Problem with the shimmering effusion

Hi guys,
Everytime the shimmering does his fire AoE spell, I get the aggro because I'm too close healing my pet and I can't figure how to get rid of it, I'm dead by the time I try the second invisibility (120 hitpoints and 70 resists).
I'm bard/tamer, is there any way to prevent from getting aggroed by the mob, or should I fight the boss with my bard/mage and cast EVs?

is your char high karma?
these things are neutral so they will attack neg karma chars on sight.

never take a necro to do one..

Some creatures in game insta-aggro neg karma people when they run into them, and Effusion is thought to be one of them. So if a Necro, for example, ran off screen cause he got fireballed for 50, then comes back and starts to resume attacks, the Effusion should sense the Necro once the Necro crosses a range barrier and lock on to the Necro due to his/her karma.

As for playing a tamer while doing Effusion, you either use magery for heals, or you die like you are, pretty simple there. I also think a group of Cus work nice but I can't remember last time I did it with GDrags.

Bard is def way to go, but difficult. Provo is the secret.

yea veting a draggie is too much risk for a shimmer. hanging back and casting g.heal works good, if you wanna provo spawn onto shimmer then do it in the fel one i believe

Ok, now I get what you mean with negative karma. I don't have that problem, the boss goes for my pet as intented, it's after his AoE that it goes after me.

Well, I don't have any other choice than doing it with a sampire then, right?

You cast G heal... someone already said that, and as for the AoE attack, all creatures switch targets when there AoE hits something that isn't their primary target, warriors do it too, use Whirl Wind with a hit spell weapon, you'll shift targets everytime it goes off on something you're not currently targeting. It's how the game works...

Bard/tamer is fine. I find shimmering easiest to do with tamers. But use a discord bard. Spellweaving tamer with a level 6 focus is very good as well.

Leave pet in the corridor with the ankh, then go into the room discord the boss. It normally takes several attempts, coz the barding difficulty is 160. Also discorded peerless only lose 5% as opposed to 28% for legendary discorders. But every little bit helps stack things in my favor.

Once discorded, bring pet in, tell it to follow the peerless (optional, I just hate it when the pet lose track of it's target and come running back with me, luring the peerless towards me), then all kill.

To heal, just stand as far as possible (I keep 8 tiles away, more time to react if the mobs decide to switch targets) and use In Vas Mani to heal. Need meditation and MR equipment to keep up with mana expenditure though.

Discord minions when they appear and set your pet against them first. These lose 28% stats when discorded and are easy kills. But if you let the peerless spawn too many minions, they can tear your pet apart.

If you are careful to recast Gift of Life, you can swap vet out and get spellweaving in its place. The danger is if you get hit by a lag spike and pet dies without gift of life active.

Impt things to remember:
1) if your pet dies and you can't rez it, you'd most likely have to leave
2) if you use login/logout to try to save pet, and if pet dies before it gets autostabled, the GoL rez gump will not appear (it actually appears, but you are logged out)

Tip - always cast GoL on yourself, then on pet. When yours time out, you will know that the pet's GoL has timed out as well. Then recast on both. Cast Gift of renewal to give yourself a bit of breathing room if needed.

WoD the peerless when it gets reduced to 35% hp. This really speeds up the process a lot.

Oh, use either a Cu or GD. Rune beetles are a bit difficult to keep alive.

Welcome :D

I tend to miss out bits sometimes until I reread my post :p

When I say leave pet in that corridor, I left out that I will invis myself first and wait for shimmering to target my pet before going into the big room.

Basically I am using my pet as a lure to keep the shimmering still so that I can discord in peace. If you are using a Cu, you can also use a 1 slot pet or summoned pixie/imp to do the same thing. Note that the mobs' AOE attacks can reach through the walls and damage your pet if it's too near the walls.

Can that boss be done with a mage, or does he auto-dispell EVs like dragons do?

When I was testing with different templates, I wasn't able to do it with my mage. The boss with his minions dispel or kill the EVs too quickly.

My sammy had a hard time too, esp when he spawns multiple minions.

Arctic ogre lord wasn't good either. Hard to keep alive even when coupled with an ev.

Best (and easiest) tactic I have found so far is still with a tamer using spells to heal pets. Allows more room for errors. Ability to wear a luck suit from the beginning to end is a bonus. Saves the hassle of switching suits just before the kill shot.

Now, that's only my experience. Perhaps others have had better results with other templates.

I couldn't do it with my bard/tamer and a GD.

The dragon won't attack the adds even if told to stop and then to attack them, he always gets back on the boss and adds stay up for way too long.
I can go around that by exiting the room and coming back, but even when fighting the boss alone, I can't keep up mana wise, with 100 magery, 100 med, 40% LMC and 15 mana regen.

Maybe is the dragon the problem, dunno, my wife tamed a pretty much maxed out one, we'll see when it's trained, while mine is already really good.

I don't have spellweaving at all though, maybe I should look into it, not sure anymore.

Spell weaving will only help to self rez and when it's at low HP. Maybe healing if you have a high focus, but I doubt it'll do anything to solve your problem. Did you try to lure the summons off and kill them solo? It would take longer but...

Yes, when adds spawn I have not problem luring and killing them off, the main problem is the tanking, the dragon needs way too much healing (with close to max resists at that).

So by the time I kill the adds or retreat to heal the dragon, the boss heals himself, I couldn't drop him below 40%
He landed an explo on me for 85 today, through my 70 fire resists, that thing hits like a truck I wonder if it can be soloed anymore.

You are doing fine if you can get it down to 40%.. It takes a bit of patience.

He hits me for about the same insane damage if he switches target on to me. Actually, I tend to die if he targets me, coz my suit has low resists.

When faced with multiple mobs. Pets will always try to attack the mob that did the most damage to it. If the situation gets dicey (as soon as you realize you can't heal pet fast enough), lure minions away from shimmering and all follow the minion to prevent pet from running back to shimmering. Got to always deal with the minion first.

Discorded, the minion will go down quickly.

If required, run away and invis pet to break aggro, then vet or gheal. Active med to full mana before re-engaging shimmering.

If you tag team with your wife's tamer, this works even better. No need to run away. Both spam all kill on the minion, one of the pets will almost always remain aggro'ed on the minion.

Then 1 char can safely swap vet for SW, while the other keeps vet in case you lag out and didn't manage to gift of life your pet.

Gift of renewal will buy you extra breathing room so that you don't have to spam in vas mani and can regen mana.

Getting a high level focus (5 or 6) is very important if you use SW.
