It has come to my attention....

While bank sitting on Pacific a player came up to me and asked me a very odd question. They asked me if I would sell my house behind theirs. Being that my home shard is Atlantic now I was confused. I said I did not own any houses on Pacific and the story begins.

Apparently sometime after I quit playing 2 1/2 years ago, someone registered a Stratics account with the name Rowan Elizabeth and created multiple characters on multiple shards and paraded around as me! This person apparently was not a very nice person and possibly stole, scammed, cheated people out of things using my good name.

Let me just say, in the 12+ years I have been playing, in the 8 accounts I have owned, I have never once had any kind of mark placed on my account. I have never stolen, scammed or cheated anyone. I have never misrepresented an item nor intentionally taken advantage of another player.

Quite the opposite really! I have helped out people in game for many years. I have always helped out new players when I could and helped out veteran players when needed as well. I have loaned out millions in gold- some of it paid back and some of it not.

I have never paid real money for anything other than my subscription. When I quit 2 1/2 years ago I did sell a few items for real money and sold some gold to a reputable broker, but I did not sell any of my accounts. Currently I have 2 active accounts and 6 inactive ones.

The story being told to me included that whoever was posing as me had spent a huge amount of money for ingame items. This person had also been very rude on these boards to many people. The person telling the story to me said I should use a name change token because of how much people hated me.

This all kind of is starting to come together. Now I know why people have jumped straight to cussing me out every time I post on here. Some of the PM's I have received have been borderline terroristic threats!

So, to clarify, I am the original Rowan Elizabeth, friend to many and foe to none, at least in game. I used to be the Official Breakfast maker when Stratics was on the original server. I am not the person who was posing as me. I just wanted to make that very clear to everyone out there. Take it how you will.

I don't know you. I only seen you at Rares Festival and such. But honestly why write it here? You have no real proof that it wasnt you and that might be what those other people believe too.

Anyone who does something wrong can always claim it was not them or make up other stories.

I'm not saying your not telling the truth, since I don't know you or heard about any of those things before your post.
If your reputation is good within your community it shouldnt really matter what some random people are saying.

I think he's playing on Pacific now, but I've never had any dealings with him they were not honorable. I've seen him help people several times.

There's no way to protect yourself from this happening.

I guess he came here because he felt violated and wanted to talk to as many people as possible as quickly as he could.

Yes, ABC you are correct. The person telling me about all this stuff said much of it happened here on stratics. Since I have was gone from the game and from stratics for a couple years I wanted to post here to clarify it.

Yes, I am currently on Pacific for the upcoming rares festival but Atlantic is now my main shard. I played Napa for many years, moved to Origin when it opened up and ran a museum there for years, then moved to Atlantic when the shards started to become empty.

If the person was just confused then I apologize for the post but this person claimed that the person impersonating me had taken $50k real money from a dead person and spent it on rares in UO. That kind of sick accusation makes me look really bad so I wanted to clear that up. I will admit I sold some rares and some gold for real money when I quit a couple of years ago, but that was back when we could list items for real money on stratics. And let me asure you it was not even close to $50k by any stretch of the imagination.

Anyhow, if anyone has any other information regarding this please pm me as I would love to get to the bottom of all of this...

EDIT: I just looked up the old thread from when I quit and was selling rares. It was posted in September of 2007. So I guess that is when I left the game. I cam back in December of 2009. So anything from Octoberish of 2007 to December 2009 was not me.

I understand why you posted and brought this to the light. If that had happened to me, I would probably post, too.

Years ago, someone on Lake Austin made a character with my name, FasterThanThat. I have no idea if any harm was done, but they didn't keep it up long. It really is disturbing to look up and see someone is impersonating you. You don't know their intent and there is no way to know what might come from it.

If you are really not a bad guy and don't do people wrong, then continue to do what is good and right. Even if you were wrong before, or someone who claimed to be you harmed your reputation, the thing to do now is to move forward, with integrity. People who interact with you will be able to make new determinations about you, based on how they know you to be now.

One thing I have learned is that you cannot stop what people say about you. People, not all of them, but many of them, will say -anything- they want to say, with no regard for the truth. If they think it sounds good and will serve the purpose of helping them accomplish their goal, they will say whatever they want to. What makes that worse is that most people believe everything they hear. They don't take the time to reason and analyze.

You can't stop people from talking about you. The only thing you can do is know the truth, inside yourself, and find peace in that truth.

Personally, I think it is a good thing to present the truth of a matter to those who might have an interest in the situation. Whether or not people consider what you have said, when making their determinations, is another thing you have no control over. Nevertheless, the truth is a good thing to put forth.

I named the character after my daughter Rowan Elizabeth. So, when I created my original Stratics account I named it Rowan Elizabeth so that people here and in game would know me. It really isn't that weird when you think about it.

I could care less about you and your misadventures...that was the point of my post. 99.9% of the people here had no idea there was any issue until you made mention of it here and on atlantic. I sure didn't.

Say something nice? I recall some choice words you had for me when I simply reminded you of uninsured items at the previous rares fest. I really do not feel like giving you the pleasure of kindness when all I have received from you is egocentric smugness.

Now as far as something crappy happening to you, try not to tick people off and normally you can avoid that aspect of crappiness. (I am making an assumption based on my previous experience with you)

It happens at one time or another. Back in the day, I had it happen a lot as even then I had a high level of trust by the community. Course my situation was made easier when they stopped allowing names like mine to be created. However, prior to that it happened all the time. Folks should be checking with you on ICQ prior to transactions, if they aren't doing something as simple as that as verification, that's their fault.

Think of a way you can help those you deal with verify the legit character and work under that. Its happened to most of us who deal in high-end items or serve the community as brokers.

"Ship Model" blessed is a docked ship named Model and it is not HTML. At some point there was a patch that eliminated th "A" in several things. So "A Ship Model" blessed is just pre-patch docked...

I have only gone to four board member profiles on purpose. So, folks, if I am on your list it is because I have some kind of link clicking syndrome or something. I'm pretty sure everyone must feel better now, knowing that I didn't actually have any interest in them or their information.

Personally, I have the opinion that online multiplayer games, which allow people to live in a virtual world, once a name is picked for a character they should no longer allow that same name to be picked by any other character. And this should be across shards (because of transfers).

Not even if the account with that name becomes active.

New names could be similar, perhaps, but never the same.

Sort of like e-mails login names which can never be the same.

Bob was an ass one day to someone who didn't appreciated it so he made another Bob.

Now Evil bob bought every item the other bob had, even the crafted one of a kind item that the other bob didn't imbue, evil bob found on on the evil market (That's where all the evil twins get their items, don't you know) So bob drops a couple mil for enough dyes to make his suit look exactly the same, even the glacial hair dye evil bob found, so evil bob trained all night and day (more like 5 hours of hitting a golem) to get legendary swordsman and chivalry and bushido cuz thats how true bob roles. But evil bob is in a predicament! Bob is in a guild! The initials are WTF? ! That's four letters! evil bob can't make a duplicate guild! SO he has to join! So all the Emmies are mentally chalanged so they let evil bob in because he said he was good bob, so good bob logs on and is like WTF? No pun intended! So he calls out the guild leader and explains the situation! But evil bob is a crafty ******! He calls out the guild leader too! Now, good bob is anti-social and none of the emissaries know him enough to differentiate between the two so they're both kicked, evil bob is still crafty so he makes a guild called TRUE and acts like good bob, now the guild leaders convinced and reguilds evil bob and good bob self-destructs because that's what happens to guildless androids.

Popps, if everyone had been wiser 12 years ago that might have been possible, but none of us, including the developers at that time had the benefit of hindsight. Now there are far too many film and book char names identical across multiple shards.
It is true that sometimes people copy characters with the deliberate intent of discrediting the known user of that character name and identity. That's been done to me and was rampant when smiths stood the forges. In fact an important factor in the introduction of repair deeds.
