creatures that you have roughly 50% chance of success. Use the Barding Calculator to find the information out. You will want to lock your Music at 100, while you train. This will let you train Discord on "easier" monsters.

Alternatively, you can let your Music go past 100, so you need to use tougher monsters. This way will give your dragon an opportunity to kill stuff and train as well. Is your dragon fully trained? If it isn't you will need to train his skills further.

Discord is a very powerful skill to have as a tamer, I suggest you stick with it. You will see the benefits of it once you get it higher.

One thing to also note is that the majority the monsters in Doom deal cold damage (either when they hit and/or through Necromancy). Cold resist is the lowest resist for a Greater Dragon. You can use the Hunter's Guide to best match up your pet's strengths and weaknesses to its foes.

Well the sooner you train disco the less skill points you'll have on the rest of your template and the faster your gains. So I'd say stick with disco and look over at the bard forum for Poo's training guide. At that skill level you shouldn't be having any trouble getting steady gains, so it might be a problem that can be fixed without soulstones :)

I'd advise you to try more modest spawns while you're training - Doom is a challenge for a trained template, so it will be hard for you at this stage because you're far from fully trained - I think you're expecting too much of your tamer at this stage. The good news is that you have plenty of time to take on Doom, so I'd suggest you hunt spawns better suited to your skill level and focus on training yourself and your pets. You might even want to take time looking for good quality pets at this stage, but don't feel that you have to rush into Doom/Peerless hunting. There's much more to taming than bosses!

The way I trained my disco was to work on the easiest critters by myself, then instead of using skill items to boost my taming skill for control, I used bake kitsune as my pets and boosted up my disco skill instead. That let me hunt normally and get good disco gains as I went, rather than training disco on its own. If you work that way it shouldn't take you long to reach 120 disco with an item boost, which gives you the full use of that skill for hunting. Then you should start to have much more fun with your tamer :)

Thanks for all the responses! I have been training my dragon on the dragons in Despise. Does pretty good there but I hang around the entrance mostly. But when I do that I cant practice Discord so I have been taming Bulls/Gamans and discording them as I go. Been wanting to try the Dojo and figure out how to do Honor taming. Is that a good spot? Here is what I was thinking for an alternate template:

From Surfing the web:

Tamer/Weaver

Animal taming, Animal Lore, Magery, Spellweaving, Spirit Speak, Necromancy, Meditation

This template is ideal for Champion Spawns and Peerless bosses because it has strong pet healing, word of death, essence of wind and wither for area of effect mana draining. Use magery's Greater Healing spell to keep your pet alive with spell weaving's gift of renewal spell added in for extra power. You do not want to get close to most champions and peerless monsters so veterinary is only useful for resurrecting your pet if it dies. Use Gift of Life instead and you can leave your veterinary skill on a soul stone. When your champion or peerless boss is low on life, transform into wraith form and cast the word of death spell and get all your mana back from drains.

or

Stealth/Tamer

Animal taming, Animal Lore, Magery, Veterinary, Stealth, Hiding, Meditation

The stealth tamer creeps along with his pet deep into champion spawns, letting monsters target his greater dragon. If the champion spawn gets raided, he sneaks away to fight another day. This type of tamer can get deep into dungeons, summon up his pet and be ready for action. By swapping out meditation or veterinary, this type of tamer could also use the stealing skill to pick up rares like the academic books in Bedlam or doom artifacts

Be careful with the two builds you posted.

First the stealth tamer is probably leaning more toward a PvP build than a true PvM build.

The Tamer/Weaver is a great PvM build but on the downside you need Level 6 focus for it to really shine, and depending on your play times it could be difficult to obtain one.

Really if you're looking for a good soloing tamer build stick with you disco tamer. Disco is a pain to raise, I know I am also doing a disco tamer on my second account now to play with my mage tamer, and disco makes me want to pay Poo monies to raise it for me. :sad3::thumbup1::stretcher:

But in the end I know it will be totally worth it to have both of my tamers with 4.3 star dragons and disco!

Disco is definitely a skill that is a pita to raise, but many agree is more than worth it once you get there.

Ok, don't waste time discoing bulls, I'm pretty sure their barding difficulty makes them too easy for you. Gaman are ok though. Saying that though, if you're training disco while you train taming that's probably what accounts for your slow gains. You have the skill use timers for taming and for disco making life awkward with that setup. I'd recommend that you spend a little time just working disco without your pets, at least until it's level with your taming and the gains start to slowdown.

This is a different method from Poo's, but I started off by going to the champ at Spirituality and from memory I worked the shadow wisps, then pixies and then normal wisps. Wisp dungeon is naturally a good spot to get wisps when you move on to those, if you don't want to work the spawn up solo. By that point I think my disco was around the 80+ mark after a few disco sessions. I had the jewels to boost it up and my subsequent training was either hunting with pets or disco taming cu sidhe when I got my taming skill up.

Also, don't forget that your musical instrument quality will influence your success/gain rates with barding. You've probably noted that from the bard FAQs, but if not I'd recommend you read all that stuff and learn which instruments to use. Sometimes changing from exceptional to non exceptional will help you get gains on an easier critter for example, or you can use exceptional or slayer instruments to tackle higher skilled monsters.

The succubus is pretty popular for boosting honor, just watch the area attacks they do.

Those templates would work, but I wouldn't say they're better than what you have. Just different. If you're really sure you want to change, go to test centre for a week or so and really give the templates you fancy a proper play, so you get time to learn how to play them effectively too. I could tell you what to do, but I don't know your playstyle or where you'd be likely to hunt etc. Try your disco template on test centre too for a fair comparison :)

Don't drop music and disco, like wenchy says, tailor it to work better.

I'd raise taming and mage to 100 for decent control, and heals without jewels.
Raise your med up to use your extra points so you can spam greater heals and other spells like invis, which is a no.1 lifesaver!

try something other than a g-dragon to free up your jewels - like a hiryu, or a couple of bake kitsune and just hammer places like the fan dancer dojo against fan dancers, demons, succubus... doing this will raise your vet and disco skills whilst earning you money and getting you used to controling things better and staying alive! If you learn on smaller pets, you'll find it much easier to move to a g-dragon. Hell, you could even use a rune beetle and a mare at 100 and they rock!

unless your ina group don't worry too much about doom - just persist and use jewels to make disco work for you )

stealth tamers and spellweaving tamers are great - but you'll have to train those skills up just the same! You may find yourself here ina few weeks otherwise upset with your weaving/stealth option!

To me i'd recomend persisting with what you've got - it's a slow template to train but well worth it! just include some med and bolster your main fundamental skills (tame/mage/vet) and the others will follow...

Thanks again for the advice. I am going to persist with Music and Dscord...guess it is just going to be a grind and I need to look for some Disco jewely if I want to use it against harder mobs. Think I will check out the Dojo..I have a couple of the bonded 3-tailed puppies I can take with me also. Thinking I like using bandages on my pets to much to give vetenary up for the spell weaving template. Plus, like what was said I need to learn more.

I think I did pixies & wisps from 85 up to about 97 or 98.

After that I jeweled up & discorded the Cu Side.

At an average of one hour a night (not including the days & weeks that I couldn't log on at all) it took me about one year to get to 120 real.

It was a long & boring process for 80% of the time but it really is a most useful skill to have.

Now when I die I can't blame it on lack of skills but rather on the lack of my skill at using said skills :)

On Edit: Now that I think about it, I may have stopped pixies at 94-95 then jeweled up and moved on to Cu Sidhe.
