Why revert the snow?

Short winter in Britannia this year?

The volume on the Reveal Spell has been reduced.
Volume? Same as what I'd call radius?

Due to the issues brought about by the recent hueing changes we have added new skin dyes to the Alchemist and Provisioner NPC’s – this will allow players to dye their skin to any hue within their race. The name of the dye is Skin Tingeing Tincture. The cost of the tincture is approx 2,500.
We couldn't fix the issue, so here's the way to fix it yourselves?

I guess it's a lot better than not addressing it at all.

And now you can change your skin color.....Which I like because customization is one of UO's most important virtues.

Fixed a vendor exploit involving skill/stat changes.
Heh.....Would it have, I wonder, helped my alt gain his last 5 points of Intelligence finally, which have been stuck for quite a bit? How come I never find out about this stuff until after it's fixed!

I'm glad they're finally fixing the volume of the Reveal spell, at least in the Enhanced Client. When a monster would cast that spell, you'd just about fall off your chair from the blast of sound coming at you. I never noticed it as a problem in the Legacy Client.

Oh, they meant volume as in sound?

I was thinking as in measurement.

Makes a lot more sense now.

Yep. This was exactly the exploit that Pwny (and a couple others) tried to warn you guys about (remember there were posts describing exploiters with 170 archery skill and 150/150/150 str/int/dex?), but so many pple just brushed Pwny off, saying he was just a loser crybaby whining becaused he got pwned on the field.

With 170 archery vs 120 archery, and with 150/150/150 str/int/dex, and combined with speedhacking, the exploiter would almost never be hit, would almost never miss, would never run out of mana, would have insane swing speeds and bandage speeds, and you'd never be able to outrun him to save your own life. If you encountered him in Fel, it's like encountering a REAL monster/demon/god that you would have absolutely no chance against.

Wish they would have written into the publish that anyone with impossibly high skills/stats would have them cut to 25% and need to be worked back up. There should be a penalty imposed for taking advantage of an exploit.

I'll be blunt.

Accusing people of cheating in one form or another is now a PvP skill, and most PvPers have it at at least 115, maybe even 120. I, who am slower than beans on most days, have been accused, fairly often, of speed-hacking.

So, I think you can forgive people for a little skepticism. For every accusation of cheating that's true, there's also at least 1 to go with it that is blatantly untrue.

No frigging wonder I've been hit 5+ times very, very many times in a row on my parrymage with 70% DCI..

EDIT: The vendor exploit also allowed some easy magery training + magery skill bumping..

Well since its fixed...

I gather someone figured it out by taking a piece of jewelry off of their vendor and placing it directly on their paperdoll. By doing so would make it spring back on your vendor and lower your skill. Lower it enough, you get to the point where you get easy skill gains, log out and back in...skill returns to normal. But you got skills gains based off of your shown skill not real skill.

Tamers goto 120 taming sheep, skillup even if you fail.
Smiths goto 120 making daggers, gain skill even on fails.
Mages goto 120 casting a level 4 spell over and over never expending mana and fizeling the whole time.

This is of coarse lowering your shown skill to well below 0 negative 120.

Getting above skills was the same way but you needed an item to give you negative instead of a positive so -10 to a skill would bump it up +10 same with stats.

I am suprized they didnt fix they way to remove negative stats from faction death yet. Nope, not telling, my lips are sealed.

Way more so than just that my friend.

You could achieve ZERO skill, stat level, if you knew of the exploit workings, meaning gains zoom zoom zoomed!

It's funny for 2 reasons. For years I've wondered how in the world they figure this stuff out. I'd love to give an example, but we can't. I could see if it was an accident, but its like the only thing these people do in the entire world is sit around trying to cheat in a game where 100m gold is worth 39.00. Some of them would have a whole lot of money if they did ANYTHING else.

The second reason its funny is they'd get away with it if they just shut up. The 170 archery guy with all those stats would be unkillable pretty much forever. He'd go down in uo history as the most dangerous archer ever. Now, he's probably going to quit because ALL those people he cheated will be waiting to see how he plays in a fair fight.

These people crack me up. Somewhere there's someone waiting for uo to come back on to try something with a rock, a cow & a glass of eggnog.

The only ideas those things suggest to me are along the lines of deco. I think that's just how my UO brain works. :p

Sure you can have 170 archery...but how does that help finish off the tail of the giant snake you have in the garden on your roof?

Wow, they actually fixed ONE bug from the list of 100 Enhanced Client Issues. I'm impressed.
That list reminds me of all the bug reports I've submitted since EC first went beta... bug reports that seem to have headed nowhere...

...perhaps if we look carefully, we might find them all in the Cavern of the Discarded
Haha, that's a good one. After all, things that are being dumped often turn up in that Cavern.

Well, if EA keeps up that speed, we might have an almost bug-free Enhanced Client somewhen in the year 2047.

DCI is capped at 45% anyway. Unless you're casting divine, I'm not exactly sure why you're carrying the additional 25%.

HLD is the reason PVPrs want 70% DCI. HLD hits your DCI for -25%. Even though effective DCI is capped at 45%, HLD subtracts from your actual DCI total, thus 70% totally negates the effect of HLD.

There's a thread about it on page 2.

I find it interesting that many of the people that knew about the exploit are usually the ones complaining about PVP and balance. Hmm maybe if people stop trying to cheat and just played the game there would be no need for balance.

Um.... I've used the Hunters headdress for years.... so your telling me that I was exploiting just because um... I wear the headress?

I don't think so.... My skill is as it always has been..... GM with it off 120 with it on... And so it will remain.

Actually the exploit they mentioned with vendors let people gain any skill from 0 - 120 in about three hours including taming....

There are no bugs that give people 170 archery...

Also the exploit didn't do anything like give people crazy stats it just let people gain at a insane rate...

Since it's already out there and fixed.

actually fyi this exploit lowered your stats and skills so you could train them easier.. it did not bump them over the max..

this exploit has been around for a super long time and was even talked about by the devs, but i guess they fired the ones that were in charge of fixing it and it went under the rug..

it was a side effect of the crystal ring lowering your skills 20 in stat loss faction bug fix..

in a way its good they fixed it, in another way, they really need to get a decent way to change your stats.. specially on a maxxed out char..

this whole gotta lower a skill to raise a skill to change your str sucks.

it kinda was a harmless trick, i can see MANY more exploits that CHANGE the game in a negative way..

maybe now they are fixing exploits they can make trapped boxes insta kill you like they should.

Actually, as usual your wrong....

Try using an evil orc helm that had +10 str -10 dex/int stats on it...place it on the vendor and put it back on your paper doll...guess what happens?? Yep, your stats do the opposite, they go up and down!!!

Now try with an item that drops all stats by -10...yep you guess it. All stats go up by 10 every time! you'll get 150 in each stat real quick.

There's more **** in this game than you so called "professional board warriors" can fathom. Stick to the board smack talk....its all your good at.

As I understand it, any skill that is at its cap (or perhaps even above 100), has a 1 in 20 chance to raise the stats associates with it.
So I find I can adjust my stats on any of my characters by just using the skills I have at cap, which happens during normal play.

I think that's accurate, just fighting a balron (or doing anything ingame that would give skillgains) raises stats really quick, doesn't matter if the skill is locked. In my case my archery/tactics/anat were all locked but I still got a lot of stat gains. Before I knew of this method I would use 20 skillpoints to train a skill like focus, then at 20 focus lower it and raise another skill like armslore until 20, then setting it to lower and raising focus again, both work well.

Make sure your character is at their total cap in skills: 705 or 710 or 715 or 720.

Go to uoassist and turn every arrow up. It can be done without uoassist, it's just nice doing it all with one click.

Turn up whichever stat bar you want to raise, and lower another one if you are at your stat cap.

Go fight monsters, melee or casting. Any dungeon will do. You stat gains will fly. Especially if you're using melee skills.

For those of you that come back with "it doesn't work", I've done this at least 20 times in the last 6 months (including a newbie character yesterday), so I know it works.
