Okay I have not seen these and up till reading another post just now, didnt really think they existed.

Do they?

If so is there a link someone can pop in here?

They do not exist. There was a proposal to have them but it was rather unpopular, at least in the form it was proposed.

If you have your heart set on pet dies, you can always use pet air fresheners on TC1.

Unpopular to a tiny lil handful that is supposed to represent the entire playerbase.FAIL

At the very least they should have released natural colors like BLACK.

"Unpopular" is an understatement. Some folks treated them as the death knell of UO.

If you just want a colored horse, you can get those rather easily through factions. I know that's how a lot of people "get around" not having pet dyes in game. Cu's and hiryu's also come in a variety of colors, another way to "get around" not having pet dyes in game. The proposal to bring them in game was liked by most, just a few didn't want them at all. Those that wanted them just couldn't agree on how to do it, unfortunately.

That's odd. I only see one post in favor of the idea, but apparently we're all whining.

Drink more coffee and try again.

Thanks for the wine and cheese I needed it! :pint:
But seriously its very difficult to have a huge party of greater drags and they are 2 colors.......natural colors at least...forget the pinks and purples ok, I can agree with you there...black, white, green, sure would be helpful....and imo realistic enough. :mf_prop:

Actually, the polls were in favor of implementing some form of pet dyes. Don't let naysayers tell you otherwise. Just because they think their opinions are the only valid ones out there that doesn't mean it was an unpopular idea. The big debate was how to implement pet dyes. The easy way with less Dev work would have been to allow rehuing of pets, but more people wanted to see actual artwork implemented which improved the look of dyed pets. This is why it wasn't implemented.

I for one was against the idea because they were presented to us for opinions and the pets were all one color, I mean the exact same shade everywhere. Like they were toys you had dipped in a bucket of paint.

Many wanted neon pets. Hopefully if this ever happens they will provide an on/off switch in the clients to let many of us avoid the visual abuse during play. If not, there's always the log off button on the paperdoll.

If they made the coloring look good with appropiate shading and variation in color over the pets body, I for one wouldn't mind it. Trouble is, the Devs don't have much skill for such artwork coloring, or are not allowed to spend the man-hours to show they do have the skill by doing the job right.

The matter may come up officially again. What reaction they get from the playerbase will depend on what we are presented with.

They were real in the beta.

When the beta was over there was a vote on them. The majority vote was in favor of the idea but a very organize and vocal group killed the idea before it could be implemented.

In other words people cried and got their way.

I guess he means a Stratics poll that I didn't participate in. The UOLedger conducted a poll with around 100 voters, the majority of whom disapproved of pet dyes.

Were not. I was in the beta and never saw any pets turned the god awful hues they presented in the poll.

People didn't reject the idea of dyes, they rejected the idea of having monotone pets because the art team was lazy. The dye-it-all hue system in both clients sucks.

Mythic _actually_ listened to the playerbase for once and went back to the drawing board with the idea. Thats a good thing.

That being said, however, their track record with shelving projects indefinately and them dropping them completely without communicating that fact....

What should have been done is made a poll that popped up when people logged in UO, or at least a link for people. That way people who didn't go to stratics would have known of it.

Completely agree. Mythic's absolute reliance on Stratics is sad. The patchers are cable of so much more then the behind-the-times info they sport, and the UO Herald is woefully underused and POORLY designed. (I mean seriously, hiding the event info and stories away on a page thats barely linked to the front page AND not bothering to make any mention that said story had even been posted?!)

This all kinda goes back to their shocking inability to communicate reliably with their p(l)ayers in any meaningful way.

As far as polls are concerned, I think even Stratics would agree with this. Too easy for folks to create multiple Stratics accounts to falsify poll outcomes.

On Stratics? Yes. However if they did it in the patcher, required a valid UO login, etc. then it should be valid.

The pet dye poll they did went through a 3rd party 'free' poll website that didn't require a unique identifier, and was thusly complete B.S.

My 'reliance on Stratics' comment didn't have to do with polls, but with Mythic's choice to make this site their sole news and communication with the Dev Team outlet. They should be using the UO Herald for communication, or forward things to all the fan sites (which I can gurantee has NOT been done since the Beta Key contests).

Well, it's not too far fetched, considering that Stratics used to be *officially* related to UO. My understanding is that this *official* relationship ended when EA took over.

Just because you didn't have one or didn't see one doesn't mean they weren't there. They were. You missed them. It's all moot because that ship has sailed and we won't have to suffer through color police pancakes or awefully colored dragons as that particular project will never see the light of day.

Anyone know what formats or computer languages UO does their artwork in?

I was just thinking about the downloadable character skins you could find for that game Unreal, or whatever it was called, that people posted to the Internet. The 3D shoot-em up. The files often included a pic with about a dozen views of the character. Is UO's artwork done in a similar fashion?
