MALAS IDOC - With a slight difference

Europa folk,

An IDOC with a slight difference, everyone has an equal chance of scoring some loot:

I have an 18x18 in Malas (just north of Luna) loaded full of Chests.

I plan to drop the plot at 21:00 UK time on Monday 12th April, allowing whoever is close by to claim the contents. Each Chest hold a minimum of 500 stones, so you can only hold 1 chest at a time (to stop the "professional" IDOC'rs taking all!)

There are approx 150 chests, of which half contain something worth looting. As previously mentioned, everyone can only loot 1 chest at a time due to the weight, giving the first time IDOC'rs a fair chance.

The chests are spread equally amongst the plot, so no North / West wall favouritism!

Contained in the chests are:

Numerous 1,000,000 cheques
Blaze of Death
41 uses Shadow Pigments of Tok
1 complete BRK
1 x Ring of Vile (not cursed)
Vet rewards
Hertitage Tokens
Soul Frags
Minor Arties
Vet rewards
Rubble
Rares (nothing too flash, Pre AOS stuff)
and more

There is nothing of SUPER Value, I would say the best items are the Pigments, the BRK and the cheques. However it's all free so why not take a wander over at 21:00 on Monday

This is a good idea, and I salute you for trying to do something fun and fair in game... I would add though that on top of the pack-horse problem (and I admit, for 1 million checks I'd bring pack horses myself!) which will be compounded by dedicated IDOCers having the pack creatures already bonded for fast recalling... that you also run the risk of them also just manually searching the chests directly for the good stuff on site (either by mouse over looking for obvious sets of stuff, or by opening the chests, or even scripting for the targets you've listed). Thus I'd recommend Locking them too, so they can't be opened on site, and inserting as many individual items in as possible to at least prevent them going straight into the dedicated IDOC storage back home, at least not without eating up their lock downs too. Make it a real pain to have to deal with many chests... I think those with resources will still come out on top, but the slower they can collect, the better it is for those new to a house collapse.

Very nice idea!

Pain in the neck to set up, but the only way I can think of to stop mass looting of multiple chests is item number, not weight ... putting, say, 100 items per box gives people the ability to maybe carry one if they have an almost empty pack, and each pack animal would also be able to take only one.

Thanks for the advice.

I did think of going heavier than 500 stones, but it will mean that people attending MUST have a packy or two. I suppose anyone can buy one at Luna if they need. I really don't have the time to place 100 differnt items in each box, it'll take forever!!

So, I'll up the contents to a minimum of 1000 stones per box, and advise everyone to bring a packy!!

I could lock the boxes, but new UO players won't be able to open the boxes (imagine their disappointment when they find the box useless)


Trev - just for you I'll throw in some holiday bells and a scattering of "exceptional" items.

R Traveler - Cruel, but I like it!

I've included more 1,000,000 cheques a couple more bottles of tok dyes (with some uses).


I just hope that people play fair and it's not ruined by the script kiddies (you know who you are!).

Regarding placing 100 items into each box, does it still work that crafted items are placed into the bag/box with the tool/resources? If so, 100 tinker tools should sort out the little problem of people legging it with scores of boxes!

Sad to hear about people thinking of popping Harbingers... it's not a Luna plot, where you might expect a bit of intense competitiveness... just a bit of unselfish fun someone was planning. Shame on whoever was thinking of griefing it.

Please could all posters let me know if they are happy with this, would you rather let the Harbringers be part of the "Event"?

If not, I can hold the drop until they have been disposed of.

If the drop time does change by 5/10 minutes, I will let EVERYONE know at the idoc location.


Adol - Good idea, and I think it would work, however I don't have time at the moment to knock up 150,000 tinker items. But I will take it into consideration for the next one (depending on how this goes)

Although nice of you to not drop until the Harbingers are killed, It doesn't stop anyone dropping a Harby as soon as the plot does drop, At the worst time too, When the pack horses are full of chests.

Well that went partially well.

Amazed at the turn out, but disappointed that someone took it on themselves to place. Even worse, the placer said he couldn't see what the problem was as there are IDOCS every day, and he was placing as a friend wanted the plot (odd how it's now in decay). Seems he didn't get the idea of what I was trying to achieve.

Anyhow hope some of you got something worthwhile.

I will be doing another in a week or so, but this time I may "resize my plot" rather than just drop it.

The next will be in Tram ... somewhere!

I didn't want to keep the plot, but spent some time placing the chests evenly so everyone had a good change of grabbing something. The moment the plot was placed on, ALL the dropped chests on the floor flew to the bottom left corner of the newly placed plot

I know placing was an old IDOC'rs trick (used it myself many times), but I was hoping that everyone had a fair chance of looting.

Oh well, lesson learnt, next one will be different.
