How good is a vollem for PVM fighter?

I play a PVM swordsman having some magery. Had always enjoyed playing a summoner to hunt with demons. Now that I have vollem (unclaimed) which i heard is almost as good as a mare. Given limited stable slots (one blue beelte and one swampy) and the fact that vollem is not kind of "consumables" (summoned pet dies and you summon another one), is it worth to claim it as a companion?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm not sure on the Volem, but I thought that they added another 2 stable slots for everyone when Stygian Abyss came out. If so, you should have plenty of stable room.

Thank you for the info! I didn't know about the stable slot increase.

I haven't claimed any of my vollem for PvM yet.

The reason is as follows:

Vollems need to be ressurected when they die. Nature's Furies do not.

All my characters have completed the spellweaving quest and are human, thus can cast Nature's Fury.

Therefore, I can stay alone longer without the loss of a pet.

I have considered giving the vollem to my spellweaver, but in his case, elemenals/vortexes are a better bet as well as nature's fury.

I have considered giving the vollem to my warrior, but a couple of ruddy boura or a lesser hiryu are just as good for my purposes.

Come to think of it, I think it's time to sell my vollem-in-a-can. I don't think I'll ever use them.

I have two of them fully trained. I use them both on my fisher. They are GREAT! I hate having to recast summons in the middle of a fight, or having my summons run off somewhere since I cant command them. The Vollems make a great body guard for a char that is naturally not a fighter. I went around a bought up some more crystals, and eventually I will train up a few more and put them on my Miner.

In short they are not worth having on chars that you normally PvM or PvP with. But they are wonderful for chars like crafters, miners, fishers, and so on.

Even the best pet will die quickly if you can't keep it healed.

If you tell the Vollem to guard you, then you attack your target, won't the enemy target you, allowing the Vollem to do its thing without getting attacked?
In certain cases, at least

I have a melee Treasure Hunter that is capable of doing up to level 5 maps without resorting to pets, summons, barding, etc.

However, for level 1-3 maps (not tested level 4), two half-trained vollems mean that I only have to fight the Ogre Lords, and the vollems kill the rest (and kill the rest fast!). I would not be surprised if they would be more useful on a level 5 than 3 or 4, because of the lack of Ogre Lords.

Think of them as the non-ridable versions of Nightmares that they are (even their loot on their first death is the same!), and consider what one could kill with 2 fully trained nightmares back in the day (and what the AOS/SE/ML/SA equivalents are of those hunts). That should be your guide as to how and where they would be useful.

Vollems are about as strong as a ki-rin or a unicorn; they might be a bit below a mare, but they make up for that by not requiring any taming skill to own and control. You will need vet or magery to keep it alive, but like Stupid Miner said, it would be the same with any pet. Having two would be excellent.

Personally, I love my vollem. He is fairly well-trained and is strong enough to take two daemons at once; he can churn through a single daemon without needing to be healed at all. So as long as you were able to heal it, I'd recommend a vollem to any non-tamer.

Is there a noticable difference in skills/stats between the cyrstal vollem and the craftable vollem?

I thought I'd test a crafted one out before I use one of my crystals. But if a crafted Vollem is much weaker it would not be an accurate test.

Maybe we can get some posts of stats here? Thanks

I have two fully trained vollems that i use with my sampire. My sampire takes all the dmg so i get 2 almost mares adding in dmg for me. If you play a char that can take the dmg and not let them die then they are probably the best non tamer support pet. As I can use 2 and still ride my paroxy swampy.

I use a vollem on my Bard T-Hunter. It kicks but! I do Lvl 6's and after everthing is provo'd I set the vollem to chew on things. It also works great on the bloods eles, poison eles, and titans. Pretty much the only thing I have a real hard time with using it on are the ancient wyrms.

I noticed my vollem has trouble with a regular Ogre, I can see an Ogre Lord might prove to be a problem. I's odd since he can take out an earth elemental in 2 seconds but the Ogre does better damage to him than he does on the Ogre

A vollem IS a nightmare.
Same stats range same skill range same resist distribution same base damage and same control slot. Heck they does fire breathe attack too.

The only differences are vollems dont require tamer lore to control and bond and is not mountable.

thats all i have to say.

So what you're saying is that the Vollems are a lesser form of the Nightmare? Well thats stupid. They should have just made them the exact same as a Nightmare. Nightmares aren't all that powerful, and since you cant ride the Vollem it would not be overpowering.

Oh well. I guess what War Ultima is saying is that if your a Tamer, you should use Nightmares because they are more powerful, but if not, then you should use the Vollem. Just dont expect them to be anything like a Nightmare.

Whew, glad we got that cleared up.

Well for someone without any reading comprehension and dont actually read a thread to make a ******** comments reminds me of a lot of noobies I dropped on sonoma.

If you read the thread you will know people arent sure about what vollems are (reskined nightmare) so I provided a straight answer. but for a trammie like you you probalby knew all about it already. :thumbup1:

Lol, sorry, guess my sarcasm was a little too dry on that one. I wasnt mocking you War. I was mocking the people who keep asking the same question over and over again even though the info has already been given multiple times.
