I've been trying to adjust my stats but for some reason they won't change. I'm already at my stat cap limit, but I have one set to go up and one set to go down. I'm at my skill cap, but I have a skill set to go up, and despite using it successfully over and over, my stats won't adjust. I've even set a skill to go up and one to go down, and even when the skills change, the stats don't. What am I missing here?

Thanks!

Having recently hit a bug where my stats actually reversed upon my character's death, in the end, I had to restore my stats myself.

In my case, I wanted to reverse DEX and STR back to their original values. As I was looking to gain STR from DEX, I did the following:

Placed one of my skills on a soulstone.
Raised the arrow for Anatomy and gained it up to 20.
I then set the arrow down on Anatomy and took my skill back off the soulstone, then immediately placed it back on.
Raised Anatomy arrow and gained back to 20 again...

Rinse and repeat...

Working from 0-20 skill gains seemed to yield the best and quickest stat gains. It didn't take me long to get the stats values back where I wanted them.

Using the table Petra Fyde posted, is most certainly the easiest way to see which skills are best used for which stats you want to work on.

The soulstone method, I think, frees up space quickly and easily for working on the new "skill", whilst also dropping you some what before the skills cap.

I just alternated between focus and meditation (combined they raise all 3 stats) while training necromancy so... :/

I believe you have to have the skill you're using to adjust the stats turned up and not locked in order for the stats to change.

I'm sorry. How do people have 1000+ posts in here and not understand the basic, every-day mechanics of how UO works? I'm not saying everyone needs to be a stratics *****, but perhaps we're taking it for granted that new/returning players know *what* to do? If folks who have been here for years still don't understand the basics, that's a problem.

If someone who has been here for years still doesn't understand basic stat mechanics, then we seriously need to identify those issues. And it has nothing to do with play style. It has to do with simple logic. If it doesn't make sense to a new character to train in warrior-craft or mining or lumber jacking, then why would they even consider it a skill worth pursuing? I'm sure it's slightly less ambiguous for intelligence stat...but why the hell don't bard or tamer skills depend on dexterity?

It's no wonder people complain that UO is 'hard' to get started with! Fans/sycophants aside, I think we need a serious revamp of what it means to be a *new* character in UO, beyond the petty little PvP vs. PvM or crafter vs. warrior or sandbox vs. eye candy rants.

I am only throwing out a possible answer to your question, but perhaps they are from another game? Stratics is not UO exclusive and we can post on any of the number of game forums using the same account. Just a thought...

Yes... Stratics caters to all major MMOs, and you *CAN* post on all the forums with the same account. Also, people leave UO and come back... maybe you missed all the patch notes that changed how stat's raise, because, there was a change to them a couple years ago, but you'd know that, you're all caught up on game mechanics aren't you? *rolls eyes*

Yes, I used to play the game heavily but quit about 2 years ago. I was/am actually quite knowledgeable about game mechanics, at least in regards to PvP and character construction (PvM isn't really my thing). Now my son wants to play and I'm making a limited comeback. I never used to have problems adjusting my stats so I thought maybe there were some changes to stat gains over the last couple of years. I took the trouble of outlining my exact process precisely so someone could point out some error, if any.

I'll try soulstoning a skill off and cycling focus/med/spirit speak. Thanks for all replies :)

If you have a soulstone available you can work skill to 25 then remove it and keep working it without having to ping pong skills. they've also taken the timer off soulstones so they can be used multiple times in one day.

I just noticed that about soulstones... very cool!

Love the new faction items, also. Hope it has invigorated PvP.

Greetings WillX/Scourge!

If you or your son extends your "limited comeback" to Siege, I'm happy to help.

I'm still keeping your spot in Luna warm.
