Melee Mage?

So I'm not sure if this should go in the Warrior area or the Spellcaster...so I flipped a coin and here I am.

I'm looking to add a melee skill to my garg mage. Needed skills / suit stuff that I know about:

Skills:
Magery
Eval Int
Med
Mystic
Focus

Suit:
All 70s
100 LRC
Some MR, LMC

This leaves a bit of room to play with. I don't think I'm going to be using specials on weapons. I figured on imbuing a weapon with lots of SSI (lack of DEX) mana or stamina leech, HCI, Hit Lightning and spell channeling. Shield will have spell channeling and DCI. With that I'd obviously need a weapon skill. Or, I could drop HCI for Mage Weapon and get HCI somewhere else.

I need help fine tuning things. I know it's not the most viable setup. I don't plan on soloing champs or anything. This is more for group fights and RP.

I am working on a similar template and yes it should go in the Mage forum, but here it is. My char however is human.

Magery
Focus
Eval
Myst
Anat
Resist

Use a sc mage weapon and you can use enchant to put a hit spell effect on it.

You can also run without a weapon because of the wrestle block formula (eval+anat/2 +20) and use slayer books on the whim.

I'm fairly sure Enchant adds Spell Channel as well as the Hit Spell.

Edit: Yep, Enchant does Spell Channel -1 FC & up to 60 Hit Spell.

To be decided by you based on your playstyle.

Med and Focus is overkill. Since you need Focus for Myst, 120 Focus with decent amount of MR on suit is pretty much equivalent to 100 med. Only difference being you can't actively click meditate and regain super fast, but your at-resting rate will be around the same. I tried on TC and had no mana probs after giving up med.

Recover the pts and put into Anat, Weapon, Tactics... whatever you need depending on playstyle

This would prob get better responses in the mage forum.

Why do you want a melee weapon skill? Especially since you're already gargoyle, Bladeweaving seems a more natural choice. Supplemental damage and hide behind the Rising Colossus.

The "get hit less in melee" bonus from the weapon skill works just as well for a ranged weapon skill. And there's no way you're actually going to engage in melee combat without tactics or anatomy or necromancy or chivalry. You're going to have to avoid melee combat anyway, so no reason not to get Throwing.

Besides, your spells will get interrupted 50% of the time in melee combat.
