Regarding Connor's Sampire template

I was watching a YouTube video last night and it got me thinking about Connor's famous Sampire template (no disrespect to Link tho, his is great too). If I have my notes right, Connor uses the following basic template:

120 Swords
120 Bushido
120 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Healing
100 Necro
60 Chiv

The YouTube video I referred to above, shows a Sampire in Wraith form owning Grizzle singlehandedly - and she does this using EoO, LS and Curse Weapon exclusively, which got me thinking about her template vs Connor's.

Here's my question (for Connor or anybody who knows): Since Curse Weapon uses Spirit Speak to determine it's "longivity" and since Connor's template uses no SS, does Connor not use the this spell and instead uses Healing ? I was pretty impressed by the way this Sammy handled Grizzle....

I don't think connor uses healing really either - that tended to be lynk>?

I think a lot of people swap in and out skills using stones so what they use varies often.
Adding to this, the above fighter is a wraith-samurai who has low necro, but high SS for curse weap. Both connor and lynk and most other sampires don't run with SS other than for specific fights as we can leech enough from vamp form, also using curse weap lowers your karma making Chiv spells less effective.

TBH it just depends - do you want to be a bushido vampire, or a necro with bushido? I have both, and consider my bushido vampire more resilient and business like, but my necro with bushido more... fun and rolpeplayish even as you can animate dead etc etc. just different playstyles and both effective at slightly different things.

However, there are a shedload of posts all about this, almost too many? Just read through them!

As an aside, there are tons of different vamps here, all using their own brand and (usually effective) flavour or necro-warrior (usually with bushido) and i wouldn't rely just on the templates of two of them!

Have a feel round for what you like!

I find it hard to let go of healing as i like to be able to res/cross heal etc etc, but SS is jolly nice ^^

Don't forget finally JOAT gives you like 3 or 4 seconds of curse weaponif you need a boost!

Now I am confused. According to Stratics Necro skill page http://uo.stratics.com/content/guides/necromancy1.shtml

Temporarily imbues a weapon with a life draining effect. Half the damage that the weapon inflicts is added to the necromancer's health. The effects lasts for (Spirit Speak skill level / 75) + 1 seconds.

how in the world can JOAT give 3 to 4 seconds of Curse Weapon?

You have to remember that the skill levels are always the (dispayed skill * 10)

So with 20 (JOAT) spirit speak, the effect lasts for 200/75 + 1 = 3.67 seconds.

No, just judge it by whatever looks reasonable. 1 second for GM SS would not be reasonable

and always double check with UOguide

Connor's template is built for flexibility. The 100 anatomy can be temporaily replaced with 100 resist or 100 SS. The resist is good with necro casters (to avoid blood oath). SS has its purposes as well. I suspect the video you watched was similar to Connor's build with SS instead of anatomy.

After looking back at the Stratics entry for Curse Weapon is says:

The effects lasts for (Spirit Speak skill level / 75) + 1 seconds.

which would mean that the spell would only last for 1 second IF you had no Spirit Speak. I just assumed that since Spirit Speak was so "highly involved" that it was one of those spells that just really needed a bit (or a lot) of SS to be effective (you know, like Karma effects the length of OoO). I just didn't question it, and had no reason to think that it was "unreasonable"....

Regarding double/checking with UOGuide, I have mixed feelings about that. I DO use UOGuide on a regular basis, and often consult both Stratics and UOGuide for differences. I have also recently read a couple of lengthy threads here that spoke about how UOGuide simply "ripp'd off" stuff from Stratics, while others argued. (I don't want this thread to turn into that again tho').

What bothers me most, I guess, is that there doesn't seem to be anybody at Stratics that is overly concerned with keeping it "up to date" and "correct", although I'm sure I can count on many jumping in here to chastise me for the critism. I know it's hard to do, so please hold the flames.
