Siege Community Center?

Along the lines of what was discussed when the house teleporters were created, I have been thinking of creating a Siege Community Center.

Basically a public home near a moongate where various player run towns/areas can set up a house teleporter from the community center to their home area. I would set one up for Wispwood, I'm sure GIL would as well, and I'm hoping places like Iantown, Stonehaven, Safe Haven, and Bartertown would also place a house teleporter. Others would obviously be welcome as well. I'd also set one up for NEW.

The purpose of course would be to allow the people of Siege easy travel to and from the player run areas of Siege.

The house teleporters would belong to you (whoever donates them) and you can take them back at any time, you would just have to trust the owner of the community center to safely keep your other 1/2 of the house teleporter.

The remainder of the home could be used for other Siege community purposes, which I haven't thought of yet. We already have a museum, maybe information about guilds or history? Any thoughts?

Anyways, if other guilds/alliances are interested in this, particularly TnT, you Bartertown Thieves, Iantown, and TDO, let me know and I will move forward with this. If not then I won't.

Sounds like a great idea.

I have 2 accts. awaiting their teleporters, one should get a pair in another month and the other young one in 4 mos., I think.

My homes are now in Iantown or nearly in it. I also plan yet, to bring over one more acct. of mine to place a home here, to place a public forge in Iantown area.

Sounds like a great idea, possibly a rune library as well?

Do we have a good spot avail? I know that small vendor shop at Brit gate has been open for a bit. Just not sure how many tiles we have avail or will have, and what size is needed. Im thinking a bit bigger, but be nice to have a bigger shack.

I dont think we need a rune library. Since Patty has a pretty good one already.

There are a few good rune libraries on the shard already...

Let's get it together guys this would be awesome. What about that spot near the Skara gate and community center? Who owns that now?

I also have that house in Makato which is near the moongate, bank, and stables. I would be glad to offer it for this purpose. It is already linked to Gilfane.

And we have a rune library we could put there already.

I think the Skara spot would be a great spot (I just like the old cities better than the new ones), Yew would even be nicer just because of the normal traffic. Regardless, if a spot came available I would try and grab it if we go through with this. I believe that Skara home is owned by Mr. Stinkpants (or whatever his Stratics name is). I talked with Vortex about the Makato home, and it is in a very good location if I remember correctly.

Just waiting to see if we have more participation other than just CWS/GIL and maybe Iantown. I would want full community support before moving forward with this.

sounds good to me. anything that brings more backpacks to bartertown is a check in my book. i think we will probably have a hard time coming up with a teleporter though, as i dont think any of us have that kind of age on our accounts, and i dont thnink we could afford to buy one (too bad theyre blessed...). i know chad has a set, but he is away from the game for now.

suggestions on other things in the center, how about a noob help depot? maybe we could set up some public spinning wheels/forges, public dye tubs, and vendors with cheap armor suits so that if we happen to stumble upon a noob, we can take them there and get them set up with everything they need to get started here on siege (and have a place to go to process their resources while they are training). put a donation box out so that people can contribute too. I know that NEW does alot of this, but this could be for the times when you find a nub running around there are no NEW Ems online.

I usually try to hook a noob up, but my supplies get low too. maybe we could use the gold made from buying the suits of the vendors to turn around and buy more leather/ cloth from the noobs we helped.

I dunno if this all just sounds redundant, but i think the community center should also help further the community's growth.

No house at brit moongate, but I don't *think* you can place there.

Totally agreed that the community center should further the community's growth, just looking for both support and what types of things can it do to support the communities growth? I do like your ideas about public crafting stuff and the newbie item drop box.

Official player towns are supposed to get permanent moongate/teleporters that are linked to all other player towns. I filled out the form and submitted the application over a month ago. Still waiting for it to go through.

Chad do you have more info on this? It will be some years before I receive a 12th year gift.

It was mentioned a while back at a meet and greet with Quantum. There was supposed to be a check list of things that were needed to become a recognized player run town. If those were met, they were gonna link us. But I have yet to see the list make the herald.

Yes, it's like this on other shards. I think Chessy has had quite a bit of these going up and there was a meeting with Mesanna. Origin is just starting the process.

A couple of threads I found if anyone wants to read more to prepare:

There may be some posts on individual EM websites as well if any of this helps any. It sounded like it was on hold until the new EM takes over but, I would think, it would be a top priority once he/she is up and running.

What qualifies as a "Player Town"? I will look at those links tomorrow.

Kelmo, from what I've read and what I saw at the meeting on Catskills, a lot of times, the players and the shard help determine what is a town on their shard. In most case, again, just from what I've read or seen, it's usually done in RP fashion with a petition to the crown, tour, acceptance, etc.

My guess (total speculation here) is that it's a series of however many buildings in a grouped area that are run by a group of players with a common purpose? Some of those links should give you ideas of what other shards are doing.

Let me say, no, I don't think that just because another shard does it some way, that Siege will. I'm just hoping to give you guys here some ideas of what has gone on with the other shards to maybe start everyone thinking about how it will work on Siege. I think the final decision is up to the EM and the players.

Would be nice. Just too bad so many people have houses that are either bugged (and dont fall), or are not active and still pay. Get rid of the dirt plots. Supply decor and make em all pub. And a town has no issue reaching status.

I remember it being said that you must swear loyalty to Lady Dawn to be a player town. Not that you must be good, but that you wont challenge her.

i believe the criteria chad had to follow is posted on EM quantums website. obviously it wont do any good to submit it to him now, but when i spoke to mesanna the other night about barter towns status, she said to just email her directly whatever correspondence we had had with Quantum. maybe while we are in limbo the towns should just follow the criterion on quantums website, but submit it to mesanna

Aye, it is relatively new and on going per the shards.

When I went to my alliance meeting on Chesapeake in Dec. I was kinda blown away to find all this out, as they the players were gathering to determine designs for their player run towns, that they chose to represent the 3 player run towns {alliances] which would become permitted to get the special treatment, ie banners/small town gate entryways, via existing UO art etc. and that EA/Ems whomever all were involved were doing this for the shards.
Course my comment at the meeting there was : "What about SIEGE ?"

UO Forums shard forums, as well as Ches. Baja other shard forums on Stratics, for the few shards whom are done or a bit further ahead on this, may also show ya some of the voting on player run towns' town banner designs too as well as the links provided above. :)

From what I gathered at that meeting last month, in due time, once every shard had completed these first inital processes, later on down the line these 3 player run towns per shard may also get to select their player run towns *alignment* to certain UO figureheads etc. Then any further ongoing story lines in game, may then bring invasions via EA dev. team or EMs created invasions etc., that may invade these player run towns as per their alignments *ie possibly in opposition* to them. Whether that actually happens or not did not matter it just sounded cool EM or EA created and all I could do was frustratingly outburst saying... WHAT ABOUT SIEGE ! ? :(

It was a lot of info to absorb all at once kinda blew me away at my last alliance meeting on Ches. thus all I could manage to comment/say in game at that meeting was... " What about Siege ? " Luckily my friends there just emoted smiles and said I was hopelessly a 'Chesa^Sieger. :)

I wasn't aware how far along this scheme had gotten, in fact I didn't know they were extending it to other shards. Chessie is ahead of other shards because the incentive/idea came from one of their players (and Stratics staff member!) Lord Gareth

Another thing we could do on our own, is simply to have each player run home that actually belongs to a certain player run town, is to match all our house signs.

When I went up to Guardians Gate player run town on Chesapeake a couple days ago, their homes all matched in house signs. Course they have a LOT of them up there that all belong to Guardians Gate.

But with the new player run *gate* made of hedges and banner they got, the banner for the player run town was red and black, and every member home that actually belonged to Guardians Gate town, had their homes set to public, sporting the same house sign of red and black.

Quite impressive when ya see their new player run town *banner* looking much like the vet reward banners yet when ya mouse over it, it will read the player run town's name. The new town banner, must be EM created* cuz we can not do that ie make a banner *read* a player run town's name, and then with the homes all matching and distinctly showing a solid mass of red and black, on every home's home sign, to match their banner, that they are now sporting as ya enter their player run city is quite a sight.

Our own Barter town could maybe pick red/black or some house sign that says *thieves* all to match..or some player run towns here could make their house signs all to match *faction colors* ie. some player run towns or guilds homes if for example are together all are ie Stonehaven, Minax black and red house signs all to match saying 'Stonehaven' etc.

Iantown with the Enchanted Forest all them pixies and purple campion flowers all over the natural UO landscape, in that area, maybe we could all go with the purple green gold house signs etc.

Shire has always had golden color, ie Golden Unicorn, as one of their guild's & town colors, that too can be implemented in some way, on all their house signs. etc.

Changing our house signs, to all match a said player run town, within a player run town, if we are part of any player run town or their neighbors even, can be something quite simple which we could do on our own, for Siege and our own player run towns, without any EM assistance.

Matchin our house signs, be we a member of a player run town or just their neighbors, and if our own accts.' homes are all over the place on this shard, we try could move them closer together, if possible, into one area, to focus on whichever player run town we are a part of, or neighbors with, on one/all of our homes here & to enable each player run town here, to appear to *grow*.

Oh thank you Ian. :) I see that they mention matching house signs. COOL !

*goes off to match all her Iantown homes house signs and to MOVE THEM all, in closer to the rest of Iantown*

LOL gotta start somewhere
