New Dye Tub - Metal Armor

Recommend a new Reward-based dye tub option.

A dye tub for metal armor.

Perhaps the same tub does bone or make that another tub as well.

How about a weapons dye tub, that is if the Metal tub does not include weapons.

great idea, but we can do all this with the new stains. I like the idea of reward based pet dyes/tattoos.. not the neon colors, but something cool like that.

Personally I think that the DEV team would rather think of ways to increase our lockdowns to astronomical proportions rather than give us the simple solution.

We have asked and begged for a Metal Dye tub for YEARS... it's never been given. Why? Lazy perhaps? Don't know... instead they would rather give us 1,000's of dyes that DO NOT STACK... Yes 1 use stinking Tokuno dyes that make you want to collect a 100 of each one so you can use up 600 or more lockdowns... Wasting storage space and everything else...

Then they give us plant dyes... so now we create clippings... dozens and dozens of those .... new snippers... new bottles of dyes... dozens of those... to increase our lockdowns even more... and if you use one out of the bottle now it won't stack.... ok so now you have stacks of this and stacks of that... increasing the lockdowns even more .... and for what???

I think they do it so you'll open up more and more accounts so you can have more and more houses for more and more storage... so they make more money off the smaller playerbase.

This is my theory. So what could have been done with ONE dye tub perhaps 2 ... Is now over 100 lockdowns..... what a great idea... Not.

Of course I'll say this .... and lets not forget it.... metal dye tubs won't dye furniture.... they won't dye deeds ... and the won't dye other things... so I guess there is a trade off there.

Just something to think about.

EA may do things wrong but they aren't Satan like you seem to think..

The clippings stack, bottles stack, the fixatives stack and the dyes even stack. The only time they don't stack is when they don't have 5 uses - but that's because of game mechanics. EA have done the best they can with stacking regarding staining!

No because we already have enough stuff that dyes armor, unless apparently we're trying to screw over gardeners for over charging or anyone who's held onto a Tok dye.

I think this would be a cool idea. Maybe limit the hues.

Make it so it can't be used by other players and make it a high end boss drop or something. That way, each person has to get their own through fighting!

I'd like the ability to enhance armor with special materials for color only. So instead of breaking stuff trying to enhance it's properties and intensities, just allow enhancing it for color at 100%. Something more for a smith to do. They'll probably say it's too much of a system to code compared to just giving a dye tub.

personally i think that the stains are sufficient for coloring stuff. What i would like to see is stuff like embroidering, inlaying, ect for armour, weaps and shields.
for example some black colored leather armor with gold stitched patterns(sorta like tattoos for armour). It could have special properties as well, or not.

Gardeners got a bonus with the staining system, I would hate to take that away from them. There are enough ways to colour armor metal or otherwise in the game now. I'd rather see new items that aren't redundant.

Wasting storage space? It's much better than thousands of colored plants gardeners have been hoarding.

And I'm surprised the gardening community hasn't built a Sakkarah shrine yet.

Well, I'm all for more uniformity in armor colors, but now we have stone and wood armor as well, a new stain system, and lets face it, how many of us still think valorite looks keeeeeen?

That's kinda what I thought.

I would say alchemists got the biggest bonus from the staining system, since that's who actually makes the stains. And yes, I do not grow any plants, but make quite a lot selling stains.

Indeed. I can't wait for the pet dyes. They should just make all the natural dyes into mount dyes.

Of course to make sure nothing is gimped. Pets that are mounts can not be dyed.
This would solve any PvP issue.

Why? It can already be done. That's what you have stains for.

personally id rather see some pvp fixes before more trammy pixels are added....and even if they do add metal dye tubes they will prolly have at least a dozen colors, possibly with different shades for each and all will be seperate tubs adding more junk to the server.......you guys cry about new colors and items to dye with....sheesh....open ms paint and quit UO asap.

Why a tub?

If you asked this question you are not conducting critical thought.

One tub, no components, no muss, no fuss.

And that is one of the modern keys to MMO's. Relative simplicity. Moan and complain if you like but that is one of the aspects that all growing and successful games are employing.

I am not suggesting idiotic degradation to game mechanics.

I am recommending improvements that are simple and most people (even the nay-sayers) would utilize.

If something does not need to be overly complex, why is it?

Again, simple metal dye tub as a reward.

Developers take the Leather dye tub, code the same item into Metal Armor.

How is this not BETTER?

Oh wait, searching far and wide for regeants and dyes makes the game more enjoyable to the larger community right? How about a vote?

And with 5 GM Alchemists on 5 shards, I am unconcerned with the reduction of exclusivity for dye crafting.

Again, why not a metal dye tub?

What about a single tub that dyes everything? This would be a very popular reward

It would put a lot of stain vendors out of business.

FINALY growing plants is being rewarded by being able to make stains...FINALY.
This makes it worth being loaded with bags for 7 days filled with plants and taking care of them every single day.

Before it was soo...unrewarding.

Stain vendors?

My 5 GM(+) Blacksmiths want a piece of the "out of business" pie.
See the other posts in this forum regading Barbed Leather being the armor of choice for MELEE!!!

A situation my other 5 x GM Tailors enjoy however.

Besides, plants look kinda cool on their own. I would enjoy getting a few hedges on any of the 5 shards I frequent, particularly for less than 50K gold per hedge.

The blacksmith concept leads to another question: I cannot seem to craft SE med-able Mage plate. I have the expansion, do I need to craft it in SE lands? Is it only drops not the crafted pieces?

Cheers,

Megilhir:
Only the exceptional pieces will get the mage armor property. Also the SE plate pieces have a low exceptional rate even for a legendary smith. You need to use an ASH+ hammer to increase skill and exceptional %.

Most excellent!

With that in mind, why are the barbed suits more popular? Do they get the med restriction removed if Exceptional?

I ask as I am attempting (and /sigh...failing) to figure out how to crat all 70 suits.

And easy method would be great. Some of the explainations i have encountered are aimed at folks that have not had breaks in UO play.

Again, thanks mate.

Well, I can tell you that barbed armor is more popular for several reasons.

1. Leather is automatically medable thus you don't have to waste a property on mage armor to meditate

2. For most of UOs existence Barbed runic kits were, and really still are, much much more common than verite or valorite hammers.

3. Leather is dyeable, for a long time metal armor had no method to be dyed

Well I guess I sit my GM (+) smith and progress my GM (+) Tailor.

Seems sort of sad.

In RL I have crafted a Ringmail tunic (historically there really is no armor correctly deemed chain-mail -see avatar) and augmented it with plate pieces.

I have also made leather armor.

I would feel a lot safer wearing the Full Plate (15th century style, not shown) in a melee. More so than the ring and plate (shown) or the leather suit (not shown).

Any ideas on how to get a 70 suit of Barbed Leather. Oddly, I seem to recall barbed leather as not being med-able. Guess that changed in the last few years as well?
