I am of the mind that adding 5x-10x insurance and changing siege skill gains to operate how they do on prodo would be quite draw. No tram, No selling to NPC, No char transfers, or advance char tokens, and Fel rules in all facets; could be pretty cool imo.

Bad idea then SP housing would be full from all the prodo people placing houses and not playing SP...
yes but if you make the houses not auto refreshed then any who dont come there the houses would fall!

either way I was just stating why i wont play there! I am way to used to have more than 125 storage!
ot if they made bank storage for sp 1200 or so i might consider it!

Would you go for this if they allowed you to place a second house on the classic shard if they had no customized housing no auto refresh making you refresh the house every week by opening the door? Now lets had a twist here there is no private settings to keep others out of your house you need a house key to get in, and lock the door before someone kills you and takes the key. If someone does kill you they take your key. The house becomes theirs and everything in it will automaticly transfer to their account once the door is unlocked and relocked by them.

It doesnt have to go all the way back to that ruleset, those rules were changed before the implementation of tram, and custom houses etc... and even if it did go all the way back to that there were simple ways to keep your keys secure, a vendor on the steps with keys on a key ring "not for sale" for example... only idiots or careless people lost their house.

and to answer the original SP question. Nothing. SP has its purpose... a classic shard is whats needed to bring me back to EA

How about, making it a mixed system ?

That is, have insurance during the time players build up their template but them, as soon as a player reaches, say, 110 skill in, say, 4 skills or more, then the character would no longer be able to insure items.

The idea is, to allow players some relative safety while they grow on the shard but then, once they have developed enough, they have to face the riskier shard......

just an idea.

Without the ability to place a house on Siege without my primary residence falling, the PK's of Siege will never see me there. The only char I would play would be a crafter, which you can't play out of a bank box very well.

Since I don't enjoy PvP, I doubt Siege would ever attract me much - but were I to want to start PvP, the main reason I'd not go to Siege is time. I have far too much I enjoy doing on my home shard already, and a long list of things I mean to try. I simply would never have enough playing time to split between two or more shards, and I've no inclination to abandon the friends, characters and homes I have already.

I'd play "Siege" if there was a server closer to my location. I tried Siege but couldn't stand the lag.

so if siege took out there rot system would people play it? personally i think they should remove rot

also i could see placing a secondary house but have strict rules like gotta log into your character at least once a week to refresh your house *if its not primary* i wouldn't mind something like that

I would support a 30 day young status for new players to Siege. I don't see a problem with it at all.

I think the 30 day young status for new players is the best idea I have heard so far to attract prodo players to Siege. I'm still new to Siege myself and I just run one account. So placing a house on Seige is a big commitment for me. Losing your house on the prodo shard you came from isn't that big of a deal to me, it is the contents in it. Too bad if you place a house on Siege, the contents of your other shards house couldn't go into a storage crate.

Isn't Siege terribly unbalanced?
As far as I understand the current UO things are meant to be played with very good armor (enhanced) and weapons.

So is not Siege basically damage imbalanced or do enough enhanced or good armor pieces drop to make up for it?

Nothing.

I want a real, Classic Shard.
I truly think that Siege should become the classic shard, with some rule changes of course. Adding a completely separate classic shard would decimate what remains of the Siege population and it would no longer be a viable server. I just don't know how the classic conversion could be done effectively, what would happen with everyone's existing items, and whether players would be willing to return to play a pre-populated server.

Yeah having a house there and not screwing one other house, would be good. Also 2 chars per account would be nice.

Guess I'm not so hard hit as your predicament, because although I'm not a PvPer (Completely PvM), I want the threat of it pushed at me. Sounds stupid, but there's nothing like shatting yur pants, and pegging it, heart thumping wild, to evade that Red name scattering around on the side of the screen - probably homing in on you at blazing speeds ^^;;

A lot of the folks I knew have left Europa now, and moved on, so I personally could handle raising a character each on two Servers. The house issue is off putting though, I'd like one on each shard, whether manual refreshes are needed or whatever...

I seriously want "real" danger in a game, where dieing matters. Sure, it'll get frustrating at times, but I really think it'd be well worth it. After some odd Felluca experiences over the years, I sincerely believe that.

Maybe they could turn the Inns into personal space where you could own a chest, like an extra bank box, kind of rent the space. Maybe so much would come out of your bank box and when you run out the box becomes open to everyone.

Or, maybe house boats, a boat with a little box house on it, where you have a door you can lock and unlock and inside you have lockdowns and secure chests. They would have to be refreshed once a month.

I think what would allow me to play Siege would be a living space of my own because that's what really makes UO and gives it that overall edge. It's kind of like one of the things you need to grow, you start out with nothing and end up with a big house and a whole lot of stuff and gp.

Exactly my point of view!
Tho not siege I just created a new garg imbuer on pac and am not even half way to my skill cap and my bank is full!
and i wont give up my ls house to put a house on siege to just run 1 toon in the game!

a non auto refreshed house that needs refreshed every 2 weeks would seem fair to me!
that or simply increased storage for the bank ! for the ONE toon!
shoot I would even be willing to pay a one time fee for the increase on siege to be able to play!

The fact is to try and play there with low storage is not nor ever will be a option for me!

None of the above.

I would however, play it if it was a true classic server. Right now, there is not a whole lot that makes siege worth starting over for.

There was a long while where Siege was incredibly imbalanced, but a lot of those situations have been corrected by the dev team. With the addition of Imbuing came even more balance because higher end armor and weapons can be made to keep up with todays gameplay. The main thing Siege requires is a little different mindset and the ability to make gold, because without insurance you have to have the ability to either buy back items you have lost or the ability to replace them.

Even if you do not create an imbuer, there are crafters who sell or will custom make items for you and most guilds have imbuers that will work with guildmates to keep ya equipped!

I've been on Siege for five years and I have to say this is the most balanced its been. In todays game, I think its incredibly balanced.

Sorry to put out lots of quotes, but there are A LOT of people on Siege willing to let you have storage at their homes for free. You don't need a full house, but an extra 2-3 secures goes a long way.

Ive tried Siege.......

There are a ton of great players there but there are a ton of not so great players there. Once you are associated with them through your guild you are marked for life even if you no longer associate with the guild nor any of the "unsavory" players.

Thus the reason I will never seriously play there again. And if I could find someone to buy all my stuff that I acquired there I would delete both chars from both my accounts on Siege even though they are somewhat well developed!

Yes some of the board warriors on the Siege boards can be quite how do I put this and not break the tos....... Well lets just say they arnt someone I would want to spend any time with!

That's what makes UO work though - it can accomodate pretty much every playstyle people want ;). The choices of Trammel/Fel or production/siege rules are part of what makes it so good, and I'm perfectly happy some resource going to a shard I am incredibly unlikely to play, because so many people enjoy it there. It's not for me though, my home is Europa and I have way too much to try do there already....

I'm sure that's the case, but for many of us a house isn't just storage.

A dark view of a dark shard.

I have a character that started on SP the day the Shard opened.

That day was great!!

People explored, leveled and fought together. Either beside each other or against emerging PKs.

Then time continued and SP evolved into an Honor Kill and gank-o-saurous fest.

Now it is mostly empty and rotting.

98% of the slowly dwindling UO player base shuns SP.

No matter how skilled one player is, they lose against five.

The remaining 2% falsely believe that playing on SP makes them a "better" UO player.

PvP in UO has little meaning. It has devolved to gank-o-saurous sauce served on a cracked plate of mispent dreams.

Gone are the glory days of Gates opening in towns and huge guilds riding as the legions of Heaven through to assail the minions of Hell's guild.

Trammel is a haven. Much desired by many regardless of how one views Trammel.

Feluccia has become the realm of Guard-zone scripter/harvesters.

SP has failed from lack of balance.

SP is dead. Long live SP.

Err... you DO realize, OP, that Fel exists too, right? Some ppl enjoy Fel with insurance. rolleyes:

BTW, I wouldn't want to play Siege because it is horribly dead there. I have a character I started, but the lack of interaction and players made it a bore-a-thon. I generally RP (and yes, some of us rp'ers enjoy fighting) and found little to none.

So lame.... I could accept it if you played Siege. But judging by your comments you haven't played for along time there. Don't like it when people base their comments on outdated experiences.

Of course, I'd loved to be correct if you have played there recently. Maybe I've seen your character.

Anyway, Siege Perilous is one of my favourite shards. And I don't PvP much. I'm a crafter and a merchant. I enjoy the slower pace of life (ROT isn't quite as bad as people 'assume').

Sure the community is small and it goes through quieter periods. But we do have a community that I frankly wouldn't change for anything. You've got your ******bags (no names, no names) but generally people can be cool. In a recent event the Red's worked along with everyone else despite ample opportunities to slaughter defenceless crafters.

I found my original shard, Europa in this case, too much of a chore and I wanted a shard where I could actually play a part.

Anyway, my point is don't simple jump to conclusions about Siege. Its easy to make assumptions about us Siegers, but you might just find us a rewarding bunch of people to play with :D

One of the things is so many run stealth on siege right now. Which makes it seem a lot more dead then it is. A suprise EM, or Dev visit, and 20 players pop out of the woodwork. And a few shown players too.

I don't run stealth 'cause there's no room on my template for it :p

I just started playing Siege after a few invites to visit over the years. I'm finding it a rewarding experience even for a new player even without the NEW guild, and I'm enjoying RoT as a guarantee that I'll eventually GM rather than what happened on Chesapeake where half my characters are stuck at 70 forever.

If I were to change anything it might be getting [Young] status for a little while, but other than that I rather like the community the way it is so far.... Housing was definitely a factor in the choice to develop a character there, but only time will tell if I stay.
