Trying to GM tactics and fencing... heard something about pet sparring. Anyone that can clue me in as to how it works?

I recommend using a golem and a 100% poison weapon.

0-40 Buy in New Haven
40-55 Train on shadow wisps at Ilshenar Spirituality
55-70 Throw on +15 fencing/tactics jewels to bring to to 70, get a 100% poison fencing weapon, and start golem training.
70-120 Once you hit 70 real skill, remove the skill jewels and continue golem training to 120.

Find a pet that has the same skill as you. As you spar, you'll each rise about the same, so you can spar each other all the way to 120. It's best if you have a vet/healer alternating heals on both of you.

You can do golem training but that doesn't train your pet. I'm a big believer in training pets for PvP.

Not looking to train a pet, just heard you could spar an animal in town or something without getting hurt or hurting the animal.

That's for training Bushido and the like. You can lightning strike a blue all day and do no damage, but still gain Bushido. Just get a pet and unguild yourself, it will be blue and you can order it to attack you. AFAIK, for weapon/tactics you need a golem.
