Hiya all!! I know it is generally considered not done to tell on IDOCs on the forum, but this case is such a waste if it falls so I am hoping to get not too many frowns. I am living next door to Vinyamar, I think the main building of the Shadow Court of Truth? The owner is Muldran Scully, a name I have seen here on the forum but sadly don't know the person...
Anyway, been living next door for quite a few years, and NEVER realised until a few weeks ago that it contains SUCH a wonderful library! I was enlightened thanks to a lovely lady by the name of Roxanne who is building an own library north of Minoc (The Reading Room, lovely place!), and asked if I knew of a library in the area. Just pointed at the old big building next door and indeed there it was. All sorts of books, player written and official, are organised in bags in bookshelves, hundreds n hundreds.
It would be a big BIG shame if this goes lost... So I HOPE someone can contact Muldran to prevent that happening... Or else that someone has enough lockdowns to save all that knowledge.

Special mention to Crest Lavender, there may be information you want to read for your LOVELY project, but if it cant be saved you will have to hurry!! The current state of the building is Greatly Worn...

Okay - account is now active, and Muldran's wandered into the Library. This morning, it is showing as 'Greatly Worn' and 'condemned' - I'm assuming the condemned status disappears after the housing server has caught up with the billing server?

Certainly should do, that's what happened with one of mine that I accidentally let slip into the decay cycle. However, this is UO we are talking about, so I'd be inclined to check tomorrow morning and start trying to page a GM if it's still decaying.

If your house reaches the "In Danger Of Collapsing" stage it will not refresh and will have to be transferred to another account to keep it from falling within a few hours. As far as I know, paging a GM will not help that late in the decay cycle, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully, yours will refresh when it is greatly worn. You'll just need to keep a close eye on it.

Well done and thanks to all involved people, esp. Tabby to start the rescue - now
to the next step finding a solution

Seems there are multiple people offering their help in holding the house or the
library. I have to admit, after taking a closer look at the whole house, my offer
would be the following:

I would keep the lower floor with the Library as it is now, only changes there
would possibly be adds of books with some infios about the context of the
library books and the house itself (and its owner ).
I dont know if there are special historical related things with the upper floors
(Guildhall?/Coffin?) but if not i would be tempted to rebuild an L-Shaped on
the upper floors as another Part of the architectural section of the sosarian
history park.

Copys of the Books in the Library can be made for all interested People ofc.


This is just an suggestion and if the library is transfered elsewhere or someone
else holding the house with the library, this is perfectly fine for me

heh - you're all welcome - and I know I'd stepped away for UO for some time (I'll have to buy Callum a bunch of Roses to apologise, I think!)

My financial situation is much improved, so I'm going to take a good long look at things, and see if I can hang around this time - although as ever, I am more than happy for people to contact me on MSN or GTalk to arrange copying sessions as well. (Just PM for addresses, etc.)

I don't need to keep books in there as 'exclusives' - the more the knowledge travels, the better is is for all was always the motto of the Shadow Court. Even if it did cause hideous magical problems, but hey - that's what makes life worth living, the ever present threat of magical catastrophe. Even if Mul was usually the prime suspect.

And I'm pleased that people still get the Muldran Skully pun-bit

Just a thought - stuff like the book collections are an important part of Europa history, so if between us we end up with a pretty complete 'set' of what is out there, should we ask the EMs to set aside a 'library space' in one of their buildings, to avoid the danger of losing things when people break off playing for whatever reason?

We'd need to make sure what gets copied into it is genuine UO related stuff, and not the less than charming ranst some people have put into books in the past, but it would be nice if it can be filtered, and hopefully in some way indexed, by us, and then put into a permanent library.

I'm sure they would be up for it as the top floor of there reward hall is already being made a library and when they first arrived every friday they asked people to drop off books at the Council hall. Although it will take time for it to go on display I'm sure as they would have to read every one to check on its content, no simple feet that.

I'd hope they would, it's not as if they have not managed to leave many other buildings standing that strictly speaking should have fallen down years ago...

Well - as a community we could still have our own places to save our memories - and spreading them (as copies) over multiple places/buildings should be a save enough way
to make sure they survive the one or other decay-session

And even if there are riscs due to decay, as long as we have a working communication
system as it was just prooved they should be able to deal with

But this is not ment against the EM-Library idea - not at all - i just think we also should
care about our interests ourself as well and not load everything on the EMs

Fair enough point Crest - although, of course, as a community we'd have to get the stuff to the attention of the EMs for inclusion, so we are not devoid of our own responsibilities there.

Thing is, as a 'community', nobody is actually responsible for getting something done - and human nature being what it is, until there's a crisis, that tends to mean nobody does anything beforehand to prevent such a crisis. Using the EM facilities is more a 'backstop' - there are a whole host of reasons why people drop out of the game and houses end up decaying, most of which us as a 'community' can't prevent, and whilst we might hope for things like the collapse of a library for be noticed, and hope we can put some sort of rescue together in time, having an insurance system of the stuff we think really matters being stored safely seems worthwhile to me.
