I have installed and uninstalled UO i don't know how many times now.
I played for a while and then i had to wipe my computer and now i am trying to play again and i installed UO 2d client and patched, and now it will go "Loading Uo..." and then an error pops up saying that it has crashed... Help anyone???
I'm getting really frustrated and i want to play UO haha

What OS are you using? Sounds like Vista or Win7... if so make sure you are running as admin.

sounds like you have a common problem. if you've wiped your computer, then you may have no sound drivers. if have no, or bad sound drivers. UO will crash when trying to launch the login screen.

This is Zeba's Mom.. I just Updated her sound drivers today. And she is running Win XP. If she doesn't patch it will load the log in screen but once patched she get the error. The PC is older but I know before I got my new one I was running WoW on that PC for about a year so I am not understanding why it won't run UO2d. I was getting ready to upgrade both accounts to SA also...not gonna be any fun without my running buddy! Any help is appreciated.

This computer is really old and i ran UO before, so i have no clue why it isn't working now, i really hope i don't have to get a new computer to be able to do anything. Hmmm

So you have gone into the device manager and made sure any and all drivers are loaded properly? Turn antivirus off for a bit and turn off the windows firewall or any other firewall you may be running....oh and make sure all windows updates are done. And then try.
And it could be that after you do all that other stuff, you may have to uninstall and reinstall UO one more time and repatch. After you uninstall, make sure it get's rid of the EA stuff in your program files (delete any folders that are there but make sure you do the unistall BEFORE deleting any folders) and then try again to install it.

Normally crashing upon loading is a Sound Driver issue (Notice normally) Good Luck

Aye ...I just assumed that since she updated that driver, maybe she could try the other things I mentioned before totally trashing the machine. Might even just go get a new sound card for it.

The PC is about 8 years old....and everything is integrated. it may just be cheaper and better to get a new rig. Is there a way to turn sound off in one of the UO files before loading the game? What if I copied the files like the ones for macros and such from my pc to hers? would that work if I chose sound off in the uo cgf or something file...forgot what it is called at the moment.
thanks for all the help by the way!

You can turn the sound off in the uo.cfg file

Are you positive you got the correct drivers for that sound card? You can also disable the onboard sound in the bios and go purchase a sound card. Is it a proprietary computer (Dell, HP) or is it pieced together?

yeah.

i threw the cd in for the drivers for my motherboard & installed the sound drivers :)

theres a program installed with uo called easyinfo, run that and it'll show the whole specs of your machine. there's also links for get drivers & get updated though i'm unsure how well they work. best bet is to just goto the manufactures website and do their automatic updates.

Just go to www.gateway.com, choose where you live and then go to support up at the top of the page. It will ask for a serial number. Put that in and see what it pulls up for ya. Good luck and Happy New Year to everyone! I'm going to bed lol
EDIT: I forgot to tell you to click on "driver downloads" after you click on support. Sorry about that. It will also find your serial number for you if you don't know where to look. It's usually on a sticker somewhere on the machine.

Just a thought... if you have already updated the sound and video drivers - then I would suggest downloading/reloading Direct X (DX9). At this point it could not hurt. Also if it is an NVIDIA video card get the unified drivers off their website as they seem to be more stable and/or compatible (with games) then the card specific OEM-ified ones from Gateway's site.

You could also check the log in event viewer for the application to see if there's any additional information.
