Why so many Bears?

Thank you to the people who brought this to my attention. Now I know some people are not to thrilled with me about getting 12 out of 50 tickets. So instead of wasting my time in icq defending myself to different people I figured id do it all at once. Now I hate having to defend our player run town and myself over and over. Or write little disclaimers, but it seems time and time again I have to and its getting really bother some. I know there are people who will do anything to see me fail and see Kijustsu Anei fail on this shard so I'm going to explain this very carefully.

10 out of the 12 tickets I gave away to different players and organizations. However, I did keep two.

1 I used for myself. The other I used to have engraved to Kijustsu Anei to give to the community I am apart of.

Now over this past week....

A very kind friend of mine gave me an extra ticket. So I claimed it on Bam Bams acccount and gave it to her.

The same friend was kind enough to give Luna Rossa one. Thats why she has one.

A random person at the Hall of Commons gave one to Lady Laurel on Sunday.

Gunga Din won his bear fair and square on the forums contest.

Now when it came to hunting them I spent around 16hours straight hunting these things. Did I know that only 50 tickets were on each shard? No I did not. Not until around 4pm the next day. The entire day I spent taking people to spawn locations or assisted in helping them kill the monster so they could get a ticket. The more crap I hear, the more I feel like I should have just been a jerk and sold each ticket for 50 - 80 million each and make over half a billion gold on them and not given any away. However... I like spreading the joy around and those who want to ruin that can just go take a hike.

Now as for the Goblin Trap lantern. Wow yes, I even have to defend selling items in this game that are mine.... shesh. I sold it for 105,000,000 gold to a museum collector on the shard. Where is that gold going? Well I gave Morpheus Mardox 30,000,000 to use as prizes for contests since he is the News Manager and I gave 40,000,000 to Stratics moderators to run their contest. The rest of the gold now I'm sorry (I might buy a few nice decorations) but, I will be giving some to the TKO crafters night event to fund their giveaway and some gold to Moria for prizes at the Chesapeake Fight Night.

Now I hope this clears allot of things up for everyone.

I honestly do not feel like a explanation was needed here Gareth. I was with you until server down fighting to get our tickets, and it was not a easy fight at times. Seems some of the Monsters that guarded the boxes with the redeemable ticket inside were indeed paragon without a paragon tag. We searched high and low and killed the monsters in a team friendly fashion. It was me, you and two fellow friends. Like you said at the time we didnt know there was a set limit on redeemable tickets. We fought Friday night until server down Sat A.M. arm and arm against the beasts. I received 4 tickets myself, turned one in , gave two away and sold one for my needs.

Gareth - not to sound too crass, but why should I (or anyone) care how many bears you have?

Too many people are overly concerned with what everyone else has. Perhaps it is an overinflated sense of entitlement that too many people seem to have these days both in UO and in real life. UO is about what you do, not what you have. If people become too concerned with the eye candy and stop having fun, then perhaps they should look elsewhere for their entertainment. As I tell my kids, "don't worry about what your brother/sister has, enjoy what you have and and stop being jealous."

Perhaps someone should write a guide called, "UO Without Tears: A Guide to Enjoying Life in Sosaria"

Aye, thank you all for the replies. After hearing some complaints if they get a certain point I normally post about it. They are just bears not like I can lay in UO bed with them and cuddle.... (Visual) sooo anyways..... hehe.

You are a stand up guy as far as I can see. I have not heard anyone complain about the fact that you got so many bears. I think what people have a problem with is the situation that allowed you to acquire so many. You played the game as it was handed to you. I don't see how anyone can fault you for that, but people can and have the right to complain about the flawed system that allowed you to acquire more than 20 percent of all the bears on Chessy. To those that are giving you crap: Don't hate the player, hate the game.

I also want to say something to those that call those of us with the balls to criticize the flaws in the implementation of these events whiners. I can't speak for everyone, but I want these events implemented in the fairest way possible. I don't see how asking that we are all treated fairly is a problem, unless you have some investment in maintaining the current flawed system.

Unfortunately, there was a few people saying some not nice things in this regard. To hell with them I say. There is always going to be the "haves" and the "have nots". What makes people like Gareth stand apart is generosity and the fact that Gareth is one of a few people to keep this community informed of events and such. Keep up the good work man.

To whom this may concern: I came to your great shard before Xmas selling some house teleporter sets that I had gotten on my account. I was lucky enough to meet Gareth and a few of his kind people through a sale of my teles. Now I will tell you, I have been on and off of this game for over 10 years and never have I met someone so helpful and eager to assist me in anything. You guys should just feel very lucky to have him in your UO community. And Gareth I do not feel you had to explain anything to anyone. Unfortunately this game has gone to alot of greed which takes alot of fun out of playing sometime. I for one will remember my trip to Chessy only for one reason and that is I met a new friend there willing to be there for whatever and to take the time out of his busy schedule if I needed something. You know if you had taken those 12 tickets and sold them for 50M each, then they would have said the same thing, so just put a deaf ear their way. Trust me those who complain are just jealous they didn't get the tickets themselves and if they had of, they sure wouldn't have been nice enough to share. Keep up the great work Gareth, you are a super guy!

On ATL I got over 6+ Bears by waiting for people to kill the guardians and looting the tickets without them knowing. Do I plan to give them away? Sadly no, I dont. I also obtained tickets by finding them myself, just like Gareth.

Gareth gave so many away, he did something 90% of UO wouldn't do in that kind of scenario.

It takes allot of guts to say something in front of your peers. When I was reading what you were saying I got confused at first. I was like is he giving criticism because he wants items? or is he giving criticism because he wants the drops to be fair for everyone? Then Zelda cleared it up for me, explaining to me what you were saying, then I understood what you were getting at.

My suggestion when you bring something up is to have it pre written before hand. And review it a couple of times before you bring it up. Then put yourself in the EMs shoes and read what you wrote. Try to think of what questions they might have and then incorporate that into what you wish to address.

As for the Event start at 12am thats my prime time play. I know many people such as my friend Elijah Cross doesn't get to play at 7pm Prime time and misses out on allot of EM events. From what EM Dudley stated he spawned them throughout the night and the day. (Also have to think that he maybe went to bed somewhere between 12am and 11:59pm.)

I get what you were saying Clair and I understand allot of peoples frustration about the event. I know I didn't offer much assistance on stratics on how to obtain them. I did it over icq and had faith that others would pass along the information. I didn't post it on stratics for the simple fact that I can see who is logged onto the Chesapeake Forums. Invisible or not. When I see shard traders and people from other shards viewing the V-Day event post I think the worst. If I post exactly how to do it, are they going to come over and get all the tickets and leave Chesapeake Players high and dry? Because I do believe our shard was the first one to start the V-Day event. So Chesapeake had a disadvantage on the time for some players. For other players that work that afternoon shift it was good for them. We were also competing with big time Rare traders and sellers. Also those who came to do the event to take the bear back to their own shard.

So looking back on the event I can say for sure that from 12am to about 11am *Adds known tickets up* at least 24 tickets spawned in that time period. Which is half of the tickets. So between 11am and 11:59pm 26 tickets were up for grabs. And the entire shard even missed one. So Chesapeake only got 49/50 tickets.

Now I am not saying I am right but, from the information I am posting below this is how I arrived at it.

-12am Yeoman icqs me about a EM gate

-1:00am I got a ticket after learning about the box

- 1:30am I got hunting with some people from Alelisande. We each get one ticket. Thats 4 tickets between us all.

- 3:30?? We ran into Yoshi and Elijah Cross and made sure Yoshi got a ticket. We just wanted to kill the stuff lol.

- 4:00am (around) I meet up with RuthieJ and some of her friends. Four of us each got 4 tickets thats 16 tickets between us all

Server down

- 10:00am I asked Rivia and other on icq to meet me at the moongate spot. then took them to the Paragon one that spawned in that blue/white mage building. We met a few other random players at the gate and invited them to go. After we killed it we played guess a number 1 - 25 and gave (I forget how many but we gave away 4) one was the ticket from that monster.

- 1:09pm I icqed Zelda to ask if she wanted to give one away on WRR.

So that left me with 2 tickets because I gave 3 of mine away at the blue/white monster building. Then I gave one away to Zelda.

- 1:30pm I headed back out with MR clean. We got three at Compassion through the mountain pass by that big black castle. We then assisted someone soloing one in the swamp and made sure he got the ticket.

- Around oooh 2:30ish pm? We ran across a SHE group fighting some at the Desert. So MR Clean and I assisted them. For some reason SHE kept getting the paragon ones LoL. We made sure they got their tickets. I also soloed one by myself there with my mare/beetle and claimed the ticket.

- So somewhere between 3 and 4pm I ran into Lox. Who killed one by himself at that Ethereal Castle thing. Someone nabbed his ticket so I gave him one since he did it by himself.

And I forget where the last one came from. I was sooo fricken tired after being up for almost 48hours lol.

So I wrote all of that out to show Dudley was being honest when he said it ran all day. We were still finding them at 4pm est. I didn't post anything because by the time I went to bed around 4pm I had 72 active icqs conversations going. I was just far to tired to post stuff.
