Just a quick thread and poll to get discussions going... What do you hope to happen in UO in the year 2010? This could be interesting... be realistic but creativity never hurts either.
MORE marketing? I Didn't know UO had any marketing.we don`t need more marketing
Yep... Reason why UO's subsciption base has went so low isnt cause lack of marketing, but cause this game isnt that good at the moment. This game has great potential to it, and it WAS a great game back in the days.Yet dozens of F2P games with almost zero marketing manage to get a huge playerbase.
Word of mouth is a wonderful thing, especially with the interweb. I agree UO has close to none, but as I search the web for games that might spark an interest, UO has come up on serveral mmo lists. Its out there.
There, the bolded part says what the difference is! Free to Play!Yet dozens of F2P games with almost zero marketing manage to get a huge playerbase.

They cut half the Dev Team, you really think they're gonna bother with marketing? Besides... how would that work? What current gen gamer is going to see the graphics of UO and go "OH MY GOD! 20th CENTURY ARTWORK!? YES! I"M BUYING THIS GAME!" Word of mouth is the best you can ask for. The only people who will join UO are people who are looking for this type of game, you're not going to be looking in the back end of a computer gaming isle at Walmart for it, searching the Interwebz is the best bet. There, the bolded part says what the difference is! If you want to get any real numbers of new players into a game that has:
1) A price for the game itself
2) A monthly charge to play the game
You need to actually promote it! A shelf presence and actual box would help, but any marketing attempt at all would be better than what we have.
Just my 2c
Yeah I actually had that option on the poll and removed it last second... I was trying NOT to start another doom and gloom thread about the future for UO. New year's resolutions need to be positiveI really do think that you should have had the option "UO still around this time next year". That is my greatest hope, and far from certain.
Boxes and town halls. What do you hope to happen in UO in the year 2010?
