I just twinked my Bard/Tamer enough to tame a regular dragon (85 Taming +26 with jewelry). I am very low on funds and was wondering where a good spot is to get a lot of gold using this pet?

(85 Taming +26 with jewelry).
The way you worded this is a little ambiguous, you could either mean:

+26 jewelry + 59 taming = 85 taming
85 taming + 26 jewelry = 111 taming

If it's the latter, that's plenty to attempt taming and controlling a GREATER dragon, given the proper level of Animal Lore of course....

When you go to tame, toss on the birds of britannia +5 taming/lore talisman to have a little better chance. Then go back to your regular talisman after.

If all you want is gold the elder gazers in level 4 Shame is a good spot to get gold with a lesser dragon. I don't know if that cave near Trinsic is still a good place to get gold, but I know it used to be THE spot for gold farming. Can't remember the name of it though. It's on the north side of the river west of trinsic and you just follow the river west to the mountains and it is right there.

If taming IS at 111 and you have 110 lore you'll have a 99% control chance. I like to advise people with lower than legenday tame and lore to be careful with your Greater Dragons when commanding them. Make sure they remain 'wonderfully happy', as when they start dropping below it over commanding, as I have seen many do, runs a very high risk of your dragon's happiness dropping rapidly and them becoming wild again. If they have started to drop try and feed without commanding and then repeat your command *smiles*.

I currently have:

Taming 86 + 26 Jewelery = 112 total taming.
Animal Lore 88 + 26 Jewelery = 114 lore.

I don't have any talismans yet. Do you know where I can get them? I will try Shame L4 and see how it goes!

112 taming and 114 lore is more than enough to upgrade to a greater dragon. as miss ghosty said all you need is 110/110 for control purposes.

i found my talisman in housing for a mil. i think it's one of those reward turn in quests otherwise. it's probably faster timewise just to get a mil and buy one in housing.

llewen is thinking of the painted caves and they are still very good. a greater dragon can practically solo in there and you will spend most your time looting bodies, sorting items to unravel, and sending gold/bandages to your bank box with your bag of sending! as a bonus, its a great place to train your greater dragon as well as farm karma and fame. if you're in there for a while and you kill a few Lurg's you'll go to Lord/Lady.

though if you upgrade to a greater, a whole new world opens up of other things you can do. swoop, miasma, champ spawn farming for pinkies, etc...

You must be thinking of the Painted Caves, where Lurg and Grobu hang out and watch Flintstones cartoons all day, unless they're interrupted by pesky adventurers. :)

First thing you want to do with your dragon is train it, and if you do that through actual hunting you'll get the gold and your dragon will cope with tougher spawns more easily. Look at the pet training guide stickied on this forum and if you try to stick to casting monsters your dragon will gain resist at the same time.

My favourite dragon hunt is blood eles, Shame being the easiest spawn to start on as you don't have paragons spawning. Fan dancers in the dojo are another spot I quite like as they're never camped when I go in.

You may also want to find another pet to come along with you, nightmares being the obvious choice as that gives you the ability to be mounted with your dragon. It's handy to have a mount when you're learning the ropes, and a nightmare will speed up your kills.

Also, at your skill level I'd suggest you stable a pair of kitsune. You don't need to use skill items if you have 85 or more in more and taming, and you can ride a 1 slot pet/ethy alongside them. That gives you a selection of pets to hunt with.

I have to say it's refreshing to hear someone using a normal dragon and not following the zombie masses and getting a greater. To hear some tamers you'd think we were all incapacitated before greater dragons spawned heheh.

Hear! Hear! I'm in the process of training myself a regular to dragon to switch out with my beetle when the beetle is a bad choice. I ran with a dragon before greater dragons and I used to get a lot of laughs and mocks, until the dragon ate them. I loved that dragon but I sold it when greater dragons came along because I didn't have the stable space, but now that we have a lot more stable slots, I'm happy to be training myself another old school dragon. :D
