Looking for something with good survivability that can take a few hits fully trained :) Any suggestions?

I'm pretty new to the taming game, but I'd say if you have GM bushido on your char, you might want to consider a lesser hiryu.

No Bushido or anything fancy, just need a good mount for general use :)

With the fact you can log out to auto stable a pet if you die, your pet shouldn't take any hits.

Swampy with exceptional barding would keep you safer, and thus the pet safer. You can train its resist and wrestling to 100.

Or an Ethy for the convenience of a pet that never dies.

If you are not fighting with it I would get an ethy

If oyu are a warrior the a Swampie with Barding absorbes dome damage. They can also be traiined up to take a hit.

But again why do you want this mount if its just for looks??? then it really doesnt matter.

Lammas look nice and so does any Ossie or a ridgback.

:sad3:

I'd go for a giant beetle myself, at least it can carry some of the loot home ;) My fisher uses hers to kill deep sea serpents, so they're not too puny either.

I agree with Wenchy...blue beetles can be nicely/effectively trained...and they carry stuff!

2 words - Boura Boura!

Stronger and hits harder than giant beetles. I said 2 words, coz they take 2 slots only, meaning you can bring 2 with ya!

Boura is the best mount for a non-tamer? Ruddy boura is the only one that can be controlled with JOAT, so you'd have to be human. Also, not mountable. Hmm...

Which is the toughest Boura which can be controlled via JOAT?

Summonable kinda tough pets would be great for my lil stealth archer :)

According to Stratics hunter's guide, ruddy boura requires 17.1 taming, lowland requires 29.1 taming, and high plains requires 47.1. Seeing as how JOAT is 20 skill points, I don't see how you'd control anything but the ruddy with it.

Heeeheeeheee

Do not confuse taming chance with control chance :D

Hint, how much taming is required for taming a horse?

According to this calculator: http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/anim.php, you have 0% chance controlling the lowland or high planes bouras at 0 taming/lore. With JOAT, you have 100% for the lowland, but still 0% for the high planes.

Eh, my human archer is unable to tame previously untamed horses with just joat. If I equip some taming gear and tame one, then release, using only joat I can re-tame.

Still curious which boura is the most powerful which can eb controlled via joat

I am gonna call in Batman on Harlequin if she/he keeps this up! :p

To determine control chance, plug in 20 lore, 20 taming. Click "Control", then click ok:

http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/anim.php

Actually it says 100% control for both ruddy and lowland boura. It says 0% for High Plains however.

Does Lowland take only 2 control slots, or 3? They are much tougher than ruddy. More hp, resists, damage.

Wish they had higher dex, don't think they'll follow too well.

I think I'll go petball some of these little guys. Great as a damage add for non tamers. However, not a mount

Ding dong! Bingo!

As we go on, more hints shall now follow!

29.1 points doth one needs to don, to tame wild horsies and boura from lands low.

0 points doth thou need to have on, to call and command these fine bedfellows!

Elves and gargoyles do not look forlorn, races with no JOAT should try commanding horses and behold!

Will lowland bouras obey or will their loyalty be worn? Horse owning elves and gargoyles should already know!

2 slots you need to tag a lowland boura along, pair them up and watch your enemies cry in woe

The 4 slots cost to employ two bouras is cheap as a song, leaving you 1 slot for a mount below!
