Sampire training necro - karma question

I was doing the necro quest in New Haven yesterday to get the spellbook (first time I've worked on necromancy) and got lots of "you have lost a lot of karma" messages. I then went out and used my sword to kill low level monsters in an attempt to raise my karma, but never got the other messages ("you have gained a little karma" and the like). Now I was honoring my opponents first so not sure if that short-circuited karma gains.

So here's my question: what should a low level sampire do to keep his karma up while training necro up to 99?

Train it all the way to 99, then go kill succubi to get karma and knight of honor.

You shouldn't. You should do Necro first then worry about Karma.

Make a new toon, start necro with 50, work it to 99, dump it onto a stone, delete toon!

i used my necro mage, stoned his necro, re trained it and stoned that to trade to my sampire. only took me a day to train it from 0 to gm for the sampire

I have to get used to the idea and utility of soulstones. A lot has changed since I played back when UO was first released!
